As a one-time college professor, I’ve been attempting to answer a torrent of questions via Quora from prospective students looking for help in the admissions process and advice as they plan their upcoming college majors and degree programs. Some of these questions are silly and unanswerable. Others, those involving the choice of a college major and the likely job prospects in such an area, are crucial. Practically speaking, making the right, not the emotional, choice here will determine whether the student will earn enough to pay off his or her absurdly high college loan debt; or be consigned forever to the dismal hell of sharecropping one’s way through life.

Wall street isn't for everyone.
CAD, computer aided design, a subset of STEM. But also Trade/Technical schools. Plumbers, welders, find a niche you'll like.
Long range if you plan right, start your own business. Lots of people willing to help. Introduce yourself to a banker or two, ask your (capitalist) professors, and this may sound strange but join Toastmasters and learn how to speak in front of an audience. My .02.

A lot of students don't belong in college. That's how the country was saddled with all these 'studies'. If your not college material, consider the trades. You'll have a job for life and you'll never be out of work. If anything, you'll have too much work and can pick and choose. The biggest mistake public schools made was getting rid of shop classes.

We NEED people to go into the trades. Nothing works, nothing is built, nothing is repaired, no architectural plans, no electrical circuit schematics, no
plumbing, no water; no mechanics, the cities stop functioning. Without skilled carpenters our houses and workplaces aren't built; all the arts need builders to erect museums and music halls for their treasures to be displayed; technicians keep airplanes in the air and landing safely...
Well, there's a whole lot more. But work, this noble work blesses and protects our lives and makes things easier, more pleasant, efficient and beautiful.
A lot of it is dirty, very arduous and tedious, and not glamorous. But we sure do need them, and we really, really appreciate the work they do. The person with a degree in gender studies most likely will be a meddlesome busybody, but the people with trade skills will improve our lives on a daily basis.

If your chosen Major has the word “studies” associated with it, you just screwed yourself.

#6, THAT is another absolutely guaranteed to succeed education path. And a wonderful contribution to society, too.

Astute and valuable advice. Kids choose the "studies" fluff because the average moron can pass these courses by knowing how to write at an eighth grade level and have the ability to form an idea with minimal thought or from TV viewing. That's because their professors usually operate at the same level. Your proudest day after you pass those courses will be graduation day. It's all downhill from there unless you become a teacher and continue the cycle.

If you want to come out of college with a workable degree, one of the fields would be language. Biggest languages in the world are Chinese, French, English and Spanish. But you'd need to be fluent.
I suspect Arabic and its various dialects could get you into the government... along with Chinese.

I can answer this problem without even reading the sad Commie story.
Degrees in BS studies are worthless, get rid of them.
We need people with the ability to think (fire all the Commie Professors, for a start)!
Get rid of all courses that don't teach a REAL MARKETABLE SKILL...GOT IT!
