Boeing's new Starliner capsule won't dock with the International Space Station on Saturday after launching into the wrong orbit just minutes after blasting off on its first test flight. NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine said it burned more fuel than anticipated to maintain control which 'precluded a space station rendezvous'. With less fuel on board, it puts the rest of the flight in jeopardy. The Starliner was supposed to reach the space station on Saturday and stay for a week. The Starliner capsule went off course into the wrong orbit just minutes after blasting off on its first test flight-a crucial dress rehearsal

I think I see the problem... they need to remove the foreskin.

My first thought: software problem. Oops, would not have seemed inappropriate. Boeing's engineers are not going to feel festive this Christmas and New Year season. It is important to note the comment that if having an astronaut on board meant that the software problem would have been able to fix the problem sooner. SpaceX is smiling back on planet Earth.

China probably already has the plans and is building their own version.

Maybe Boeing should quit offshoring their software testing?
I am deadly serious. People have died because of the Boeing software.

Let me guess; the MCAS system pulled the nose down.

Great job. The Boomers are retiring, the next gen taking over. And a lot of stuff is collapsing.
My old military weapons production job almost never missed a scheduled ship of critical military weapons parts in the 35 years I worked there. A friend who works there now tells me that they now regularly miss shipping schedules, most programs are seriously behind schedule. Some is incompetent upper management brought into the division by the company we merged with rather than promoting from within our division, bringing in outside directors who are literally clueless about low production rate high reliability military grade weapons systems compared to high production rate consumer products where a few bad products or late to market is no huge deal. Building a few hundred highest quality "perfect" weapons grade units is way different than building 300,000 'fairly good' consumer grade units in the same time frame. In fact, they have very, very little in common.
And some is that we have about 50% females in leadership positions now where we had about 10-15% when I was there. Too many folks being promoted for their Affirmative Action "skills" rather than their engineering and management skills, it would seem.

The good thing about technology is that it does not respect persons or corporations or governments.
The bad thing about technology is that it does not respect persons or corporations or governments.
If you don't get all of the details correct, failure is likely - no matter who or what you are.
NASA and the Soviets had plenty of miscues on their way to "glory". Just get back to the drawing board, fix it, and try again.

Well.....that might explain the massive trail it left after launch. I was able to watch the first stage separation from S. Georgia, and it was spectacular. The sky was cobalt blue and the massive trail was glowing white from the sun still over the horizon. But the smoke trail was enormous.

United Launch Alliance is a joint venture of both Boeing and Lockheed. I'm sure there's plenty of blame to go around.

Didn't Boeing move their headquarters to Chicago concurrent with King Putt's coronation? That always puzzled me.
