The Supreme Court has taken up the question of whether homeless people have the constitutional right to sleep on the sidewalk. The justices on Friday were scheduled to hear an appeal of a controversial ruling last year by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, according to the Los Angeles Times. In the ruling, Judge Marsha Berzon banned cities from prosecuting homeless people for living on the streets. Berzon ruled that charging homeless people with a crime for sleeping on the sidewalk is cruel and unusual punishment if the city in which homeless people live does not offer enough shelters as an alternative.

The Supreme Court needs to overturn this ruling ASAP! This has cursed west coast cities with hordes of bums and drug addicts who feel 'entitled' to destroy our communities.

Imagine if the homeless were allowed to encamp in the judge's front yard.

This is a problem mainly caused by the Dems. Let them deal with it. Why should the taxpayers have to foot the bill for the lazy, mentally ill or drug addled? Bring back the old time poor house/farm. Beneath their dignity? They have no dignity to start with.
I'm not speaking of the truly needy; just those who I first mentioned.

Personally, I think it's sad our country has come to this. This is common sense, not something that goes all the way to the Supreme Court! Anyone with half a Brain(that is not often found in Government) would know that people should not be allowed to set up tents and throw their garbage on a city sidewalk. A good Mayor would have nipped that in the bud. A good governor would have back that mayor, and none of this should have been before our Supreme Court!

It will take the idiots on the present court to decide it's a "right." Never underestimate the legal perversity of the Dred Pirate Roberts.

Common sense, sadly, is not so common any more !!

In many cases their being on the streets is not due to a lack of shelters, but is due to their inability or refusal to adhere to shelter rules of no drugs, no alcohol, and no guns.
This is not a homeless problem, it is a drug addict and mental handicap problem. Easier access to rehab and approval of asylums for the mentally ill is the only way out of this mess.

I there is any question as to whether the bums should be allowed to do this on public property, let them set up camp on the governor's/mayors lawns.
I swear that we should not let women become judges. Well, except Judy.....

Imbecile judge Bezon was appointed by Clinton, the Rapist-in-Chief, so does anyone expect wisdom or virtue there?

If the local government confiscated this property for use by the public, then the public ought to be able to use it. I resent the hell out of going to public parks and being told I cant carry my gun or drink beer.
Instead, why not make the place less attractive to the bums? Stop the freebies. Stop feeding them and taking care of their medical. Prosecute them for the petty offenses as well as the serious ones. They are obviously comfortable living like this. Make it UNcomfortable.

Stop calling them encampments. They are refugee camps. Thank the left for flooding our country with illegal immigrants with absolutely no place to go, and no future.

The issue should not be up to a judge. It should be up to the city. Homeless people who don't like the city's rules are free to find another city. America is not supposed to be ruled by judges!

What about the 'rights' of the business/property owners?
These people should live on the sidewalks near Starbucks.

That's why they are called sidewalks instead of sidecampsites.
