Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg characterized calls for eliminating the Electoral College as more “theoretical than real.”The justice commented on the proposed changes to the U.S. Constitution that some progressive lawmakers have been pushing during an appearance Monday at the University of Chicago, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.“It’s largely a dream because our Constitution is … hard to amend,” Justice Ginsburg said. “I know that from experience.”Progressive superstar Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez of New York has characterized the

I love it when a hard-left-liberal actually says something that is sensible. Yay, Ruthie-babes!

It is hard to amend especially if the change reduces small state's right. At last count, there are many more small states than large. The 2/3 majority of states must approve any amendment to the constitution. Fat chance that will ever happen to eliminate the electoral college and move to popular voting for president. Ruthie speaks the truth.

Thanks #2 which is exactly why some of us never pay attention to this talk. Too bad the talking heads don't get it.

Even though she could be worn down by illness, age and or disability of movement, Justice RBG is more cogent than Ocasio-Cortez, Talib and Pressley COMBINED on their best days. RBG may not like that the Constitution is hard to amend, but she understands it.

She assumes the Left wants to amend the Constitution to get their way. No - they want to circumvent it at best, or more likely destroy it altogether.

I'm surprised this witch hasn't declared it unconstitutional, like the 2nd amendment. Why don't you retire and enjoy your family for the rest of your miserable life.

Notice she doesn't say it would be a bad thing to do just that it would be hard to do. The Founders did try to build in protections to our rights way back then because they had the foresight to see that someday there would be democrats. They knew that there are always those who want to take away your freedom, that is why they specifically wrote that it was a God given right not a government given one.

Bingo#10! I can't believe that Judge Scalia would sit in the same room with this idiot . It's pretty hard to miss her vibe in this answer. I'm going to rejoice when she's not in power and our president has replaced her with someone who loves this country and its constitution. ( Notice how I didn't say " when she's dead') but I almost did, didn't I?

Interesting that liberals never also propose doing away with state presidential primaries or amending the Constitution to require Senate representation based on population. The Electoral College is part of the same constitutional scheme to prevent states like California and New York from politically marginalizing small states like Maine and Rhode Island.

She gets this one right. Not a chance in hell that this could EVER get the required 3/4th if the states to ratify it. NEVER happen, because the smaller states know that they would be cutting their own throats, politically.

It's hard to amend the Constitution for a reason. The founders didn't want the foundations of the Country buffeted around by changing political winds. However they also figured that if 3/4 of the states want to do something stupid, they deserve what happens.

I wouldn't even get the time of day, much less a comment that was less than derisive, unless perhaps, you drew from international law instead of solely using good old Constitutional, U.S. Law when issuing decisions.

3/4 of the states could convene a constitutional convention, but whatever their collective motivation, the final product could be quite different than expected. (Don't forget that the constitutional convention of 1787 produced our constitution without following the Articles of Confederation, which required a unanimous vote to change anything. One state didn't even send delegates, believing that would stop anything from taking place, and another state's delegation got lost on the way to the convention.)(those delegates assembled at the constitutional convention changed the rule on unanimous requirement, and got away with it.)
