U.S. women's soccer star Megan Rapinoe has been named Sports Illustrated's Sportsperson of the Year for 2019. The magazine announced Monday that Rapinoe, co-captain of the 2019 World Cup champions, was honored with "the most prestigious honor in all of sports media," which is bestowed annually upon an athlete, coach or team who "best represents the spirit and ideals of sportsmanship, character and performance." (Snip) She also took home the tournament's top honors: the Golden Boot, for the top scorer, and the Golden Ball, for the best player in the tournament, and in September was named Best FIFA Women's Player for 2019.

Never read it until about 2009 when a young lady who worked for us as a ranch hand won the state title for Track and Field the group event all by herself. She did it again the following year and that was the only time ever picked one up and read it. They didn't do her justice as to how hard she had to work with very little equipment, to very little formal training. They put Rapinoe on the cover and hold her up...not impressed as that chick has pretty much things handed to her and is treated like a pampered princess.

London - The battle for control of Libya threatened to escalate further this week as Turkey said it might intervene to stop the Russian-backed forces now closing in on Tripoli, the capital. In comments to Turkish television networks on Monday night and again on Tuesday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pointedly raised the possibility that Turkey might send troops to counter the Russians if the United Nations-recognized government headquartered in Tripoli formally requested it. Muammar el-Qaddafi during the Arab Spring revolt, the country remains mired in chaos.

A federal judge in Texas issued a permanent injunction Tuesday blocking President Trump from using billions of dollars Congress earmarked for the Defense Department to instead build his border wall. Judge David Briones, a Clinton appointee to the bench, had previously ruled Mr. Trump’s move illegal, but had given both sides a chance to argue over what the remedy should be. “Because defendants’ actions are unlawful and the people’s representatives — Congress — declined to augment the border wall budget as defendants attempt, the public interest would be served by halting them,” the judge wrote.
