President Trump faced criticism on social media and from journalists after claiming the United States has a "shared political and cultural history" with Italy because of ancient Rome.
During a press conference with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Trump noted that Italy and the U.S. are bound together through shared ties to the ancient city, saying, "The United States and Italy are bound together by a shared cultural and political heritage dating back thousands of years to ancient Rome."
The Founding Fathers of the U.S. had a well-documented affinity for the Roman republic, evidence of which is prevalent in American representative government and civic architecture.

The founding fathers examined all of human history and did a magnificent job of picking bast practices and adding their own new input from lessons learned. It just so happens that a great deal came from Rome.
I suppose that's offensive to the democrats who have been sacking the US sure as the Vandals sacked Rome.

If you look at a map of NY State, you will find a substantial number of cities and villages with Roman names.
Just for starters, Syracuse, Utica, Meridian, …
Is there even one damned thing DJT could say, that the dimocrats (who act like an almost ex wife) would not criticize? JFK said, Ich ben Eine Berliner.
If DJT said that, the world would collapse.

Let's see - many of our major government buildings in D.C. were influenced by Greek and Roman temple design. We have a Senate like the Roman Republic did. Our national motto is in Latin. One of the drafters of the Constitution described the new government as "a republic, if you can keep it...." We may not have much in common with modern Italy, but clearly our roots are in Classical Rome and Greece.

If you look at some of the art in the buildings in Washington DC, you will see George Washington attired in a toga. One of the societies founded after the American Revolution was the Society of the Cincinnati named after Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus who was considered a paragon of civic virtue. Of course we have shared ties with ancient Rome.
They just don't teach history any more.

That's what you get when you use ''social media'' -- an oxymoron if ever there was one. Where do the dummies think we got such a foundation? The Inca, Persian or Chinese cultures? Hardly! President Trump and I must have been in different grades together since I have a few years on him. Agree with #1 above. If PDJT were seen walking on water, he'd be arrested for trespass.

The critics are too uneducated to know that Thomas Jefferson, in particular, was a fan of ancient Rome, and was learned in the Latin and Greek languages. George Washington, too, knew his Latin

Someday, when History is once again taught in our schools, rather that Social Justice Studies, We will once again realize where the roots of our Republic came from.
I am old enough to have been taught Ancient History in school, so PDJT's statement reflects the conclusion of classes I attended.

We are a democratic REPUBLIC
c. 1600, "state in which supreme power rests in the people via elected representatives," from Latin respublica (ablative republica) "the common weal, a commonwealth, state, republic," literally res publica "public interest, the state," from res "affair, matter, thing" (see re) + publica, fem. of publicus "public" (see public (adj.)).
So Trump knows his history.Guess and Dems don't even know how to operate a dictionary.

The Founding Fathers of the U.S. indeed had a well-documented affinity for the Roman republic.
After winning the Revolutionary War in 1783, many people wanted to make General George Washington King. He refused, resigned his commission, and returned to civilian life at Mount Vernon. He was following the example set by Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus.
In 458 Cincinnatus was appointed dictator of Rome in order to rescue a consular army that was surrounded by the Aequi on Mount Algidus. At the time of his appointment he was working a small farm. Cincinnatus maintained his authority only long enough to bring Rome through the emergency. He then resigned and returned to his farm.
This is one example of what President Trump was talking about. President Trump’s critics show their ignorance
BTW - The city of Cincinnati, Ohio is name in honor of Cincinnatus.
