A State Department aide testifying behind closed doors on Friday confirmed to House impeachment investigators that he overheard President Trump asking a top U.S. diplomat about political investigations that he was seeking from the president of Ukraine. The official, David Holmes, was the aide mentioned Wednesday by William Taylor, the acting U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, as having overheard a phone call between Gordon Sondland, the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, and Trump. According to Taylor's testimony, a member of his staff — later identified as Holmes — was with Sondland in Kiev when he overheard Sondland speaking to Trump on July

Trump needs to take everybody off his calls. I can't take much more of having to listen to what they think they heard.

Can't decide whether David Holmes looks more like Jeffrey Dahmer or just another liberal suckophantic homo from the State Department.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

And apparently in spite of Trumps arm twisting no Ukrainian investigation has come to pass. And so Trump doesn't care about Ukraine. Trump despite a glitch or two has provided the military aid that Obama refused when the Ukraine was under attack by Russia. Obama cared enough about Ukraine to hand it off, lock stock and barrel, to Joe Biden.
And PS so far including the whole whistleblower thing this is trial by gossip for an as yet undetermined "crime".

If it was behind closed doors, how do we know what he really said?

Except the President of Ukraine says his country was never asked to investigate. Really hope the Trump Justice Department goes after all these people that are lying under oath. These people that are lying under oath think they are protected. They are not, and they need to realize that.

It doesn't matter what Sondland discussed with Trump about the investigations since the Ukrainian President and Foreign minister both publicly confirmed that their was no pressure or linkage associated with the release of the aid. The final decision made by the President was to release the funds without any contingent act on the part of the Ukrainians. Asking for a legal investigation into corruption regarding the 2016 election is a legal responsibility of the President regardless of whether it subsequently benefits him or the other Democrat candidates in the 2020 election. How does he know that it wouldn't show that Biden was a big corruption fighter like the media believes and improve his election chances? The investigation would be coordinated through AG Barr so Trump would have no access to the information unless Barr made it public. The evidence that Giuliani discovered including the testimony of the prosecutor Shokin was acquired months before Biden even announced his candidacy so it could not have been politically motivated.

Does Trump have to care about Ukraine? And if he doesn't (in someone's view), is that something that should be "investigated" in public hearings? Isn't it detrimental to our country's relationship with Ukraine to have these offhand comments made public? How will this affect our relations with other countries if everything said is fair game for Congress to investigate? Congress doesn't have any role in our diplomatic relations with foreign countries. This is a runaway train that apparently cannot be shut down.

Assuming there was a so called quid pro quo, assuming that Trump withheld funds unless the Bidens were investigated, is that a high crime and misdemeanor? No. It could equally be described as prudent oversight of government funds and a legitimate investigation of corruption.

"said the call was loud enough to hear through the phone earpiece"
What does that weirdly (which usually means written by a lawyer) worded phrase mean?
Was an earpiece being used?
This is more b.s.

FTA:
Holmes also acknowledged that he didn't take contemporaneous notes, but said he has "a clear recollection that these statements were made."
Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., who attended a portion of Holmes' deposition Friday, said Holmes had "some pretty specific quotes from the phone call by the president."

Um, why would the President allow people to be on his calls, and then say things he shouldn't be saying? POTUS needs to abolish his National Security Counsel and start afresh.

Oh, and by the way, the NSA has FULL recordings of this call (and every call coming from/going to the White House (well duh!)) which can be pulled up by the President at the appropriate time with the click of a finger. The POTUS needs to start suing these liars and miscreants with full Federal power and using HIS power as Chief Executive to protect the Executive Branch from overreach by a corrupt and antagonistic Legislative Branch...

If Holmes heard the phone call why did he need to ask Sonderland how Trump felt about Ukraine? Does Sonderland not know that there is a volume control on his phone? To Sonderlan's assertion that Trump doesn't give a **** about Ukraine and only cares about the Biden investigation, why did Trump give them weapons when Obama did not? I guess Obama gave less than a **** about Ukraine.

Pretty low life listening in to a telephone call that was intended for someone else. Clearly someone should ask why anyone should be receiving a telephone call from the President of the USA in a foreign public restaurant?

I can't take much more of a 'watchdog' media take in all the hearsay without any remark about the inadmissibility of hearsay as 'evidence'.
The MSM-Democrat collusion has been the main corruption at work, and everything else since 2016 has been wag-the-dog crap.

DC could not survive a week without quid pro quo ...Lobbyists would be unemployed & the politicians would be on welfare.
