In this era of partisan divisions, Joanne Rogers often laments how much this generation of children could use the kindness radiated by her late husband.
"I’ve never known it in my life to be like this (time period)," she told NBC News ahead of the Thursday release of "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood."
"One of the most important things to Fred was reconciliation. I think he would be appalled," she says of the political discourse of this era. "I am appalled."
So, it's no coincidence that "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" —

After the last 3 years, I honestly do not believe that the lie-berals are capable of kindness or empathy.
The pure evil of their hate for their president, Donald Trump, is just beyond the pale!!!!! And I don't think they will ever be able to recover from it!!!

Apparently he was the character he portrayed. I never thought so. But I didn’t tell the kids.

I'd like to see more of Mr. Rogers-style entertainment for children than Drag Queen junk, that's for certain.

I used to watch this after sesame street and was about to change channels, saying this is boring. My 4 year old son who never challenged me said, But I like it. I guess he found it soothing so we always watched it after that

Honestly I can not think of anything more boring than sitting through a Mr. Rogers movie.

Fred Rogers message of kindness and empathy was based on something more than human virtue. It was based on his Christian faith, which says that man was created in the image and likeness of God.

I don't think I could ever get through 2 minutes of Tom Hanks speaking so creepy. I'd have to leave the theater.

First of all, Ethan, I think your last name is spelled wrong. IT's probably the fifth vowel, not the first. Secondly, please start in your corporate boardroom, Mr Lack, regarding Mssrs Weinstein & Lauer.

You all should read the article written about Mr. Rogers that was in Esquire. Very touching.

Rather than messing with the legacy of Fred Rogers with a crappy movie. PBS should just rerun Mr. Rogers on its affiliates. The show is timeless. As an aside, back in the 70's I had a really crappy job and would come home angry. My wife would serve me a cocktail , then make me watch an episode of Mr Rogers Neighborhood before asking me about my day. I will tell you, Fred Rogers voice and demeanor worked better than Xanax. I would go to the dinner table calm and ready to start my day over.

As they cut our throats, they similtaneously call for "kindness and empathy".
I call "lock and load", in response.

If you never raised a child, you might not get Fred. He is NOT talking to adults, although he did film a series for adults, but that didn't hit the culture the way his PBS children's show did. His gift to our culture is to create one, small, space for young children that communicate to them at a level they can comprehend. No wise cracks, no smug adult mugging, no talking over their heads or slamming them in the face with adult problems. He DID talk to them about divorce, war, death, etc. but in a way that was gentle and understanding of how traumatic these things can be if portrayed as they usually are on TV. Often as a gross, shocking, violent, perverted form of entertainment. He dared to be different in a very low key, gentle, slow way that bothers some adults conditioned by life and TV to expect everything to be the opposite of an episode of Fred Rogers show.
If you can't be bothered to try and find out why Fred Rogers has had such an impact on children who grow up and THANK him for his message and his show, maybe you have the problem. Maybe you should try just a little bit of understanding about how different the world looks to a child under 7 or 8 years old.
After saying all that, I don't think I can get past Hanks 'acting' as Fred. The documentary said it all. I don't need a melodrama about some tortured soul writer getting in the way of a more important subject, which is young children are not miniature adults. They are finding their way in the world and we should be careful about how we push or lead them on the path to adulthood.

Sure is creative casting, though. From what I have read I believe Tom Hanks could be a pedo. I have seen several reports that affirm that belief.

Tom Hanks said Trump would be president right about the time flying saucers land and dinosaurs with red capes come out of them. Where are my red-caped dinosaurs, Hanks?
P.S. I'd rather watch a movie about Johnnie Costa, the pianist for Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.

The Left says conservatives should be kind to everyone, especially them. And kindness, for the Left, is letting them do and say whatever they want to us, including insulting us, lying about us, lying to us, and forcing us to do their bidding. Anytime they are challenged, we are at least verbally tarred and feathered. There is no acknowledgment that persons of good will can actually differ in opinions and still deserve respect. I loathe the Left in government and the media. Being kind to them lands you on a cross with nails in your hands. I am not going to be their sacrificial lamb.

Unfortunately, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood would not be the same if were still around today. Yes it would still be friendly and kind. It would also have (per current PBS and other cultural requirements) to have LGBTQ characters, mixed race couples, and all of the other PC stuff that is being force fed to children today. It would not necessarily be the genuine kindness that the show worked so hard to teach everyone; it would be forced so that it could be "inclusive".

If you raised children when Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood was on TV, you would “get” Mr. Rogers. He had a calming way that touched the whole family and a way of accepting everyone. We could all benefit by having a TV show like this today. It’s a shame some can’t get past the politics of Tom Hanks and maybe seeing a movie about a good Christian man.
