Amid the growing popularity of plant-based products, a doctor of veterinary medicine has suggested that the Burger King's Impossible Whopper has so much estrogen from soy that it could make men grow breasts. In a report in Tri-State Livestock News, Dr. James Stangle of South Dakota rails against the alternative burger, made by Impossible Foods, and its use of soy protein as a main ingredient. (Snip) 'Just six glasses of soy milk per day has enough estrogen to grow boobs on a male. That’s the equivalent of eating four impossible whoppers per day. You would have to eat 880 pounds of beef

This could be great. The amount of money guys would save on dates could pay for college or a car. Why go on the hunt for someone else's when you have your own?

Not one outfit pushing this "new meat" has even hinted what all is in it. Now the trickle of info we have to wonder will even be factual. Let the horror begin.

If it takes 4 Impossible Whoppers a day, it doesn’t sound like much of a risk.

Funny it never occurred to me to ask my vet if I might get breasts from eating soybeans, I must be “ig-nant”.

I'm surprised that this little experiment is still on the market. If I wanted a vegetable "burger" I would just buy a salad.

No, this isn't bull. I am on a soy-free, low-salt, and limited iron diet not by choice. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and my trigger was estrogen. Soy introduces estrogen in a body and soy is in everything because it is cheap. I cannot have beef or pork in large quantities because of the iron. The low-salt aspect of my diet is because of some side effects I am having with my medication for breast cancer. I can't prove it but I am changing things in my diet with that belief.
I have read some of the responses with this article and I can tell some people are uninformed. Just telling you what I have learned since being diagnosed. It has made such a difference for me. I feel better - I can always tell when I have eaten a soy-laden meal. Because soy is in so many products, it is difficult to get a meal (that I haven't prepared) without soy. Just saying. . .

I was checking out diets in order to lose weight and found that protein was indispensable for keeping hunger pangs in control. But when I consumed protein drinks with a soy protein, the weight didn't come off. Further reading showed that soy protein didn't build muscle. I'm not surprised that the estrogen is a side effect.
I'll keep the cows, thank you.

Per above poster on estrogen and diet - estrogen dominance in the body hold the fat.. middle age women know what happens to the middle.. it expands.. and unless you become aware of the estrogen raising foods- and environmental cleaning products too.. weight and shape won’t change with exercise.. small success, maybe- but really changing is the food.
I am not on any specific plan- but work to balance protein, carbs and fats.. cardio training in 4-7 minutes a day and walking..
I am going to research soy and estrogen levels.. makes sense!

Them impossible burger is vegan junk food. It is very unhealthy because of the heme iron and saturated fat. Just not as unhealthy as hamburger meat.
Within hours of eating meat, our kidneys rev up into hyperfiltration mode. Soy protein does not have the same effect. In fact Soy intake reduces breast cancer reoccurence. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2874068/pdf/nihms169338.pdf.
But Beer is known for promoting man boobs. Not Soy consumed as whole food. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1443418

Like poster #10, I too had estrogen positive breast cancer. The only change I was advised to make to my diet was the avoidance of soy products. ER-positive breast cancer is very common, which is why women need to think twice before adding even more soy to their diets.

Men were never designed by God to take in that kind of estrogen that a soy based diet provides the eater daily. This is a sneaky attack on men IMO, and I hope that men avoid these things like the plague. Would love to see how many of the transgenders had a steady diet of soy based products as part of their daily diet. I would bet that it is a scary high number in reality.

#10, my own personal experience as well. My tumor was estrogen related also. No flax seeds. No soy. No edamame. Nothing with phytoestrogens that can bind to estrogen receptors. My breast cancer was back in 1992 and I continue to avoid soy. Protein bars? Soy protein isolate. It’s in so many things. I read all labels thoroughly.

The fact that soy is very high in estrogen isn't news. I've been avoiding soy products for years. One very close member of my family has boobs, I really don't need them.

From Harvard Public Health https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/soy/
For those of you who prefer peer reviewed research over anecdotes and unsubstantiated claims
The Takeaway: Soy is a unique food that is widely studied for its estrogenic and anti-estrogenic effects on the body. Studies may seem to present conflicting conclusions about soy, but this is largely due to the wide variation in how soy is studied. Results of recent population studies suggest that soy has either a beneficial or neutral effect on various health conditions. Soy is a nutrient-dense source of protein that can safely be consumed several times a week, and is likely to provide health benefits—especially when eaten as an alternative to red and processed meat.

The number of times I have been inside a fastfood restaurant in the last decade can be counted on one hand. They cause me to gain weight, and it was cheaper to make my own lunch which was healthier.
I remember reading a horror story that had the four horsemen of the apocalypse in it. Famine was the CEO of a fast food conglomerate, and spent his time creating meals that would make a person grow fat, and starve at the same time. That just struck me as too close to reality.
Used to drink soy milk, but switch to almond milk because soy upset my stomach.

Sorry for second post, but it is my understanding that women who have not had breast cancer show some benefits from eating soy products. The same does not hold true for women who have had breast cancer. The tumor must be tested for estrogen. There is a scale that is used to determine whether the tumor is estrogen positive or not. I listen to my doctors advice. He says no soy.

After surgery and radiation I then had "hormone therapy", drugs that block estrogen receptors. It was at that time I was told by the oncologist to avoid soy. This was over a decade ago and maybe research has changed but I see no reason to add soy to my diet. And as someone has already said, if I want plant based meal I'll have a salad, not a soy "burger".

The Impossible burger “meat” isn’t derived directly from soybeans. Soy protein is added to genetically modified yeast, with soy leghemoglobin added for flavor and color and to create the “bloody” juiciness of beef. Although considered generally safe for consumption, soy leghemoglobin has not been cleared by the FDA.
The Impossible “meat” is lower in protein than beef, but higher in fat, fiber, carbohydrates, sodium, and some nutrients — all of which are added ingredients. There is little difference in calories count.
Doesn’t appeal to me much.

I always get soy milk because it doesn't spoil after two days like cow milk. I love beef and would never consider a plant substitute. But cows eat the plants. Something else to worry about. Every day we are told to worry about something. Creeping Climate Change, coffee, sugar, salt, wine, and now plants. Think I'll switch to the Honey Boo Boo Carnivore Diet.
