The gaudy red ring that helped initially identify the corpse of Iran’s Major Gen. Qassem Soleimani is no Hope Diamond, according to local jewelers.
Dealers believe the distinctive ring worn by Soleimani is either a red carnelian stone — believed by some Middle East Muslims as able to bestow “blessings”– or possibly an inexpensive ruby that would cost a few hundred bucks.
“From the photo, it looks like it’s a carnelian stone — it’s not a ruby; it comes from Africa,” said Maykel Rieth, a professional cutter for R Gems Inc on West 48th Street.
“The ring is made out of silver,” he continued.

I think the ring and the finger it was on is the only thing that remained of this clown. One wonders what they're carrying around in Iran. Probably an empty box.

Who cares? Frauds, liars, fake religious org. So?
”Who cares?” is an inappropriate response. If a reader doesn’t care, they should just move on. Staff

On the carnelian - and this really makes sense re Soleimani and the other Iranian officers who are said to wear similar rings:
Like the unexpected fire of a sunset, or the first flash of autumn brilliance, Carnelian captivates. Its bold energy brings a rush of warmth and joy that lingers, stimulating and empowering. Known as a stone of motivation and endurance, leadership and courage, Carnelians have protected and inspired throughout history.
A glassy, translucent stone, Carnelian is an orange-colored variety of Chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz family. Its color varies from pale pinkish-orange to a deep rusty brown, though it is most known for its brilliant orange and red-orange crystals. Its name comes from a Latin word meaning "flesh.”

Could be it is General Blood, Guts, and other Body Parts secret decoder ring that he used to communicate with Schiff for Brains as they organized a coordinated attack on PT and America. If I opened a Cracker Jack box and that was the prized I'd want my money back.

Ummmm . . . why is a jeweler discussing the value of this ring? It obviously meant something to the murderer; therefore, it's pointless to ask its value of a jeweler. And now it means something to us because it identifies the murderer after he was blown to smithereens--another worthless point to a jeweler.
Therefore, I think I see where #2 is coming from: Why go to the trouble of asking a jeweler to evaluate it in the first place?

I"m with the Original Poster, that's not the same ring. You don't even need to blow up the images to tell. Right off the bat, the bezel is completely different.

#1, once upon a time, I had an Army clerk filling out my Emergency Data Card, ask me where I wanted my "death remains" sent, in event of an unfortunate occurrence.
I asked, "Do you mean my body?"
Clerk responded, "Maybe."
So, "death remains" in the box.

My vote is the stone in Soiledman's ring is carnelian, a blood-red stone for a bloody man.

I thought the NY jewelers’ report was very interesting. I imagine NYC jewelers aren’t keen on Muslim killers, so this was their putdown of an obviously vain dead killer.
It was too dark a red to be a fine ruby and rather oversized.
I wonder when, if ever, we’ll hear that the rings were not the same...

So, is somebody trying to sell the idea that this terrorist is still alive? They'd love to pretend that he is still out there, running terrorist plots, wouldn't they/

It probably cost the lives of a hundred black African slaves to get that stone. Of course to a muslim that's the price to be paid for honoring themselves. God knows Qassem is "warming himself" around an eternal flame right now.

There is a link in the article to two pictures: one is a picture of Soleimani wearing a ring and the other is of a hand laying in grass with a similar ring on one finger. The rings are similar but it is easy to see with the naked eye that they are not the same. Either Soleimani habitually and uniquely wore different rings that had a similar design or the NYP should explain the definitive ID despite the difference in the pictures they show.

#21, if the red rings are so important in meaning and others in his cabal wear them, I’m guessing that Soleimani had more than one.

After reading at DM that rings might not be the same, that other officers had similar rings, I blew the photos up and used a magnifying glass. Soleimani’s ring was different - higher domed stone and more refined ring.
