Oh, Beto. Ronald Reagan once characterized people like Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke when he said, "It isn't so much that liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so many things that aren't so." Such was the case when the failed presidential candidate, Mr. "Hell-Yes-I'm-Going-To-Take-Your-Guns," cleaved to his "all guns bad" fantasies Sunday on Twitter right after the Texas church shooting. Showing that the cliché, "when seconds count, cops are only minutes away," is a cliché for a reason, the wanna-be mass murderer was dispatched within six seconds of getting off his first shot, preventing a mass bloodbath. Two men were killed by the shotgun-toting bad guy

As usual Beano O'Dork misses the point, completely. The perp had a long criminal history with convictions for assault and illegal weapons. He also had a history of mental illness and drug absuse. It was already illegal for him to even possess a firearm. He is exactly the type that people like O'Dork want released from prison and supplied with legalized drugs. Meanwhile, he wants more gun laws which he has no intention of even enforcing.

Bob, you mean to suggest that the power of the international circle slash sign to repel firearms is more powerful than an armed Jack Wilson? Let's play along Bob, since you believe that to be true, what makes your proposed ban on firearms more powerful than making it illegal to murder? I'll answer for you Bob, and lot's of people won't like my answer. You can eliminate firearms from being used in such a manner by total confiscation, house to house searches, searches on the street and the death penalty for rascals like me who can whip up a few household and hardware store items and have a gun. You see Bob, if you don't take your fantasy to a logical final conclusion all you do is make any public gathering a slaughter pen. Comprende Bob? So Bob, that trades the death toll of the violent insane evil outliers in society for the death toll of a totalitarian police state. Hundreds for a hundred thousand which one is bigger Bob? I'm going to invest in whoever it is that makes Velcro shoes.

According to the head of security at the church and the guy who shot the intruder, this shooter looked out of place and up to no good when entering the church. I would think that the police would have been notified immediately by security to come check this guy out. The police may or may not have arrived in time to stop the shooting, but maybe, just maybe no one would have been shot. Don't know. Maybe the whole situation happened so fast there just wasn't time.

The Democrats are deploring having armed security people in church. If they had not been there and taken action, there would have been many more dead. The only reason I can come up with for not allowing responsible people to have guns is that the Democrats want a high body count to promote their anti-gun push. This is sick and cruel! "Gun free zones" are only safe for mass murders.

The defender who ended the gunfight (and the evil perp's life) made a lethal twenty yard head shot on a moving target. That's marksmanship, especially under such dire circumstances, with everyone's life at stake. It's also nice to know that there were at least a half dozen more potential defenders inside that church. That's as it should be in every church and synagogue in this age of feral murderers who might pop up anywhere. The only good defense against an attacker with a gun is a Samaritan--preferably several Samaritans--with a gun. There is no adequate defense against a shooter other than an armed defender. Waiting for law enforcement to arrive and neutralize an active shooter can result in dozens of murder victims. As I said, there is a constituency that doesn't mind mass murder, so long as it's your family or mine that gets wiped out. Anything is permissible to these wannabe dictators if it brings about more gun control. A witness noticed the murderer before he opened fire, saying that he just didn't look right. Twenty years ago it wouldn't have occurred to me to carry a gun to church. The idea that a fellow parishioner would open fire on his friends and fellow worshipers was inconceivable. Not anymore. That spark of humanity is missing from certain people who lacked a good upbringing. "Beto" is a preening moral idiot as well as an intellectual idiot with an astonishingly low IQ. What's most disturbing is that he and many other anti Second Amendment Democrats so obviously are excited by, and enjoy, mass shootings, recognizing that each atrocity gives them another opportunity to go in front of a video camera spew their anti self defense prattle. The Mainstream Media, in the tank for the Democrats for my entire lifetime, won't gainsay anything Beto says. Many Americans have by now decided to go armed everywhere they go. As long as they know how to use their firearms properly, carrying is a wise decision, one that can save many lives.

Now, now, people. The murderer was using a shotgun. He would have been able to murder only two or three more victims -- five or six, max -- before having to stop and reload and the parish folk who were still mobile could have rushed him then, and gently pinned him down until a public defender could be found for him. Aren't principles as noble as Robert Francis' worth the lives of three or four innocents? /sarc

This article contains spoilers about the film Little Women. At a pivotal moment in Greta Gerwig’s outstanding new screen adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, the heroine, Jo March, exclaims to Marmee, “Women have minds and they have souls as well as just hearts. They’ve got ambition and they’ve got talent as well as just beauty. I am so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for. I’m so sick of it! But—I am so lonely.” While firm in its support for Jo’s assertion that women have a broader destiny than romance,

Nothing is ever as simple as good guy versus bad guy. Reality exists mostly in varying shades of gray. But there is no question Jack Wilson acted heroically as a church volunteer security guard when he killed a killer in the sanctuary of the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas, on Sunday. Wilson, a deeply experienced firearms instructor, was legally carrying and took down a gunman with a single shot. Are we relegated to finding solace in the fact that only three people died inside of a church in the latest tragedy, and must we seek comfort

You’ve heard about a “battle of the bands,” a contest among rock bands, country music bands, even high school marching bands. Long ago, a noisy competition between rival brass bands was held on a dreary December night, the prelude to an actual military battle the next day. This is the story of the original Battle of the Bands. There’s something particularly sad about being far from home during the holiday season, especially for soldiers in wartime. It made things worse for thousands of troops massed on the rolling hillsides of middle Tennessee at the end of 1862.

Anti-Semitic attacks continue to shake our city and state. Last week, eight attacks — including four in just in 48 hours — sent a familiar shockwave rippling through the Jewish community. Then Saturday came the horrific stabbing in Monsey, New York. The poison of Jew-hatred is spreading. Like many of you, I’m thinking, “Not this subject again.” How many columns can be devoted to it? I’ve read them. I’ve written them. It’s exhausting, and it’s dreary. Jews are being beaten up, anti-Semitism flows some years and ebbs in others. So what? But it matters — gravely.

There’s a poem Jews sing every evening after lighting Hanukkah candles. It is a basic Christian teaching that good works are insufficient for spiritual salvation. We should also remember they are unlikely to suffice for cultural and political salvation either. Chick-fil-A’s abandonment of The Salvation Army is yesterday’s news, but its lessons should be remembered, for they explain our cultural and political trajectory. That the chicken chain capitulated even though everyone was “eating mor chikin” is instructive regarding the power of the LBGT lobby and its allies. That they directed this power against a Christian organization dedicated to feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and sheltering the homeless — including those who identify as LGBT — is even more instructive.

Thanks to five major blunders over the last decade, the Republican Party is actually weaker than it was on Jan.1, 2010. To understand why, you have to document each key mistake in order:
