President Donald Trump knows why he wants his border wall painted black—but on Monday, it seemed like that information had yet to trickle down to the rest of his administration as U.S. Customs and Border Protection Acting Commissioner Mark Morgan appeared to struggle to explain why he supports the U.S. leader's decision.
Asked during a White House press conference whether he has any objections to Trump's dictum to paint the roughly 450 miles of border wall black, even if it means having to forgo a few miles of wall to cover the cost, Morgan made clear that he did not.
The acting CBP chief said he thinks it is "common sense" that

Come on. This is easy. Black conducts the sun’s heat. Just as the President wanted the tops to be pointed he wants it painted black for the same reason, to deter people from attempting to climb it. Good for him. Americans are tired of supporting illegals while our veterans and seniors could use some assistance. Our working poor and the property stricken in this country are ignored in favor of illegals. That just is not right. We must do whatever it takes to secure our border and take care of our own first.

Painting the wall would be a waste of money.

Painting the wall black will also make it less enticing for graffiti criminals.

Actually #1, black absorbs heat.
This is all they have now. Trump wants the wall to be black! Impeach!

Painting the wall black is brilliant! In the southern desert sun, it will be too hot to touch much less climb. I live in South Carolina and the other day I was out in my back yard barefoot. When I came back into the house I accidentally stepped on the black metal plate which spans the area under the door. Talk about burn - I was shocked that I didn’t get blisters on the bottom of my feet.

Design and build a wall that actually deters criminal border crossing. Well, that's just plain damn mean! /s

From still photo and video transmissions of the “new” border fence, it appears to be made of Cor-Ten steel (weathered steel). Cor-Ten steel is used for construction of bridge, buildings, fences, retaining walls, sculptural pieces of art—architecture, construction engineering and landscape architecture. Cor-Ten has a unique look and “the naturally oxidizing finish obviates the need for painting; it forms a stable rust-like appearance if exposed to weather for several years and has an increased resistance to atmospheric corrosion when compared to other steels. It resists the corrosive effects of rain, snow, ice, fog, and other meteorological conditions by forming a coating of dark brown oxidation of the metal which inhibits deeper penetration and negates the need for painting and costly rust-prevention maintenance over the years; the steel is allowed to rust and that rust forms a protective coating that slows the rate of future corrosion.”
Metal gets hot in sunlight. Considering temperatures at the U.S./Mexico border varying during daylight hours between 80-100+ degrees Fahrenheit, the “weathering steel” fence will very likely be “hot” without the need of painting it black.

I read the headline and immediately knew why. Anyone who has ever touched anything black that has been in the sun all day knows what it feels like when touched. Bravo President Trump, a man who knows what he's doing.

Won't it last longer with a rust-deterring coat of paint, and black gets really hot!

#12- There is no definitive answer to the lifespan of Cor-Ten steel--it depends on the environment and the way it was installed. Projects using bare cold rolled and Cor-Ten products installed more than 40 years ago have no problems; Cor-Ten has a longer lifespan than bare cold rolled steel—CorTen steel becomes even stronger after weathering. “Using a heavier gauge steel is the most important thing you can do to increase the longevity of CorTen steel.” Whether Cor-Ten gets as hot as “black” is a legitimate question; however, some sources indicate that it is not possible for a metal to get hotter than its environment unless there is a source of radiation. Copper gets hot under such conditions and Cor-Ten is a group of steel alloys that includes 5% copper in the alloy mix (manganese, silicon, nickel).
