Send in the Republicans to save the day. Or in this case, the state. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson toured Los Angeles to get a first-hand view of the city’s homeless epidemic. His visit came after the state asked for federal money to help clean its disease-infested streets.Trump has been vocal about California’s disastrous situation, vowing something must be done to stop it. California Gov. Newsom seized the moment and fired off a letter to President Trump demanding more money — so the local government can fix what it created.
“California requests you immediately act to address the need for more housing options for the homeless,” the letter states.
CA is always touting themselves as being the 5th largest economy, IF was own country.
Well, that likely means they have plenty of $$$ to fix the problems but have chosen to spend money on other endeavors - maybe that train to nowhere wasn't such a good use of money after all.
California has 53 House members, only 7 are Republican, but if they truly wanted to do something they could push for the approval of USMCA, and maybe they would negotiate with the administration for some funds -- sounds like a win-win, right?
Problem, they don't want to give Trump any wins, especially if it helps the country, it seems.

I am so glad to see Trump and Carson tell it like it is!!
California politicians have refused to accept personal responsibility for the disaster caused by their inaction and failed policies, yet they6 want additional resources (money) from the federal government largely paid by taxpayers outside California.
Carson is a breath of fresh air in his direct approach; address the failures of your (California's) policies, then we will talk.

Re #1, with all respect, California is not doing that “touting”. It is a matter of statistical fact:
California's economy is so large, and has grown so quickly, that it is now the fifth-biggest in the world all by itself, according to US government data.
Figures released on Friday by the US Department of Commerce put California's effective GDP from 2017 at around $2.747 trillion. It said the state's economy grew by 3.4% in the past year.
That growth puts it ahead of the United Kingdom, which has a GDP of $2.625 trillion, according to data published last month by the International Monetary Fund.
If we had decent governing (as in management) in our state, if laws supported a decent civilization (including immigration laws and laws about vagrancy and other issues), if law enforcements’ hands weren’t tied, and if all the Liberals went back to where they came from, we would be just fine.
Some of our most notoriously troublesome politicians came to California from other states. Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Maxine Waters - to name a very few.
We have big problems. A shortage of Republican voters. And a shortage of good Republican candidates for office.
But the part about the economy is more than our “touting”…
If you check out the state-by-state records on which ones depend the most on the federal government you won’t find California at the top. If anything our federal tax dollars help to support other states.

As for the homeless, the plan to reunify them with families - many have expressed a desire to be reunified - is a good one. But it won’t solve the whole problem We cannot do anything about the fine year-round weather that brings them there, but we can shut down the largesse that allows them to stay.

Let Newsom fix his own problems. I don't want my tax dollars going to problems created by this state.

Seattle and Portland have similar problems with similar causes. I hope their pols (and even more, their voters) are paying close attention.

The driving force for Californias huge economy is of course Silicon Valley and all that runs off of it. Much of that is in for a huge reckoning when government regs catch up with the tech.

I want Trump to run for Governor of CA after his 2nd term in the WH is over. He would have the place cleaned up in one year.

If you want to see what Beto O'Rourke would be like in an executive leadership position (you don't), look no further than Gavin Newsom. Pampered, limp-wrist, rich boy leftist dilettante, with a top five-level most punchable face.

Newsom brags about having a ‘tax surplus’ then goes begging to the Feds for more taxpayer dollars. Get rid of your illegal immigrant problem and use your surplus to help Americans.

CA always wastes Fed money and they've completely caused the problem themselves - sanctuary cities for criminals; welfare for illegals; onerous regulations preventing building any housing...I could go on and on. Why should us taxpayers give CA more money so they can waste it and still not fix their own problems they created?
