Hours after he was born in 1989, Freddie Figgers was set down next to a dumpster in a rural area of Florida's panhandle. A passerby found him alone and in distress, and called police. The infant was hospitalized with minor injuries for two days, then placed in a foster home. The couple who took him in, Nathan and Betty Figgers, lived in nearby Quincy, Florida, and already had a daughter. Shortly after Freddie began living with them, the Figgerses - who often took in foster children - decided to adopt him.

What is the excuse the baby murders use to justify abortion? Oh yeah, "the child will grow up unwanted and unloved." The remains of their babies are literally thrown away in the infectious waste garbage to be incinerated. This boy's mother at least had the decency to give birth and set her baby next to and not in the garbage. As bad as she was his mother was a better human being than 600,000 women (in this country alone) who had their babies aborted last year.

I just posted this in my student’s digital classroom. The most important part of this story is his adoptive parents. Love, support, and driving curiosity set the course upon which this young man sails. What a fantastic story. Oh, and while the cruelty of his classmates hurt him, it did not and does not define him.

In 2015 we brought home from China our son Leland. He had been abandoned in a trash can the day after he was born. Trash workers found Leland (with his umbilical chord still attached.) We brought him home when he was almost 5. He's 9 now, smart as a whip and yes...he loves his Chrome Book. We expect great things from Lee. Maybe not so much becoming a millionaire - but he's gonna do awesome things. Thank you Lord for Leland and our older son Scotty (also adopted from Guatemala. We brought him home when he was 8 months. He's now two weeks away from turning 15. Loves physics, math, programming and is an awesome JV basketball player.)

Shame on those classmates. I know there is a Lord of the Flies pecking order with many kids, but their behavior is a reflection on their parents lack of parenting. Just as Freddie's parents inspiration is reflected in his success. Good for him and for them.

What a wonderful story. Glad to read about it, and happy to see another good example for kids out there. I had a cousin who was adopted by my mother's sister and her husband. He had problems as a child, had difficulties in school, probably related to his mother's problems. He learned a good work ethic from his parents, and started working at the bottom for a national top-brand window company. The last I heard, he was the regional manager for that large national window company, doing very well. Giving someone a good upbringing can help them to overcome a lot.

Qassem Soleimani’s demise came as his life project — spreading the Islamic Republic’s zeal in the Mideast and beyond — was crumbling. That doesn’t mean the Iranian general couldn’t, or wouldn’t, have wreaked the kind of harm that the Trump administration felt it needed to preempt. It may even explain why Soleimani has been on such a manic campaign. In any event, shortly after the drone kill at Baghdad airport was confirmed, Secretary of State Pompeo re-tweeted a video of gleeful Iraqis who had awakened at at 4:30 a.m. in Baghdad

So much for the taunt from Iran’s “supreme leader,” Ayatollah Khamanei, that America “cannot do a damn thing” about Iran’s attack on our embassy in Baghdad. It took President Trump but a day after that jibe to wheel on the Iranians. He launched a drone attack that found and killed the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, General Qassim Soleimani. It is likely to mark a turning point in the not-so-quasi war that Iran has been levying against us — and, among others, Israel. This is not a situation in which responsibility is being debated on murky evidence.

Mainstream media falsely reports conservatives are “outraged” over a video of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) dancing. By the first week of January, the hoaxes of 2019 had already kicked off, with the mainstream media reporting — without any evidence — that conservatives had become “outraged” over a video of socialist Rep. So many hate attacks have taken place in American houses of worship. Religiously-dressed Jews have been senselessly attacked on the streets. Now that it’s over, can we all agree that 2019 was a mess? The best part about it was that not much got done in Washington. The economy grew not in spite of that fact, but because of it. The economy thrives on stability, and Democrats controlling the House brought a degree of that – none of their crazy ideas were going anywhere, thankfully, so the economy is safe…for now. The economic boom and historically low unemployment allowed everyone to focus on other things, and to go crazy over them.

Washington -- What do you make of it? Merry Christmas greetings have been assaulting me from every corner. The assaults began about two weeks ago. I think I was in a CVS store buying aspirin for a splitting headache. No, possibly it was at the dry cleaners, and I was picking up a sweater. The person at the counter let fall a "Merry Christmas." I, of course, reciprocated and hurried off. I would have thought nothing of it, but it has continued for two weeks. Will it even continue after Christmas Day? What does it mean? The editor-in-chief of Christianity Today, Mark Galli, wrote an editorial calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. In my view, this editorial only serves to confirm one of the sadder realizations of my life: that religious conviction guarantees neither moral clarity nor common sense. The gist of the editorial -- and of most religious and conservative opposition to President Trump -- is that any good the president has done is dwarfed by his character defects. This is an amoral view that says more about Galli than it does about the president.

Actress Jameela Jamil is listing several arguments for abortion on social media. But, despite her efforts, she has yet to answer the central question the pro-life movement poses: When does life begin? In December, a column drew attention to an interview where Jamil and feminist activist Gloria Steinem declared that abortion is necessary for democracy. In the following weeks, The Good Place actress doubled-down on her comments by repeating common abortion talking points. They included: “My life *is* more important” than a “clump of cells,” the pro-life movement disregards mothers and their children after birth, and abortion will “help the earth a lot.”

Many on the left (as opposed to liberals) have been warring on Christmas for more than a generation. Leftists always deny there is a war on Christmas and mock those who claim there is. There is a mind-blowing chutzpah or lack of self-awareness when people do something and yet deny that they are actually doing it. But the evidence is overwhelming. The left has stopped schools from calling Christmas vacations by that name -- the name schools called them throughout American history until the last couple of decades. Almost every non-Christian school in America now calls Christmas vacation "winter break."

It’s odd how the political left cheers America’s shortcomings and mourns its victories. The United States killed the top terrorist on the planet Thursday, and Democrats were…upset. Perhaps “upset” is too vague, they were a combination of angry and scared. They were angry that President Trump ordered an air strike on Qassem Soleimani, a man responsible for the deaths of more than 600 American soldiers and thousands more wounded. They tried to pretend they were glad he was dead, that he deserved to die, but their quick condemnation of the action that took him out exposed what they were really thinking.

For decades, land-use regulation across the U.S. has emphasized single-family houses on large lots. This approach has priced many people out of the quintessential American dream: home ownership. It also has promoted suburban sprawl — a pattern of low-density, car-dependent development that has dominated growth at the edges of urban areas since the end of World War II. Now, however, Americans may be starting to question the desirability of a private house. In the past year, the Minneapolis City Council and the state of Oregon have voted to allow duplexes and other types of multi-unit housing in neighborhoods where currently only single-family homes currently are allowed.

When the news broke about the death of Qassem Soleimani in an American airstrike, it was inevitable that the Democrats and the media would denounce the action and once again declare President Trump unfit for office. More surprising was the opprobrium heaped on the raid and its underlying rationale by Tucker Carlson. The Fox News host is usually fairly sensible, if given to the hyperbole and simulated indignation required by the talking head genre. Moreover, he tends to be supportive of the President and his policies. Carlson’s response to the Soleimani killing, however, was uninformed, uncharacteristically hostile to Trump, and generally unhinged.
