Eco madness may be reason for

When Swedish eco-pessimist Greta Thunberg came to New York to shout, “How dare you!” last month, she maintained her climate purity by traveling on a carbon-neutral, solar-powered yacht. Now that she’s in Canada, the teen doomsayer hasn’t explained how she’ll travel 4,000 miles home to Sweden without flying.(Snip) But in order to achieve its green goal, Boeing had to use much bigger engines that didn’t fit in the usual position under the wing of the repurposed, 53-year-old 737 design. The engines had to be moved forward and hoisted higher. As a result, the aerodynamics changed,

Comments:

Interesting take: Boeing rushed a redesign that rendered the aircraft prone to pitching and stalling, which was supposed to be addressed by software that didn't quite work. All this to chase Green hysteria for cleaner aircraft, despite aircraft accounting for only 2% of greenhouse emissions worldwide.

Same kind of ecological concerns caused that apartment building in London to go up in an inferno. There have also been other problems with using eco-friendly materials instead of tried-and-true materials, like in NASA explosion and, if I recall correctly, the WTC.

Finally, we're getting down to the crux of it - eco-terrorist influence. Who runs Boeing anyway? Some eco-terrorist?

This was an engineering failure, with nothing to do with the environment. Like fitting a V-8 engine to a buggy in place of the horse.

#5, it may be an engineering failure, but if you read the article, it was because of environmental reasons that Boeing used those engines. (Actually, the reason behind it all was money; the bottom line!)

There are always "pressures" on businesses in producing their products. Somewhere along the line they REALIZED they had designed a plane that did NOT fly correctly. Their choice was to "fix" it with software which itself is flawed. Somewhere, someone should have been screaming that you should NOT build a plane that, left to its own design, will crash. A company that builds aircraft should have been repelled by such a creation and gone back to the drawing board. Consider also that the WTO awarded that the U.S. can hit EU with $7.5 billion In tariffs over Airbus subsidies. This unfair competition contributed to the pressure on Boeing to produce a competitive product. It's nice that we got the award but the damage has already been done and some of it is in the costs of lives.

Stick shakers and pushers connected to Stall Warning Computers have been around over the last 40 years. Where this design went wrong was a SINGLE Angle of Attack Sensor and an urge to keep a "Common Type Rating" for the pilots of 737 platforms from -300 to -700 to MAX. Really stoopid idea, since the MAX is a full fly by wire cockpit.

Increasing the efficiency of engines is not necessarily a crazy environmentalist boondoggle.

London—Climate activist Greta Thunberg has a tiny new namesake. London’s Natural History Museum said Friday that a minute species of beetle is being named “Nelloptodes gretae” in honor of the 16-year-old Swede. Michael Darby, a scientific associate at the museum who found the insect in its collection of millions of animal specimens, chose the name to acknowledge her “outstanding contribution” to raising awareness of environmental issues. The beetle is less than 1 millimeter long and has no eyes or wings. It belongs to a 1960s collection from samples of soil and leaf litter in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi,
