FBI chases down increasing
number of Chinese nationals

A federal judge last week sentenced a Chinese national to nearly four years in prison for trying to steal U.S. space technology, the latest corporate spy snared by an FBI that has ramped up protection of American businesses amid President Trump’s trade war with Beijing. Over the past year, the Justice Department has brought public charges against Chinese nationals and entities in 10 separate trade secret cases.(Snip) Among the guilty pleas reviewed by The Times was one from Tao Li, 39, a Chinese national sentenced Friday for conspiring to steal “highly sensitive” electronic components that can withstand significant levels of radiation

Comments:

Theft of intellectual property is how China operates, which is why birth tourism is so important to them. Companies roll the dice on foreign workers/spies because they work cheap. Given this, companies that put our nation's military secrets at risk (hello, Bernard Schwartz of Loral) should have their executives tossed in prison, and those that have consumer goods secrets stolen should be billed for the cost of the investigations.

OP is correct. We need to stop trusting Chinese born in China with anything more secret than Grandma's cookie recipe, because it has become clear that "the Chinese" have absolutely NO ethics, none. Oh, I'm sure you can rummage around and locate an exception that proves the rule, but as a culture, China and the Chinese have been ethics free for thousands of years. And that is their fundamental, root cause, weakness as a culture. Christianity, even though the leaders of Europe often only pretended to follow it, was the root cause for the goodness and the advancement that the Europeans built after the Roman Empire collapsed and was overrun by barbarians. In general, Christianity hasn't made much of an inroad into China, and they are massively poorer, financially and morally, and ethically for it. Never trust a Chinaman at all.

Close to a thousand anti-police protesters descended on Downtown Brooklyn Friday night, blocking traffic, vandalizing a city bus and shouting obscene insults at NYPD cops. The demonstration formed soon after 7 p.m. on the streets near the Barclays Center, with protesters unfurling large banners that read “F—k the police” and “Don’t let these pigs touch us.” The crowd began dispersing by 9 p.m. The demonstration was in response to a planned crackdown on fare evasion by the NYPD—and two controversial police actions in Brooklyn subway stations in recent weeks. In one of the incidents, an NYPD cop sent straphangers scrambling

Washington—It’s not aways easy for Cory Booker to get through airport security these days. Booker uses a special powder to avoid razor bumps when he shaves, a problem that he says plagues black men. And that triggers the interest of Transportation Security Administration screeners whenever he boards an airplane. How do we know? It’s because he came clean in an interview with Cosmopolitan magazine. “There’s something called Magic Shaving Powder, which a lot of black men use,” Booker told the magazine. “So I shave with this stuff, which you mix the powder up, which always gets me stopped in security lines

Right now, roughly 130,000 Californians are homeless, and millions more are shelling out far more in rent than they can afford, commuting into expensive cities from faraway suburbs and towns, or doubling up in houses and apartments. Wildfires and lack of affordable housing—these are two of the most visible and urgent crises facing California, raising the question of whether the country’s dreamiest, most optimistic state is fast becoming unlivable. During the 2018 midterms, dozens of “moderate” Democrats won House seats in swing districts by forswearing partisan feuds in order to concentrate on the needs of their constituents. They pledged to focus less on conflict than on finding common ground with their Republican colleagues. They also modulated their comments concerning President Trump and, when the subject of impeachment arose, they insisted that it would be a destructive and unproductive exercise. Thursday, however, all but two voted in favor of a hyper-partisan impeachment resolution, exposing their campaign promises as cynical lies and ensuring that the Democrats will lose their House majority in 2020.
