Gov. Gavin Newsom just made it legal for anyone in the state of California to refuse to help a police officer requesting assistance. The California Democrat on Tuesday signed into law a bill that struck down a more than century-old law which required any “able-bodied person 18 years of age or older” to assist a police officer who requested help during an arrest, The Sacramento Bee reported. (Photo) Sen. Bob Hertzberg, who sponsored Senate Bill 192, said the old law was “a vestige of a bygone era” that subjected citizens to “an untenable moral dilemma.” The California Posse Comitatus Act of 1872 was used to help catch runaway slaves and

There were still slaves in 1872? Who knew?

The idiot California State Senator that said this 1872 law was designed to capture run-a-way slaves ought to be reminded that slavery was ended in 1865 after Union forces defeated the Confederacy seven years before the law was passed. I am constantly amazed by the ignorance of our American history and these sorry excuses for elected representatives in California should be required to sit through an American History course.

Police should just walk away from these places and see how long the elite suffer their absence. Either that or march into their offices, arrest them for contributing to crime and disorder, and chase them out of the state.

I really hope the police don't decide to reciprocate now that I don't have to help them if I don't want to.

Regardless of what a Democrat says, yea even pleas during their campaigning, they truly despise the police, the military, and any form of authority apart from themselves. They are the most despicable of creatures.

Gavin Newsom is a real piece of work. This guy is a lunatic. Expect one outrage after another from this creep. He'll be running for POTUS beginning in mid 2023, so get ready. The Rats will be all out pushing this guy. He is also Pelosi's nephew...

Couldn't imagine not helping a cop who was in a tight spot.
Unconscionable that they would pass a law encouraging you to be a bad citizen.

Who would want to be a cop today in California? No one has your back. If people won't help cops if they need it, how long will it be until a cop decides quid pro quo?

Maybe the police could institute an unspoken rule that they don't protect or help any politician that voted for this!

Honestly myself, my hubby and our adult son, all native born and still residing in California, had no idea of this law! That said, being of decent folk and LEO supporting, it’s not an issue...always on the side of our men and women in blue.

#13, it must be hard to be in such a far-left state. My son-in-law is a 5th generation Californian, working out of state and he has no intention of returning. His brother lives in CA but his wife wants out ASAP. It’s beauty is unparalleled and it is tragic that someone as slimy as Newsome is the governor.

If cops are smart, they'd have a secret rule that on any 911 call they look up party affiliation and if "demonrat", "socialist", or "communist" shows up, slow roll the call or claim they couldn't get to it because of another emergency that took precedence, even if it's a jaywalking incident.

Just one more reason along with many more reasons not to go, visit , or live in California. The political leaders of this state are out of their collective minds. And Newsom is the number one wacko. The police officers and such should go on strike but of course in all good conscience they wouldn't. They swear to serve and protect the people of California. Something the legislators in California should take to heart.
