My needs for iPhones are modest: the ability to take and receive calls, including video calls; a good quality camera; access to a very small number of apps; and enough memory to make it all work. That’s it. My iPhone 6 does the job. I don’t need 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or any of their variants. In fact, my iPhone 5 was adequate. I have 6 only because one of my brothers gifted it to me. Shortly after an automatic software update, my iPhone 6 could receive calls and texts only on my home network or other local wi-fi spots.

I've never used an Apple or MacIntosh product. Far too proprietary and next to Google far too invasive.

This is a really dumb article, the author seems unaware that there are Android phones out there that do everything and more that a stupid Apple product does. I'm not fond of Google, but you can make an Android do about anything you want it to without having to go through Apple every time you want something done.

I used an Apple II for a bit, owned by my sister. By the time the Macintosh came out, their extreme controls and "Our way or the highway" had turned me off a LOT, and the freedom, approaching anarchy (in a good way) of the PC platforms ended my interest in Apple products.
I have since used a iPad once, helping a friend, and my wife did the same. Our response after a bit of use was ANGER at the inability to do a number of things that we could simply and easily do on our Windows or even Android products.
I have zero use for Apple and have never agreed with their digital fascism approach to computers.

Agreed, #2. Apple is a real racket, no fan of Google, in fact I despise the company, but Samsung Android devices let us do what we want, pretty much the way we want to do it.

Thirty years ago there was a story going around about Apple, specifically the Mac:
A college English Professor had his students indicate on their submitted essays whether they used an Apple or a Windows computer. The Professor then compared the quality (vocabulary, composition, structure) of the essays and found that the ones that were done on a Windows computer were far better than the ones done on an Apple.
What he couldn't figure out was whether dumber students used Apples, or if using an Apple made you dumber.

I have an Iphone 8 plus. I took it to the Verizon store for some minor problems that they easily fixed for me. In talking with the Rep, I said this seems to always happen after an update. He said, DON'T do the updates. He said they're really to fit with the newer 10 or up, so all they do with the older phones, my 8, is mess things up. So, I won't do updates anymore because I truly believe he is right. That goes for my Laptop. Every time Windows does an update, NOTHING WORKS the way it did before!

This experience brings back many fond memories of hours on the phone with Microsoft people. I was often involved in networking computers, printers and various other devices. Every time I had things working just right, another Windows fix or upgrade would break the network and set me back to square one. Questions about upgrading something without disconnecting everything else went unanswered. Now I talk and text occasionally on my phone and I certainly don't need an $800 Apple phone to do it.
Mention of Verizon brought back another memorable occasion. My wife had Verizon phone coverage for about five years after signing the usual two-year contract. She called one day to ask a question and found out a few weeks later that Verizon had automatically renewed her contract for another two years. She dropped it immediately and took the hit on collection calls and on her credit rating. Screw them. I don't know if that was standard policy or some snowflake snuck in the upgrade to earn some commission but we haven't used Verizon since. Now we use Straight Talk, no contract, no ridiculously high prices.

#5, Thank you! That explains why the majority of school teachers and lawyers insist on using Apple computers.

All I know is that most people who use Apple computers seem to be liberal. Years ago I sat in on a committee who were deciding how to upgrade a language lab from cassette tapes to computers. I naturally recommended that we purchase PC compatible computers that I could work on, had color monitors, could be upgraded with more memory whenever we wanted, and would run shareware or freeware software. Every other liberal professor on the committee liked apple computers, so naturally... They bought expensive apple computers with apple software, with monochrome monitors, for double or triple the price. I was not allowed to open the case for upgrade or repair. We had to find very expensive "apple certified" technicians to do anything.
Personal computers and android devices have become much more reliable in the past years, and they were always much cheaper. Don't know why apple hasn't gone out of business. (and I'm still mad about them building their headquarters where the Cupertino orchard of my youth used to be)
