Fired Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer lashed out at President Trump in an interview with CBS News on the steps of the Pentagon Monday evening. Spencer, who mutinied against Trump over his order to not kick Chief Petty Officer Eddie Gallagher out of the Navy SEALs, also attacked Trump in his letter acknowledging his firing this past weekend over the Gallagher case.(Photo) Spencer said of Trump, “What message does that send to the troops? That you can get away with this? We have to have good order and discipline

Yak, yak, yak. Maybe Shifty can bring you in for a deposition. I'm sure somebody told you that somebody's neighbor's dog walker's niece's Sunday School teacher's mailman's first-cousin twice-removed's plumber heard that Trump might have burped after his second scoop of ice cream once.

Didn't Eisenhauer have to fire General MacArthur back in the 50's?
That must have been very hard to do. MacArthur was probably far more popular than the president at that time. But rules are rules, even for big time showboats with big time egos.
This Spencer was due to be taken down a few pegs too.

His call for order and discipline amongst the troops sounds a little hollow given his attitude and behavior towards his superior.

I agree, and disobeying the CiC is not the way to achieve it. Spencer's as$ should have been gone a long time ago!

Same SecNavy that allowed Officers that did not know how navigate or command ships - running into civilian ships in Pacific? Same that allowed 5-7 of Gallagher’s subordinates to make up lies in their complaints? Same Navy Pentagon command that has allowed defense contractors to build a billion dollar USS Zumwalt destroyer - launched this year - but won’t be sailable for SIX more years? Guy needs t/b in prison for negligence in not fulfilling his duties - almost as bad a AG Jeff Sessions.

Another whiny dog who thinks his position is for life and they can do whatever they want. Well....it ain't! Get over it! Personally, I'd like an audit of his expenses to see whether he's put any additions on his home under a Navy contract, for instance.

This is his excuse for going over the Secretary of Defense’s head to the White House in an attempt to get President Trump to sign on to a would be “rigged” Navy proceeding targeting Chief Gallagher who had already received a presidential pardon and who will be retiring from the Navy at the end of November.
If Trump had gone along that connivance would have been an Adam Schiff special!

Gallagher was set to retire this weekend and they wanted one more shot at him. Anyhow, the Secretary of the Navy disregarded the chain on command and so he was made an example of.
Let me call the ambulance for Spenser

Don't forget, Trump went to New York Military Academy and he KNOWS how the military discipline structure works. In fact, according to one article he excelled at it and learned how to WIN within the structure. That still shines out today, play hard to WIN and stay within the rules, even if just barely sometimes.
So for Spencer to dis Trump about not understanding the military is all Spencer's ego speaking out. Spencer is a bigger version of Vindman. In a battle of egos, NO ONE is Trump's equal. And if anyone is entitled to an ego, Trump is. He earned it. If I were Vindman, seeing what happened to Spencer, I would be very worried because Trump IS the President. Vindman could end up in Antarctica counting penguins for the rest of his dead end career.

Good order and discipline is important, but having war fighters who will aggressively fight the enemy is the purpose of the military. Trump's overall aim is to prevent the REMF and perfumed princes from breaking the fighting spirit in the enlisted ranks and the lower officer ranks.
It is like raising a child. You want to instill self discipline and conform them to standards without breaking their spirit.
Recall that scene in Lone Survivor when the SEALS were making a decision in battle based on how it would be reported in the newspapers. It got them all killed, but one.

For Spencer, don’t let the door etc. Secondly, it was President Truman who fired General MacArthur. MacArthur wanted to have our fighter planes pursue the Soviet MIGS into Manchuria after they broke off combat, but the orders were for our pilots to turn back at the Yalu River. Truman didn’t want China to enter the conflict. MacArthur argued the case too much in the public and Truman had to show who was in charge. China entered the fray anyway with the approval of Stalin. The Russians held all the cards and were the ones supplying the arms to the Chinese and North Koreans. Spencer learned who was in charge, like MacArthur.

One could stop reading at the end of his paragraph. "We have to have good order and discipline". That applies up and down the chain of command. It did not give him a special "out" when it came to obeying the command of HIS Commander-in-Chief! End of story. Anyone else, would have immediately be dismissed if they refused a command, so I think his being fired was the right thing for his actions!

Number 5, just as a point of history, Truman fired MacArthur, for not following Truman's orders.

President Truman dumped MacArthur as Marines in Korea cheered (quietly).
On 11 April 1951, U.S. President Harry S. Truman relieved General of the Army Douglas MacArthur of his commands after MacArthur made public statements which contradicted the administration's policies.
