In a major victory for both President Trump and national Republicans, North Carolina GOP state Sen. Dan Bishop was projected to win a fiercely contested special U.S. House election that was widely seen as a bellwether for the president's chances in the 2020 election. Another Republican House candidate won a separate special election in a GOP-leaning district elsewhere in North Carolina earlier in the evening -- frustrating Democrats who spent millions trying to avert the clean sweep and fire a warning shot against the president's bow, only to come up well short.

I couldn't help myself... I had to check out MSNBC after the polls closed... they literally were salivating over the prospect of the dem winning! They were going through each county with all the stats from last election with the raw count coming as the dem was ahead at the time and then, today's vote *strong republican) started mattering and being counted - their interest waned and now, President Trump is in trouble because Bolton is sure to write a "tell all" book... these people are filled, I mean consumed... with hate for Trump and republican... just sickening!

Don't worry # 1, those "tell all" books only appeal to a sliver of the already converted. IF Bolton writes a book we will see two days of Beltway Fever and that will be the end of it.

Too close. My heart weeps for my home state, but North Carolinians continue to battle in election after election. Please, keep fighting. Leftists are unrelenting; they keep at it until they succeed. Just like they did in Virginia. Virginia has a freakin' KKK-loving/black face, baby-killing, leftist governor. Why black people don't care that their leftist leaders are true racist is beyond me. They will step over blatant racism to get to someone falsely classified as racist for the most foolish reason. That person gets their highest hatred and disdain. Can't understand it.

Obviously the dems thought they had this in the bag or they would have cheated to make it so. Chalk it up to another Trump win!

It's reflexive, # 4. Black people have been conditioned to see Democrats, no matter how vile, as the protectors of their hard-won gains and they look after their interests as they perceive them. (IMO, the Republicans are still paying the price for Goldwater and Nixon's "southern strategy").

So why was the turnout so low compared to 2018 - don't the voters there care?

A win is a win. In 2020 the Dems will have a comatose old man or a communist at the top of the ticket. This district will stay Republican.

The lesson is now clear to the GOP.
Stick with Trump for the win.
Go against for the loss.

Headlines all lie and say Bishop won 'narrowly' when it's the reverse. Dan Bishop won by an impressive 3937 votes-considering the Republican candidate Harris in Nov. 2018 only beat McCready by 905 votes with many more voting. Dr. Greg Murphy in CD 3 won by 27,572. To get the GOP nomination Dr. Murphy crushed the GOP Establishment candidate in a July runoff. Three cheers and many thanks to Diamond and Silk who headlined Trump's rally in Fayetteville, NC on 9/9/19.

Thank you, #8, for giving your time and efforts to this important election. Each victory builds momentum. And to read your comments about Bishop being a true conservative is encouraging. Onward!

Bishop won with a bit over 2% of the 186,000 votes cast ((94,984 to 90,824). In 2018 the vote total was almost 278 thousand, almost 50% more. Nevertheless, I can exhale a little.
