Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke says it is a fundamental “right” for individuals to live near their place of employment and that wealthy Americans should “be forced” to live among the poor. “Living close to work shouldn’t be a luxury for the rich. It’s a right for everyone,” the former Texas congressman tweeted Monday evening. The Democrat’s tweet also included a video further explaining his position. “Here’s the tough thing to talk about, though we must. Rich people are gonna have to allow—or be forced to allow—lower-income people to live near them, which is what we fail to do in this country

Well, as an old cousin of my momma used to say, it's just as easy to fall in love and marry a rich girl than a poor girl. But I'm guessing that Beto and most of his wealthy elite friends mean that we in the middle class should expect the poor and riff-raff (not the same groups, of course) to take over our neighborhoods. The poor won't be able to afford the HOA and other fees in their gated estate neighborhoods.

Yes, if you live close to your work you don't need a car. You can walk, or bike. Bus maybe? We certainly don't want you to choose where you live that best suits your family situation. Let's herd everyone together. Live and work in a limited area. So much easier to control you know. What makes him think only the "rich" live close to their work? On a good day I am at work in 6 minutes. 8 minutes on a bad day. And I am not rich. I know we throw around the crazy meme for these people but he really is.

Re#5: Should the totalitarian left ever gain the power they so fervently desire, you will not have a car to gas up. And most likely, those of us not politically connected will be forced to live in soviet-style, concrete block apartments. Eight families to each apartment, bathing and toilet facilities down the hall. Finally: equality.

What an idiot. The central planners have been enacting zoning laws for years just to keep the riff raff out of the rich neighborhoods and keep property values high for the tax base. If you want to see how fast you can fill up city hall, just propose an "affordable housing" subdivision next to a gated community.

Easy there, Benito, sounds like you may be advocating a Plantation lifestyle where the poor live so close to the rich, they will just walk to their houses to work for them every day...next thing you know there'll be slave, I mean, servants quarters.

Didn't they try some thing like this already? That is how we got something called the SUBURBS. People with the money could afford to live further away from work and the lower income people were stuck where they were (close to work in the cities). This resulted in the inner cities becoming what they are today. Beto is an idiot.

First, the truly "wealthy" typically don't work at a fixed location, so I assume he means "high income" but Beto is never guilty of thinking things through. I'm not wealthy and live 1,495 driving miles from my fixed workplace and wouldn't take kindly to being 'forced' to move any closer. I'm hoping to retire before the Green New Deal kicks in and air travel is banned. Besides, my horse is only good for around 30 miles/day.

Chicago is one of the most Democrat places in the country. And yet it is one of the most segregated cities re rich and poor. Freeways separate good neighborhoods from bad neighborhoods. City planners designed the layout that way.
So why would we listen to a Democrat about where people should live?

Separate from that, when a city experiences gentrification, some black leaders complain bitterly about it. It drives up housing costs, they say, making it unaffordable for blacks.

My Father used to say that you can't help what thoughts sometimes pop into your head, but you can help what comes out of your mouth. I suppose O'Rourke never heard that or he might be more careful.

Even Mother Teresa didn't advocate forcing the rich to live among the poor, as she chose to do.
Dumbass Beta... I doubt that he gained either one rich or one poor vote for saying this The poor people don't want rich people living among them any more than the rich want the poor to live among them. They rant and rave against 'gentrification' if some rich people move in and try to 'spruce up' the neighborhood.
Maybe a few middle class white guilt social justice warriors will like this idea.. (Until they are forced to do it, anyway.)

Robert, why must people live close to their job? More importantly, why can't people live where they want?
The only reason people are forced to live close to their job is because they are TIED TO IT LIKE SLAVES.
That might be the way things work in a Communist society or any society based on slavery, but the United States OTLAWED SLAVERY over a century ago.

That is part and parcel of the latest push for us to all ride bicycles and do away with our gasoline using cars. The idiot "planners" in my city spent months inconveniencing us with road construction, all so they could do away with turning lanes and put in bike paths (that almost nobody uses). The left wants us all to live near work in highrise apartments buildings, walking or riding bicycles. China is the model for all this, with its Social Credit scores and monitoring of the citizens everywhere.
