As we all pause on Monday to honor the brave men and women who spend their lives protecting our freedom and security at home and abroad, I wanted to take time to also honor a man who has spent much of his life helping them. Gary Sinise, who many of you may know for his portrayal of Vietnam veteran Lieutenant Dan in Oscar-winning film "Forrest Gump," has devoted more than 40 years to supporting and advocating for America’s veterans. Having veterans in his own family, he grew up aware of the unique challenges that they face when they return from serving the country.

I've always felt like Gary Sinise caught the baton tossed by Bob Hope. Our service members, veterans and country are richly blessed by this good man. May God continue to bless him and all those he serves.

His Charity is one of the few totally honest ones, that you can contribute to and know that all the money will go to the charity, not some administrators pocket.

It would be so great if we could have more men like Gary Sinise, and his counterparts on the distaff side, take the place of all those in Congress who are leaving to "spend more time with their family".
Mr. Sinise has this own extraordinary vocation, and that's what it is, but the military is a great fraternity/sorority and there should be a full-court press to fill our Congress with people who know that politics can be a noble profession. If George Soros can empty his pockets to support people throughout our land to get into office, why can't some of our billionaire conservatives and just the plain folk group together and pool their resources to do the same. All those retired military that Obama eased out of service might like to accept a new mission.
And a Happy Veterans' Day to all who've served!

Some only give it lip service once a year, and then there are those like Gary Sinise.

Met Gary Sinise and shook his hand on the deck of a PT boat being restored at the WWII Museum here in New Orleans. He was with a WWII vet he flew in to tour the Museum. He brought these vets to the museum on a regular basis, but now he's limited by the health of the older vets.

There is one Vietnam person, an earlier love of many servicemen, at least I was one of them. Who? Chris Noel, the "Voice of Vietnam", who I would even hear while stationed in England over Armed Forces Radio. She had a unique voice that made one wish they could be her #1.
