Georgia Rep. John Lewis, a longtime congressman and civil rights leader, announced Sunday he's undergoing treatment for stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Lewis, a Democrat who has represented Georgia's 5th Congressional District for over 30 years, said doctors discovered the cancer during a routine visit.
"While I am clear-eyed about the prognosis, doctors have told me that recent medical advances have made this type of cancer treatable in many cases, that treatment options are no longer as debilitating as they once were, and that I have a fighting chance," Lewis said in a statement.

Looking forward to the two weeks around the clock tv coverage of his courageous nonracist life in the traditions of MLK after he has gone to the medical examiners office.

The people I’ve known who’ve died of this horrific cancer - including my beloved father - have all been wonderful, amazing souls.
And then there’s RBG and Harry Reid so this dirtbag Lewis will probably be one of the very lucky few as well.
I have so many questions for God if I manage to make it to heaven.

I'm sincerely sorry to hear that anyone, anyone at all, has been handed a cancer diagnosis. However, John Lewis is like so many noisy Black Congressional Caucus members, he feathers his own nest, keeps getting elected, and year after year doesn't do a thing to improve the lives of his constituents.

Yes, Lewis is all of those things, but remember, he is also a human being with family and friends who love him. Lets make 2020 the best year yet for freedom, and allow God to handle this.

That's a horrible fate, pancreatic cancer is the worst. I'm sorry for anybody who has to go that road.
He was a giant once, he's rotted in office. It's a shame. I hope he will have the grace to see this catastrophic illness as a reason to leave office and not put ego ahead of service to his constituents like Ted Kennedy and McCain did.

One wonders what a person such as he thinks when receiving a diagnosis like this. My aunt recently died of Stage 4 lung cancer. She had been told that she had another 18 months to live, but God called her home suddenly way before that. Nevertheless, she was prepared and that was the best gift she left behind -- her family is at peace knowing she's in the redemptive arms of Jesus. However, one wonders what this congressman thinks as he will inevitably face his Maker. Will he recall and regret and repent of his past corruption and behavior....or does he think that he's got nothing to worry about -- after all, he's seen to it that his kin have been amply provided for (no matter the means!) and therefore he'll be rewarded and praised on his day of reckoning?

Same disease, same claims about better possible outcomes.
Didn't make a difference.
One thing is that he never lost his hair.

My younger brother is going through this, having been diagnosed with stage 1 / early stage 2 pancreatic cancer earlier this year after severe stomach issues. He has been undergoing chemo and radiation therapy to shrink the tumour so that it can be completely removed. His recent cancer indicators were in the hundreds instead of the thousands and his doctor told him recently that he "is winning" his fight. I pray that this is correct. He was with us for Thanksgiving and Christmas and looks good, albeit tired and much thinner.
Cancer sucks, even for "civil rights icons!!"

While we were blessed with over 11 years with my father-in-law after diagnosis of pancreatic cancer (it was just luck that it was discovered before symptoms emerged, although the treatment nearly killed him), I know that this is a form of cancer that at that Stage is a difficult prognosis.
As a doctor once told me, it's a time where you go to Fiji and don't worry about the Visa bill.
My prayers to Rep. Lewis and his family. I may not agree with him on everything politically, but Stage 4 pancreatic cancer is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

My grandfather died one week after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As a human being I do not wish this on anyone. However, this man has used his badge of "civil rights icon" to mean that he is untouchable as a politician. Those who disagree with him are obviously racist. A person at the age of 79 with a stage four cancer needs to resign. Prepare yourself for medical treatment and spend some quality time with your family. We all can be replaced. America will continue if he decides to take his leave.

I never wish illness or bad things on anyone, no matter how corrupt and reprehensible they may be. However, I wonder if this is somehow a result of that parade they had celebrating the passage of Zerocare. As the poster said...karma...

Everything that happens is in conformance to God's Plan. Lewis needs to settle his accounts in a manner that is in conformance with God's Plan. It sounds as if that's all he's really got time for now, so he ought to make it a priority.

Did he ever string together 2 or 3 sentences without the words ''racist'' or ''racism?'' Over 30 years in Congress and that's the sum total of it all. Do the right thing for a change, resign your office and spend time with your family.

It's a better story than the one he made up about being spit on by white people while marching in some communist protest, which the video tape refuted. But ,of course , it would be racist to say he was lying.

Cancer is not as bad as Alzheimer's disease. What Alzheimer's does to your mind and body is like a long living death that's humiliating, degrading and very expensive for your long care. There's not one thing that slows or cures Alzheimer's. You're lucky if it kills you quickly or you die from something else first. John Lewis is a nasty POS. Good riddance to bad black racist rubbish. Karma as others have commented.
