After weeks of behind-the-scenes debate, Senate Republicans have hit on their strategy for handling President Trump’s impeachment: a brief trial — with no witness testimony — and a fast acquittal.
“I’m ready to vote now,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) told The Hill. “I think the articles are a joke.”
But they don’t want to dismiss the House Democrats’ charges out of hand, as some Trump allies have proposed.
“It’s time for him to have his day in court,” Hawley said. “The president deserves to have due process.”
Trump, who was calling for a full-blown trial with multiple witnesses (Snip) now supports the Senate leadership’s plan.

On the surface very good news, witnesses and witlesses would begat more investigation leading to more yada yada yada.
But the dirty politicians escape who are behind or abetting the whole smear. Those are Uniparty trash of both parties.
Trump will triumph and keep MAGA. Hopefully Barr will nail some...

Is San Fran Nan sunning her perineum in the Aloha State? Why didn't she stay home in the City by the Bay? Probably couldn't get away from the stench.

Aside from Nancy Pelosi allegedly vacationing in Hawaii for Christmas, Number 44 and family are allegedly in Hawaii at this time, presumably at their vacation home in Kailua.

Does this “united GOP” include Murkowski, Collins, and Romney?

Witnesses and facts could be incriminating for both Democrats and select Republicans.

Long-term politicians of both parties have a very good reason to bury this pile of corruption.

Put me in the column with #7 and #8:::::: the desire to avoid exposure of long-term corruption is bipartisan, unfortunately. Much discussion and trading is going on beneath the surface, behind the scenes. Black-mail is not entirely off the table, to my mind (a la Chief Justice Roberts). Nothing is as it seems.

I wouldn’t bother debating it. Nancy is NOT going to send the articles to the senate.
Game over. PDT wins again.

Allow each side to depose witnesses and use those documents at the Senate trial.

Call the witnesses. Ask them for proof. There was the one man who had a presumption about what PDT said. Sorry, Buddy. A presumption is like an assumption, right?

Live witness testimony--and, to a lesser extent, deposition testimony--would drag out the duration of the Senate trial immeasurably, with regular recesses to allow the FBI to investigate new claims. We all know that the dems will dig up a few more perjured witnesses like Susan Blasey Ford and the other deranged women Feinstein dredged up at the last minute for the Justice Kavanaugh confirmation hearings.
If the Trump/Republican team allows witnesses, the dems will stomp and scream that they should be allowed to drag in their own witnesses, regardless of the irrelevance of those witnesses' testimony. You have to know that the dems' witnesses will be "testifying" for the benefit of the MS media, basically of 360 degrees of "Orange Man Bad."
McConnell should simply print out the House's Articles of Impeachment from the Internet and proceed with the trial. If Pelosi is permitted to delay the trial indefinitely, she'll surely wait for the key moment to deliver the articles when the maximum damage can be inflicted upon the Trump reelection campaign. The dems will invent many more "offenses" that they will claim fall under the broad rubric of "abuse of power." They'll claim it would be a gross, unconstitutional injustice to ignore these "newly-discovered" witnesses and claims.
Alan Dershowitz has persuasively opined that, under Nancy's obstruction of the Senate stalemate, the Senate need not wait for the House to deliver their articles of impeachment before commencing the impeachment trial. If McConnell announces a trial commencing in one week, Nancy will have no alternative but to come marching to the Senate, stuttering her outrage with limbs flailing, mouth grimacing, and false teeth shifting.
Make Nancy dance to YOUR tune, Mitch. Don't dance to hers!

Give these charges the consideration they deserve. Throw them out! As for a trial with witnesses, leave that to AG Barr and Durham.

A Senate trial is courting trouble as anti-PDT "witnesses" will be paraded through the media without opportunity to cross examine or respond. The good news for the UNIPARTY is that it minimizes any further $$$ kickback damage. Biden is taking his lumps and liking it, because he has no choice.

How about a no-trial trial? The charges are bogus on the surface, deserve a reading, and then a rejection as invalid. End of "trial".
