The biggest stars in TV and film gathered in Beverly Hills, Calif. in the hopes of kicking off the 2020 awards season with a highly coveted Golden Globe award as notoriously controversial host Ricky Gervais wasted no time laying into the Hollywood elite vying for a big win.
Stars from films like “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” “Rocketman” and “The Irishman” as well as shows like "Big Little Lies," "The Crown" and "Barry" were in attendance but the comedian and host was undeterred by the many famous faces staring back at him.
He called out the many stars in the room for their relationship

Bravo!! Ricky may have just committed career suicide but, I will see if there is anything he has done that I can watch. It would be nice if a few more normal celebrities would stand up and make statements about the idiots they work with.

This is good: “ Gervais concluded his scathing monologue by warning the celebrities not to make any political or "woke" statements when accepting their awards. ‘You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything,’ he declared. ‘You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg." Really good!

Won't watch these shows exactly because of their preachy virtue signaling. Ricky may have burned many bridges, but he's raised up a notch in my book for his brutal, brilliant boldness!

Finally, some British commonsense. Good for you Ricky. They need a good bollocking and have needed one for a long time.

Didn’t watch. I think this guy is secure. Doesn’t he write and produce? Without going into details, Hollywood is Sodom and Gomorrah. The funniest thing I saw was the dear Iran letter; “Iran please don’t attack Hollywood, home of our brightest military minds!”

For the first time in my life I actually regret not watching an award show. I heard a bit on the radio this morning and it too a while to grasp what actually happened. I can't think of a better way to announce his retirement. And of course the idiots still couldnt help themselves and proceeded to make his point by making fools of themselves.

He was talking to those in Hollywood who fly all around the world in their private jets to protest global warming and then try to shame us for driving to work. He was talking to those high school dropouts who spend their money on drugs and alcohol and sex and make movies making rape and violence entertainment and then wonder why the younger generation do drugs and have babies out of wedlock. I could go on but it would take too much time and space. You get my drift.

Like the King's "Fool" he merely told TRUTH to power and did it in a comedic way. It's long overdue for these "elite" prigs to hear what we the people actually think of them and their haughty opinions of the world and politics. Bravo, Mr. Gervais!

Didn't watch...never will...never have! But, this was Glorious! But the nincompoops in LA that act for a living and are obviously our betters...we being rubes and bitter clingers...will forget it all and move on with their perverted self centered lives! And I don't care!

I did not (will not ever) watch this entertainment show. But I DID find his opening monologue online this morning. It was RICH! Listening isn't enough. You must see the faces of the elite as he delivers his barbs.

I loved it when he said he wasn't going to do an "In Memoriam" because there wasn't a diverse enough group and it would just be paying respect to a bunch of dead white people and he "wasn't going to be a part of that." He poked them right in their collective Cyclops EYE!

I know nothing about these people in Hollywood nor do I care. It was good to read the opening by Ricky Gervais giving a hit at the elites (they think the are) and their dumb lifestyles.

Well, apparently no one listened to him, cause I see many reports in the news about the winners lecturing us all on one thing or another.

Did anyone catch the one-two?
Epstein didn't kill himself but, because he's dead,
...most of you had to find your own way here.

Boy oh boy oh boy, does the truth ever hurt. None of these jokes were distortions or exaggerations. If anything they were too kind. Hilarious. Delicious. What fun to watch the curdled-milk expressions on the Hollywood dweebs. Bravo, Ricky. Somebody has the stones to tell it like it truly is.

See Ricky's 2009 movie, "The Invention of Lying". It's a very thoughtful and philosophical comedy that points out how pervasive fibs and lies are in our social interactions. While it clearly has an anti-religious bent, it also points out how faith in the unprovable provides hope. I think this guy has a lot of depth, although he can come across as just mean sometimes.

I haven't enjoyed watching Tom Hanks this much since he played a cross-dresser. He's still pretending to be what he is not and he's trying to be a man of substance. Its much less believable, but he's still good at making faces. LOL.

This was truly epic. Courageous. Brutally accurate. Unflinching. Wow. Hollywood may never recover from this absolute roast. Never in my life have I seen such an incredible truth-telling in front of the entertainment elite tribe.
Bravo, Ricky Gervais!

Is it possible, that Ricky just trolled Conservatives? Lets face it, his views are not exactly Jon Voight-esqe on the political spectrum. Considering the slow decline in viewership of the Golden Globes, and the growing disdain for the entertainment wing of the liberal elite. Maybe Ricky was just trying to get some of those regular Americans eyeballs back in the self congratulating, smug, smarmy, west coast pool. I will admit, I got the early news that he had taken Hollywood to task, and immediately flipped the channel over to see if any more arrows were going to be slung. Thereby increasing the viewership of the Globes and subjecting myself to about an hour of hypocrites patting themselves on the back and talking about how cultured and worldly they are. Mission accomplished Ricky.

Read his comments on Fox News. Either he, or his writers, are very good and right on target. "Some people become addicted to attention, unaware that always being in the spotlight blinds you." - Rick Warren

I watched and one of the reasons was I knew Gervais would lob one or two shots at that town and that culture. He surprised me by carpet bombing the place. When they groaned he doubled down, like the reaction to Apple and slave labor. Oh right you just hire other companies to do it, was the follow up. He didn't give them a pass for the entire absurdity of the 'awards,' or the coziness with creeps like Epstein and Weinstein. The only problem is everyone in that room would do anything for more fame and money. Well, maybe a few who have been on top for years could laugh with Ricky, but the rest don't care. Satan himself would get a huge round of applause from the pious morons. They would think, NOW I can get that big break I've been clawing for.
Tom Hanks confirmed he is a young Joe Biden. The same arrogant, loud, listen to me energy. With a smug, we are so rich and we can pretend to be as honorable, brave and smart as the real people we pretend to be. All because we know how to fake emotion and hold a pose for the camera.
