Wayne LaPierre, the embattled chief executive of the National Rifle Association, banked a 57 percent pay hike last year—amid the din of calls for him to retire, a report said. The nonprofit group’s latest tax filings show LaPierre received a base salary of $1.3 million, plus a bonus of $455,000 and “other reportable compensation” of more than $427,000, The Washington Post reported Friday. LaPierre, 70, also received an additional $73,793 in “retirement and other deferred compensation” and “nontaxable benefits” from the NRA and related entities, according to the filings. LaPierre’s pay increase was revealed at a time when the gun-rights group

That's why I no longer give to the NRA, seems to be all about enriching Lapierre.

OP and #1: don't believe ANYTHING you read in ANY New York newspaper about the NRA. Think about what's happened since 1980, and all the battles gun owners had to fight to preserve their rights. Consider the successful concealed carry movement across the country. NONE of it would have happened without Wayne LaPierre. I don't care that they pay him a million bucks a year; he should have been getting that for the last 20 years. Who else but LaPierre and the NRA would have gotten it done? Nobody, that's who.
I'm still a member, and I still send them money. Who else is fighting for your Second Amendment rights? THE NRA is alone on the battlefield. Stand with them, or be prepared to lose the fight.

CEO Wayne LaPierre made the NRA into the powerhouse it is today. He is worth every penny he is paid and more. Hang in there, only those that want to weaken this potent organization want you out.

Ollie North thought that there was a problem with him and Ollie's gone. So is my money to them.

This guy makes a pretty good living for , among other things, adding a couple of bushels of paper trash to my can every year. And , yes, I 'm a member. That doesn't mean that I want to bankroll one of the 1000 or so worker's salaries and benefits it must take every day to send out their mountain of begging paper. They sure do have a pretty offices in DC, though.

It seems to happen to very many organizations set up to promote or defend some cause. Over time the cause becomes less and less important while the money and prestige become more and more the real aim. The siren call of wealth and pride are all too rarely resisted. I have belonged to the NRA but left years ago as they displayed more of a desire to compromise the right than to fight staunchly in its defense. There are other groups out there more worthy of our money.

They just aren't getting it are they? This guy is an albatross around the neck of a great organization, and he needs to go. He also needs to start paying back all the NRA funds he may have been unethically steering to himself for his personal expenses. That stuff is going to paint the whole organization with the nastiest and most broad brush imaginable. Go away Wayne, you are toxic.

Seems excessive to me but it's the organization's money - not public funds. I expect to continue my membership on a year to year basis and see where it goes.
Much more important is linked in the column: 'Carry Guard insurance provided gun owners as much as $150,000 for their legal bills if they were arrested for a shooting and claimed it was done in self-defense. New York state prohibits insurance that protects potential criminal activity.'

Airing dirty laundry in public, and doing like #1 only helps them to take away our guns, which WILL be the end of our freedom.

While I think his compensation is overly generous, he does more for his money than that race baiting Al 'Tawana' Sharpton does for his million plus a year. The constant mailings get tiresome, along with the requests to 'extend' my membership. But I cherish my 2nd amendment rights, so whenever my membership actually comes due, I weigh renewing it and act accordingly. Like any charity or organization that you send money to, once you decide to send it, it's theirs to do with as they please.
