In early August, a man with a semi-automatic weapon killed 22 people at an El Paso, Texas, Walmart, the year’s deadliest mass shooting so far. Beto O’Rourke, an El Paso native and presidential candidate, quickly returned to the area from the campaign trail. He attended vigils, met with survivors and family members, and gave raw interviews to the press. Pastor Frank Pomeroy didn’t like what he saw, and that was the day he decided to run for office. Pomeroy knows about mass shootings and their aftermaths. Pomeroy is the pastor at the Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church, and in November 2017, his 14-year-old daughter was one of 26 people killed

She’s baffled. We’re not. She thinks the gun shot itself. We know that criminals with guns shoot people. So does the father.

At the Battle of Cannae (216 BC) Hannibal killed around 50,000 Roman soldiers in one day. No assault rifles or firearms of any kind. Just swords, spears, a few elephants and a rotten personality. I grieve for anyone needlessly killed. But instead of morning the dead some want to exploit a tragedy to advance their political agenda. The main problem with gun control is it doesn't work. If it did I'd be for it. There are over 300 million firearms in private hands. You can't put the genie back into the bottle. If the bad people are armed I want to be armed. That just the world we live in.

Former Democratic senator Bob Torricelli said during a discussion of the Thursday's Democratic primary debate that voters will not support former Vice President Joe Biden because people don't want a "third Obama term." "We will not beat Donald Trump by playing it safe, in the margins, offering more of the same, or, to my friend Joe Biden, a third Barack Obama term," Torricelli said Friday on MSNBC. "People don't want—no matter how much they admire him—a third Obama term. They want something bold and different." Torricelli predicted that as the campaign rolls on, Biden will continue to lose support from Democrats as more voters migrate

There's nothing quite as unstable as a rigged, stolen election, and right now, California's ballot-harvested Orange County might just move to Republican hands in the upcoming election. According to a new internal poll cited by RealClearPolitics: The Democratic tidal wave that washed over California last fall turned Orange County blue, but there are hopeful signs for Republicans that the floodwaters are receding. A new poll shows top GOP recruit Michelle Steel (pictured) tied with first-term Democratic Rep. Harley Rouda, both pulling in 42% of active voters, with 16% undecided. Just 28% of the voters polled in the survey,

Although the Catholic Church teaches that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered" and cannot be approved under any circumstances, the Catholic Diocese of Basel, Switzerland has announced that it welcomes the new same-sex civil "marriage" plan the country is adopting. Further, the diocese said it is certianly willing to bless such "marriages" in a special ceremony, but not perform homosexual weddings. "We welcome the proposed regulations that give homosexual partnerships a stable and reliable legal coverage," said Hansruedi Huber, communications director for the diocese, as reported by ChurchMilitant.com.

Former Vice President Joe Biden added nine embarrassing moments to his ever-expanding list of campaign gaffes and blunders during the third Democrat primary debate in Houston, Texas, Thursday evening. Below is a list of moments where the 76-year-old Biden misspoke, went off on bizarre tangents, or seemingly lost control of his body. 1.) Biden referred to himself as a “Congressman” — but never served in the U.S. House of Representatives. Biden had this small brain freeze during a long-winded explanation of his position on criminal justice.

Democratic presidential candidates have gone so far off the rails that they are now even fabricating their records to promote policies so far to the left that they are at odds with many former top Obama Administration officials. Last week, Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) lied and said she sued Exxon Mobil when she was California’s attorney general. In reality, she did not sue Exxon—she only investigated the oil company. While this demonstrates Harris’s loose relationship with the truth, it does show she thinks it’s good to sue Exxon and other energy companies. Harris supports climate litigation, even if she hasn’t pushed it herself. Climate litigation aims to

Americans’ average FICO score has hit an all-time high of 706 on the personal credit rating scale. Ethan Dornhelm, the vice president for scores and analytics at FICO, told CBS News that a score of more than 700 basically qualifies individuals for just about any credit at favorable terms. FICO scores range from 300 to 850. A score above 700 is considered great, and a score above 760 is considered excellent. This high national credit score may be largely attributed to the strong economy, with its historically low unemployment rate, and the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. “This record-long stretch of economic growth

To date, five congressmen from Texas have resigned instead of seeking re-election in 2020. Their resignations signal two things from GOP leadership. The first is the realization that Texas is now lost. The second is that this loss is due entirely to the changing demographics resulting from legal and illegal immigration. The five congressmen that have resigned are Bill Flores (17th), Will Hurd (23rd), Pete Olson (22nd), Kenny Marchant (24th), and Mike Conaway (11th). Of these five, Congressman Conaway is unique in that his district will likely remain red for some time. He has not faced an opponent in numerous election cycles.

November in New Haven, Connecticut feels damp, chilly, and rainy. That's how it felt one night in November 1989. I recall a hooded T-shirt and denim jacket both hanging heavy with the aftermath of a foggy drizzle. Some time before midnight, I went into a lounge of Yale Law School. I went there to talk to a Mexican woman — let's call her Silvia. I haven't seen or heard from her in almost thirty years. At the time, I considered her one of my closest friends in the world. When the Congress passed the 1964 Civil Rights Act it was principally concerned about undoing racial discrimination against African Americans; to a lesser extent, it was aimed at providing equal protection for women. Title VII bans discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. LGBT activists have long argued that the category of sex should include sexual orientation. Oral arguments for three related cases will be heard next month by the U.S. Supreme Court. One case, Altitude Express v. It’s amazing to see who comes to the defense of freedom when you least expect it. In July, 12 leading philosophy scholars from around the world signed on to a statement supporting freedom of thought and speech in academia, specifically as those freedoms are being undercut by gender identity ideology. These scholars warned of a dangerous movement within academia to sanction and silence people who express support for a biologically based understanding of gender and sexuality. All 12 philosophers denounced this trend and called for a restoration of academic freedom.

Early Monday morning, Donald Trump tweeted: “94% Approval Rating in the Republican Party, a record. Thank you!” Where the president got this specific number remains a mystery. Recent polls by YouGov put his GOP approval roughly ten points lower, and Gallup, which has tracked Trump’s popularity since he took office, puts him at 88 percent. But I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised that Trump used his Sharpie to round up his score. He’s deeply invested in being — or at least claiming to be — the most popular Republican president in history.

AUSTIN— Twenty-two Greenpeace USA activists created a blockade on the Fred Hartman Bridge in Baytown, Texas early Thursday ahead of the third Democratic primary debate in Houston. Eleven of those climbers are dangling over the side of the bridge, an activist said in a Facebook Live video. The climbers held colorful ribbons and streamers to block traffic under the bridge. The group aims to “shut down the largest oil export channel in the U.S.” for 24 hours. Good advice. It is a curiosity how a self-declaring Christian can still stand strong on the side of abortion rights. This is what Buttigieg said a few days ago on a “Breakfast Club” radio interview: “Right now, [conservatives] hold everybody in line with this one piece of doctrine about abortion, which is obviously a tough issue

The Congressional Budget Office reported on Tuesday that, with one month to go, the federal deficit for fiscal year 2019 has already topped $1 trillion. As night follows day, Trump administration critics blamed the tax cuts. And once again, the data prove them wrong. The CBO report says that the federal deficit reached $1.067 by the end of August. That’s up $168 billion from the comparable period in fiscal year 2018. The deficit this year will be larger than the entire budget was in 1987. Where did the increase come from? Why, tax cuts, of course.
