The ‘Whistleblower’ and Rep. Adam Schiff should

As House Democrats begin the public phase of their impeachment hearings into President Donald Trump this week — over a presidential phone call to Ukraine — I’m forced to use a dirty word. If you melt easily, please cover your eyes and ears, or clutch your pearls and gird yourself. Here comes that dirty word: To a politician, “fairness” is nothing more than a shiv, to be slipped between the ribs with a smile. Politics is never fair. It’s not about who deserves what. Politics is the hand, and government is the club in that hand.

The 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall takes me back 31 years — to an afternoon in the summer of 1988, when Amity Shlaes entered my office in Brussels and said we needed to talk. We’d been married the month before and were working together on the Wall Street Journal’s editorial page in Europe. I looked up from my desk as Amity did something unusual. She closed the door behind her. Then she turned and announced, in a loud whisper, “It’s over.”The 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall takes me back 31 years — to an afternoon in the summer of 1988,

The latest college football polls were released Sunday afternoon, and LSU is sitting at the top.(snip)Obviously, it’s not surprising at all that LSU is at the top of the polls. Now they’re not at the top of the playoff rankings, but that could change Tuesday. After beating Alabama in epic fashion, you’d be foolish to not view the Tigers as a top two team. Right now, the voters clearly think they’re better than Ohio State.

Justice Clarence Thomas scoffed at 2020 Democratic front-runner former Vice President Joseph R. Biden recalling his confirmation hearing nearly three decades ago, suggesting Mr. Biden didn’t have a grasp of the law and was just playing politics. “I have no idea what he was talking about,” Justice Thomas said in a new documentary about his life, detailing his childhood and rise to the Supreme Court. The legal questioning from Mr. Biden, who at the time was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and running the confirmation hearings, was aimed at Justice Thomas‘ views on Roe v. Wade, the ruling which legalized abortion in 1973. “One of the things

Like a lot of wronged women, Monica Lewinsky now is reassessing her “affair” with Bill Clinton through the lens of the MeToo movement. It was “an abuse of power … 100 percent,” she said Saturday night in a speech in Australia. The former White House intern, who was just 22 when the president seduced her, said she had “clung so steadfastly to this notion that [it] was a real, consensual relationship, [but] as we started to have public conversations that were different about consent, as we started to recognize abuse of power in different ways, these structures started to crumble around powerful men who have been able

NBC, ABC and CBS News have all now appeared to run cover for some of the world’s most powerful rape rings, allegedly killing stories and firing employees who tried to expose the outlets. As three of America’s biggest networks, these outlets have each become embroiled in controversy in 2019 following multiple separate reports that they have played a part in covering up some of the world’s most powerful rape and pedophile rings. The allegations range from killing entire stories outing disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, shutting down an interview detailing accusations against alleged child sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and firing an employee who might have tried to hold an outlet responsible.

Last month, President Trump visited my hometown of Chicago to speak at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference. Sadly, the city’s top cop, Superintendent Eddie Johnson, skipped his event that day in protest. But he, and Chicago’s mayor, Lori Lightfoot, should have attended to hear some hard truths. Trump has been criticizing Chicago leadership since 2016 for allowing the violence to become one of the worst in the world, earning the title in 2015 as America’s mass-shooting capital, and he continued to highlight Chicago’s problems during the conference. In response, Chicago’s mayor suggested Trump focus on his issues in DC, and the liberal press touted

Yonel Dorelis considers himself one of the luckiest guys in the world. Dorelis, 58, has served in four branches of the military -- the Marine Corps, Navy, Army and Air Force. His career presented opportunities he never knew existed, affording him the chance to succeed or fail on his own terms. He traveled the world and quickly learned to appreciate what a great country the United States is. "And it's because of this country we live in -- if you can dream it, you can try it," he told Fox News. "We have it pretty good here. I'm a lucky guy."

A caravan of members of a Mormon offshoot sect crossed into Arizona on Saturday after fleeing Mexico following this week's drug cartel ambush that killed nine Americans. The Arizona Daily Star reported that 18 vehicles carrying about 100 people entered the U.S. via the port of entry in Douglas, Ariz. Bryce Langford, whose mother, Dawna Ray Langford, was one of the women killed Monday, told the Daily Star he was on his way to visit his brother at a hospital in Tucson. He said most of the families are traveling to Phoenix, and others are heading to Tucson. They are not sure where they will settle down in the long term.

Sean Spicer is cruising through “Dancing with the Stars” on two left feet. He’s certainly not surviving on the merits of his dancing, and I’m not sure it’s his natural charm, either. So what’s the deal with Spicey’s surge? It’s Trump, of course. For one thing, the president of the United States has been using his leader-of-the-free-world sized platform to get out the vote. That helps. But it’s also the affiliation. For many, a vote for Spicer is a vote for Trump, and sometimes a vote for Trump is a vote against the haters. Who, exactly, are the haters? The show’s host. The judges. ABC News staffers. The New York Times’

Donald Trump Jr. outed Eric Ciaramella as the whistleblower this week as much as I presently out Mark Felt as Deep Throat. But it advances the narrative to say that he did, so fake news — an apt if overused description for outlets that do not let facts get in the way of a good story — report that he did. “I cannot express the horrifying impact of @DonaldJTrumpJr and @BreitbartNews to expose the whistleblower for pure retribution,” reporter Kurt Eichenwald tweeted. A Vanity Fair headline read, “Of Course Donald Trump Jr. Outed the Alleged Whistle-Blower.” Even a Drudge Report headline screams, “Junior Outs the Whistleblower.” That another Drudge headline,

But sharing it with Project Veritas? Nope, wasn’t her. If the firing offense here was supposedly airing a network’s dirty laundry — not her current network’s laundry, mind you, but ABC’s — then Bianco was wrongfully terminated. Assuming she’s telling the truth. Coincidentally, Project Veritas published a post a few hours ago apparently written by its source entitled, “Why I, alone, released the Amy Robach Epstein tape.” It appears to corroborate Bianco’s

SAN FRANCISCO – Fix global warming or cook dinner on a gas stove? That’s the choice for people in 13 cities and one county in California that have enacted new zoning codes encouraging or requiring all-electric new construction. The codes, most of them passed since June, are meant to keep builders from running natural gas lines to new homes and apartments, with an eye toward creating fewer legacy gas hookups as the nation shifts to carbon-neutral energy sources. For proponents, it's a change that must be made to fight climate change. For natural gas companies, it's a threat to their

Oxford professor Nicola Gardini urges people to read and study Latin. He believes that Latin is the antidote for the modern age, which seems transfixed by the spontaneous, the easy, and the ephemeral. His new book, Long Live Latin: The Pleasures of a Useless Language, argues that Latin combines truth and beauty with the timelessness of art. People should study Latin for all the reasons people should read literature. In his Confessions, St. Augustine (354–430 C.E.) “placed the learning of Latin under God’s purview,” Gardini writes. Augustine believed Latin drew a child closer to God, “the truest truth.” Gardini argues that Latin contains the logic and precision of math

Seattle Times columnist Danny Westneat recently wrote: “In terms of carbon emissions that lead to global warming, there’s probably nothing worse we can do on an individual basis than take an intercontinental flight.” Apparently, he was mistaken. Shortly thereafter, The Times published University of Washington Professor Emeritus Stephen Warren’s reply to Mr. Westneat: “Actually, there is something worse. Having a child.” According to an article on the website Campus Reform, Professor Warren suggested that average children add the carbon equivalent of 2,700 round-trip flights from Seattle to Europe to their parents’ carbon legacy. He continued: “By choosing to reproduce, you’re responsible for some fraction of the carbon-dioxide emissions of your

On Saturday, San Francisco voters elected the son of two former Weather Underground murderers to serve as their District Attorney. The voters deserve all the hell that is about to break loose. Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert were terrorists in the Weather Underground who murdered two police officers and a security guard during a 1981 robbery of a Brinks armored security car outside New York City.

Though The View has been on television since 1997 and its numerous hosts have come and gone, it is a mystery as to who watches it. In its formative years, it may have been watchable, even occasionally newsworthy; Barbra Walters was an actual journalist. Now, from the clips that are picked up and aired by other news outlets, it has clearly devolved into a slugfest -- vicious, leftist women attack their guests if remotely conservative. There is zero respect for any guest with a politically incorrect opinion. They slobbered over Chelsea Clinton as if she were the Queen of England and attacked Donald Trump Jr.
