President Trump on Monday defended his decision to pull U.S. troops out of northeast Syria, saying he is keeping his pledge to get Americans out of “endless wars.” Mr. Trump was pushing back on critics from both parties, who said his move would be a recipe for disaster and put American-backed Kurdish-led fighters in danger. “I was elected on getting out of these ridiculous endless wars, where our great Military functions as a policing operation to the benefit of people who don’t even like the USA,” he said on Twitter. Mr. Trump’s surprise announcement late Sunday evening came as

I won't say 'good'. I will say 'necessary'. It was a 'no win'. And not the only one.

President Trump is right, he was elected by the American people to withdraw the US from the “endless” Middle East wars. Common sense will tell you that ISIS will not be able to reestablish itself in the areas of Syria that will be occupied by the Turkish Armed Forces as the Turks will be much more brutal against ISIS then the US forces could ever be. The Kurds have been fighting the Turks since before the beginning of the modern era with no end in sight, so if the US forces stay there it could be for an “endless” period of time. In the long run it might well be better for the Kurds if they negotiate with Turkey to end their “endless” war. As Trump said, if Turkey double crosses the USA, the USA has the means to make the Turkish economy pay dearly and you can bet that Turkey knows that.

Good. We don't need to be there. There are plenty of other things our military can be doing. Like being here in their own country for a change.

I so agree with the wise posters here. Trump is right but the media is painting him as a lunatic, of course. The GOP establishment‘s fury (led by Miss Lindsey) is off the rails, of course, as the endless wars have served the military industrial complex’s interests beautifully. Lindsey serves those who keep his bank account happy just like Mike Lee pushes endless green cards for HIS masters, the tech companies in his state.
Thank you President Trump. May God grant him great wisdom.

God bless the Kurds. They've been with us every step of the way but #2 Is right. To throw more troops into the mix - in direct confrontation with Turkey - would have the potential to start WW3. I'm sure there's more to the story so I'm trusting the CinC's decision.

Excellent move! If Syria was all that important, all of its young men would not have fled the country to become a burden on the US and half of Europe. When their grandchildren ask them what they did in the big war, all they can say is that they abandoned their families to become refugees, but since they are cowardly muslims they will lie about it.

Good, God bless him.
We have southern borders (especially), but northern borders as well, that need protection from drug and human trafficking gangs. So many homeless in our democrat cities So many wounded warriors who fought in other people's wars whose needs have to be taken care of. We have so many problems here at home that need to be addressed. I understand that we have been in Afghanistan for 17 years. Once in, the military are never allowed to get out, so the motive is not to win. There are other motives that we do not understand.

You know we've tried it there way and their way sucks. Maybe its time to try something new.

There's nothing "patriotic" about maintaining forces in Syria, or anywhere in the Middle East or Central Asia. It's most of two decades trying to build various "security forces" to take over from the Americans. Otherwise it has been various nations hiding behind the USA's skirts...that would include our NATO "allies". It's time to relegate this "Policeman of the World" role to the ash heap of history, and pursuing our own national interests. And that does not include engaging every despot over "human rights". As President George Washington said in his farewell, we are to serve as an example to the world, not go fight to right the wrongs.

TRUMP has done what no other modern president was capable of doing, confounding the war and anti-war factions in Washington simultaneously.
McCain's Republicans and Hillary's Arab Spring Democrats will never be allies so their machinations will come to nothing. Neither has a convincing message to the American public as to why we should continue to stay with ISIS defeated especially when there are others including Europe who have a greater stake than we do.
The world didn't end when we pulled out of Viet Nam and it certainly won't end pulling out of northern Syria.

PDT is correct. Can anyone think of anything in Syria that's worth saving with our blood and treasure? He's doing the right thing.

Zackly. The Turks/Kurds/Syrians want to kill each other ? Not my problem or my kids or grandkids who'd have to get shot at. If the North Koreans want to kill South Koreans, ditto. If the IRA wants to kill Englanders, ditto. and so on, and so on. Trump was elected to get out of endless (stupid, unnecessary) wars.

We've been in the Middle East since 2001 and those idiots still line up in front of the police station to fill out job applications and get gunned down or blown up en masse. They trade their allegiance at the drop of the hat because that's the Muslim way. If the governments of Iraq and Afghanistan have not figured out how to lead by now then why waste one more American life? I supported the initial entry into those regions but when it turned into nation building instead of military success my enthusiasm waned. I'd like to see the Afghan poppy fields burned and that farmland land poisoned before the troops pull out. Let them go back to the Stone Age and cut back on illegal drugs at the same time.

Does someone have to be "painted" by the media as anything when they tweet the following? “If Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey."

Were Trump a Democrat this would be celebrated by the "experts". They never liked so many wars as when Trump says it's time to leave.

Maybe Trump agrees with liberals that the presence of any American troops makes the religion of peace create more terrorists. Some things I will never understand. Liberals shourld be happy that Trump is bringing them home. Just like liberals should have been happy when HW Bush decided to raise taxes back in his swamp dwelling days.

Good. Endless, serving to weaken the USA by straining our resources, but more importantly, very profitable for some.
