Police forces in the United Kingdom have squandered over a million pounds on electric cars that are incapable of chasing criminals or performing emergency services because the eco-friendly vehicles are too slow and take too long to charge.
A freedom of information request found that police in the UK have spent £1.49 million on 448 green cars and vans. However, the actual cost of the eco-police fleets is likely much higher as many districts have not reported their purchases.
The official police reports admit that the battery-powered cars are incapable of fulfilling police duties such as chasing criminals or handling emergency response situations and often run out of power before a shift

A win-win for the leftists. Saving the planet and freeing the criminals.

I think Socialists are individuals with adolescent minds attempting to appear "super smart" in order to get control over the rest of the population. When they have this control, they do not know what to do with it. Listen to what the US Dem candidates are saying and be sure to vote Republican. They are mostly adults. They will buy cars that can do the chase.

But but it was their pure intentions that were important, not whether their solutions work (as they never seem to do) that was important

I think the comment at the end of the article should be read this way "the British public should not worry about police not being able to respond to emergencies “because their cars have run out of battery”, as the police wouldn't respond to emergencies in a timely fashion anyway." Hopefully, the overwhelming victory of Boris Johnson will begin to change that.

A crook with a real, gas powered vehicle would be unstoppable, it appears.

For that amount of money think of the used French Peugeots they could have purchased that would have been much more usable. Stupid liberal PC greenies always wasting other people's money.

Why buy any police cars, when the government just frees the criminals anyway?
Didn't California make gas powered cars illegal anyway in their most recent Save the Planet campaign?

The once-respected British justice system is a shambles. Political correctness has put incompetent leaders in power and they are much more interested in charging citizens for "hate speech" than catching real criminals. They actually advertise for 'diverse' (Muslim) candidates to join the force. This situation is one of the main reasons that the Labor Party got wiped out in the last election. A lot of Brits have had it up to here.

Looks like a job for Super Boris. Turn them into tuna cans. Use them in a motorcade when Greta comes to town and she can walk the last couple of miles. Use them as a security detail for vice-president Dyslexia Occasionally-Cognizant. Sounds like a theme for a new Monty Python Series except the term Upper Class Twit is now considered hate speech (probably justified) and so RANT OVER. Carry on folks This thread has some entertainment potential.

The Brits don't do those things anyway. Chasing criminals might be offensive to the criminals, and emergency responses could have religious implications to the moslems who caused the emergency.
Better to spend time enforcing thought and speech laws against real Englishmen, who aren't likely to run or cause trouble.

Anybody on the planet could have predicted this outcome. Why doesn't the UK use the USA demonrat model of proposing that citizens are required by law to own electric vehicles so only the criminals have souped up gasoline vehicles to further their criminal activities. After all, demonrats want to take guns away from law abiding citizens in the USA so only the criminals have them. Plus Barry's Army of course.

I swear anytime you read about a thief, abuser, rapist..etc.,etc. you can bet in the headline it says..spared jail....it is beyond reason..their justice system is broken.

How appropriate, a commercial ad for electric cars just appeared above the reply box...can't say Lucianne doesn't have a sense of humor...
I have to assume the cops will be having 'No Speed' car chases!

Tesla could build or modify a Police vehicle that would catch anything any criminal could drive. Of course it would have to be maintained which means a highvoltage charging station, otherwise it would only be fully charged every other day since normal house current is slow for the huge battery pack. All the usual police equipment would decrease the range and sitting at a speed trap with the AC on would cut it even more. Not really a problem in the UK.
Don't kid yourself, Teslas can be extremely fast and can handle as well as a Porsche. See what one did at the Nuremberg Ring vs Porsche. The problem her is the British went for the PC headline of being 'green.' Not practical police cars, just the appearance of innovation. Like the unarmed Bobbies. With the millions of cameras in the UK why bother chasing criminals with cars anyway? If you see where they are going intercept them or buy an old Ford Interceptor.
