I will be 83 years old in October and will be the first to admit that, for the most part, the world has totally outpaced me technologically, style-wise, musically, and certainly insofar as what is and is not socially acceptable.
And while an octogenarian fiddle player from Tennessee may be miles and decades behind in recognizing and embracing the “in” thing and what is socially acceptable in this ever-changing beehive we live in, there are a few eternal truths that can never go out of style or be pushed to the side and ignored if the human race is to continue to exist and be anything except separate stubborn,

"Comfort animals" are the reason I now fly first class. You find less of that crap in the more expensive seats.

Let's just hand out Teddy Bears and pacifiers and call it good.

Agree with above posters. If you’re afraid of flying, get your GP to prescribe a couple of Xanax to get you through your journey.
I love animals and at one time had 4 horses, 3 dogs and 6 cats, but I didn’t have them because I needed comfort. They were all rescues and I got them to give them a good home.
I just wish the the millennials would grow up.

I have two cats and a mild case of anxiety that doesn't interfere with my life. I don't take the cats on a plane - it would be too upsetting for them. Charlie Daniels is right. Horses are skittish creatures and I can't imagine putting one through flying in a crowed cabin.

I'm guilty of traveling with a longcoat chihuahua, but that was because my girlfriend and I were going to a dog show. Dog fits in a Sherpa bag, and can be placed under a seat no problem. Nobody ever tried to tell us to store them in the overhead compartment either.
As for a miniature horse as a comfort animal...don't see how that could work. Charlie Daniels is right. Since when have we been required to cater to the fringe nuts in society? It doesn't work.
Don't see how a comfort animal helps me feel less stress while flying. To me, it would be one more thing to worry about. I don't like flying, but a comfort animal isn't the solution.

I fly a lot. 10 years ago there would be the odd service animal on a plane, usually with a blind person. Today, especially during holidays and peak vacation periods, it seems everyone has a service dog or animal. It is amazing the booming growth industry of "service animals". I feel that everyone and anyone who wants their favorite pet to be certified can get it certified for whatever reason. These are people who don't need therapy animals, they just want to take their pets with them on vacation because it is cheaper than a kennel.

I'm OK with a rabbit's foot, or a comfort gin and tonic, or equivalent, but really, stick to cats or dogs under 35 lbs, NO other species.
NO exceptions.
And, good grief, no horses.

I have two comfort dogs. They greet me at the door when I get home as if Ive been gone for days. Ill even smile on the way home thinking about the greetings I will get.
Even if I did have an actual comfort animal, I would be more stressed about their well being traveling with them.

Prefer to drive. Don't have to deal with livestock, crying babies, and get to see something of the country.

Bringing your own animal on a flight would ADD stress for me-I'd have to stay in the cargo hold with the animal! Does anyone care about the stress the animal may experience?

It's all a 'moot' point as far as I'm concerned...I no longer fly...I refuse to be groped by some trans TSA agent, or subjected to a strip down search as some have to contend with...and tell me exactly how many bad things (except for baby poo) have they found in baby diapers, or seniors depends???
If I can't get there by car, I no longer go...

I don’t understand how any unrestrained animals can be allowed in the cabin on a plane simply from a safety standpoint. If all bags have to be stowed in an overhead or under a seat, then how in Hades is a large dog or tiny horse allowed in the cabin? Can you imagine the damage hitting turbulence or whatever? A couple hundred pound horse could kill someone, so could a big dog. I don’t get it. My dogs (all in the 60 pound range) were always harnessed and belted in my car. I was concerned for their safety and mine. So it’s a free for all on a plane? How is this legal, much less logical or safe? I would get off any plane if some moron got on with horse!

Has anyone asked the poor horse if the plane ride was stressful? Nah, it's all about the owner..

G-d bless Charlie. It's not an airplane today, it's a cattle car. It's bad enough with electronics, never mind animals Animals poop because they don't know better. Why should anyone else have to clean up after them? Thank goodness I don't have to fly anywhere.

The "comfort animal" thing has really, really gone too far. And that's the least of America's problems.
