Washington - Congress is nearing a deal on paid parental leave for federal employees, according to four sources familiar with the negotiations. It's a significant development for government workers but one that highlights the disparity with most American workers, who still aren’t given paid leave.
The agreement would give 2.1 million non-military federal workers 12 weeks of paid leave to care for a newborn or adopted child or to care for a family member, according to sources familiar with the details of the discussions. If passed, the bill would the become first time the federal government has guaranteed civilian employees access to paid parental leave.

Three months of getting paid for not working? How is that fair? If the govt grants this gift, the private sector will want it next, and no employer should be forced to provide this. This is in addition to 4-5 weeks of vacation and 2 weeks of holidays. That adds up to 19 weeks of paid time off in a single calendar year.

Why not? It's only tax payers that have to foot the bill. If that doesn't work, just print more money and pay them with that. /s

I'm betting they already get sick leave that can be carried over, weeks of vacation added after short employment milestones, funeral leave, jury duty leave. Good news, government employees don't have to come to work.

Thank you, no 4!
In one succinct sentence, you articulated my thoughts exactly. As the Communists will tell you, having a baby is a CHOICE. So why am I forced to pay for your choice?

Wanna' bet Ivanka Trump is in on this? She's working on all sorts of benefits for women. It all sounds nice but millions of us worked with whatever leave our jobs provided. That's why I always worked for governments. I got paid leave each month and just saved it. It got me through surgery and other long illnesses, but I earned this. No one gave me time off with pay.

Federal Employees already get paid time off at 2 times the rate of private sector employees.
3 weeks vacation and 12 paid holidays from day one with 2 weeks additional sick time. This ll carries over so saving up 12 weeks of PTO is no problem. If someone servers 3 years in the military and goes into federal employment they start at 4 weeks vacation from day 1.

Yeah the government employees have it so rough. As a small time contractor I’ve never had paid sick day or vacation. I have worked numerous jobs with broken bones. I don’t make a nickel unless I produce something. My only pension is what the government already stole from me for social security. But the corrupt bureaucrats need more. Screw them!

I don’t know, #7. Ivanka has been working on that with private company CEOs. She knows government workers are not hurting fir time off and benefits.

They get their $100,000 student loans forgiven after 10 years as a silly servant, whereas any other schlub working in the private sector never gets that mortgage off his/her back. They're creating an upper class of government worker, and to think, the Founders didn't even think the Federal government should be in session full-time.

Civilian employees have had Family Leave for years. You can take it but it has to come out of your own Annual or Sick leave. Once you run out, you can advertise for others to donate their leave to you. This bill must make the federal goobermint pay for the whole thing, not the employee or redistribution from others. I wonder how much this would be abused.

This is totally crazy and the senate better kill it NOW. When I worked for the government, you accured your leave by not using it until you needed it. Just giving the Fed employees 3 months is total nuts. Most employees receive 4 hours every two weeks of sick leave and anywhere from 4 to 8 hours every two weeks for annual. You would think, they could manage to save up enough to cover parental needs.

Government workers already receive wages and benefits 117% of the private sector and now Congress wants to up it. This is more evidence of the deep state.

Federal employees, from the day they are hired, get 30 DAYS sick time and 30 vacation DAYS annually. That's 12 weeks paid time off annually. Then there are the federal holidays. Oh....... And the fed does t have a use it or lose it policy. Federal employees can accrue vacation AND sick time.
Then they have the worlds best retirement plan and medical benefits.
Want to tackle government spending, start by treating federal employees like corporations do.

How is it that the Legislative Branch continues to be able to burden US taxpayers with healthcare perks for themselves that not only the Military is left out of, but those paying for it? Shame on Congress, and President Trump if he signs this into law.
