A proposal for a $569 million bond to build two new high school buildings in Midland failed by 25 votes in the November election, a margin slim enough it set off calls for a recount.
The ballots were recounted manually, and to the delight of Midland ISD officials, the results flipped and the proposal passed by a margin of 11 votes.
But last week, a Midland elections staffer found a box on the bottom of a shelf in the office containing 836 ballots that weren't tallied in the recount. Those votes threaten to again reverse the election results, which school officials are counting on

Should something like this actually happen, then those responsible for the ballot boxes should immediately lose their position and spend some time in the gray hotel, as they used to call it, for either corruption or incompetence. Which might help to deter some future occurrences. And the ballots shouldn't count. Period. The election is over.

Here in California after an election day, they're always finding that missing box of ballots.

That's ridiculous that they'd "find" a ballot box at the bottom of a shelf.
First, X number of boxes are issued, and all should be accounted for, untouched, at the end of the election day. PERIOD.
Talk about disenfranchising people's vote with all of the shenanigan's that have been happening in the last several years, in particular.

OK< without reading anything beyond the headline, let me guess.
1. Dems in charge.
2. Dems in favor of the losing side.
3. There are JUST ENOUGH votes in the "magically discovered" box to change the outcome.

There has to be a way to account for ballot boxes. 200 ballot boxes go out so 200 ballot boxes should be returned at the end. How hard can it be? 200 go out, and only 199 come back? We are missing a ballot box.

So the manual recount had 800+ votes fewer than were electronically voted? They knew there were missing paper ballots and certified the recount anyway?? And Midland County's Election website showed the bond winning even though mail-in ballots hadn't been counted, and it actually lost??
And the icing on the cake: "Correction: An earlier version of this story provided the wrong number for how many votes the bond issue failed by on election night, and incorrectly stated how the recount was initiated."

Al Franken must have driven down to Midland to drop these off. After all that is how he won his Senate west by finding boxes of ballots. The Democrat way.

Ballot boxes are so old fashioned. Here in Oregon we have mail-in ballots which makes it sooo much easier for the Democrat machine to count or not count as many ballots as they like without having to pretend to "find" ballot boxes.

Poor ballot stuffing technique by the Dems!
The election was over a month ago. Those ballots should have long been destroyed by now.

Reminds me of 'Landslide Lyndon' Johnson and the missing ballot box....1948, Democrat primary for Senator.
Alice, TX.... missing ballot box.
"When the dust settled, the newly recounted ballots showed 202 additional voters, some of whom were deceased and buried in the local cemetery or were absent from the county on election day.
These voters “lined up” in alphabetical order at the last minute, signed in the same blue ink in the same handwriting and all cast their ballots for LBJ."
Some things never change.

I'm willing to bet someone switched out a ballot box for a ringer they knew would be more in their favor. Then the original box is stored till it can be disposed of, or maybe someone got lazy, or careless.
The ballots all matched up - there were just a few ringers substituting for the originals.

A case of a missing ballot box? Oh sure, I believe that one. Apparently the tried and true car trunk full of ballots has lost its luster.

I've worked elections. At the end of election day, every single ballot must be accounted for. The completed ballots and the unused ballot totals must match the number of ballots issued to the election judge. I don't see how this could happen if everyone is being honest. Probably everyone was not.
