Earlier today Walmart CEO Doug McMillon officially announced a number of firearms and ammunition will no longer be sold at stores nationwide. The statement was quite incoherent, but here it is.
Here is the @WalmartInc press release making the announcement about discontinuing ammunition sales. The CEO's description of ammunition and firearms is bizarrely incoherent. Great to know they put zero effort into learning about the products they sell. https://t.co/9jDviI1pkj

Just last month an armed citizen became a hero after stopping a mass shooting at a Walmart in Missouri. From local NBC 25 News:

The announcement is funky. Maybe a little buzzed and in a "stream of consciousness" thing.

If Wal-Mart didn't have the foresight or stamina for this line of business, maybe they shouldn't have been in the firearm business at all. I barely want to go in a Wal-Mart - I only go in there because I can't find a couple of products elsewhere.

Walmart will realize the error of their ways when the huge drop in sales sinks in, not just guns and ammo but in everything else that people will not be buying. Stockholders will be furious.

Remember Sears? Walmart is not too big to fail.
Must be Walmart wants to lose a lot of business to virtue signal, like Gillette did.

Taking Walmart closer to a gun free zone takes them closer to a Killing for Free zone. This makes me more likely to carry concealed there if I ever go to their store again.

Et tu, Walmart? You're aiming straight at your base, the very people who stood so tall in your defense when libs were hellbent on destroying you. This isn't going to be forgotten.

Pretty incoherent statement. Being from an open carry state I must say I rarely ever see open carry used by anyone. Most, like myself have a concealed carry permit and are likely to carry concealed which in today's political climate is the wiser thing to do. If you open carry it is more likely some flake will freak out and call the police which is a situation I would prefer to not have to go through.
Either way, Walmart will ultimately pay a price in loss of sales for this decision. It is a knee jerk reaction that will turn many customers off and leave their stores more vulnerable. Next time there may be no one there to stop a shooter. Would they then be more likely to lawsuits if another incident occurs? You would think they would be smarter than this. I guess not. Either way, I rarely go there unless they have something I can not get anywhere else.

It's not as if I needed another reason to stop shopping at a place that makes you dodge around people who have let themselves get obese to the point that they have to clog the aisles with their carts. Also, they are understaffed when it comes to customer service I know there are many towns that have no other stores that offer the selection and prices-but we do and I'll do just fine giving all of my grocery money to Meijer.

Things are getting so odd. NASCAR is getting all woke, Wal-Mart quits selling ammo and firearms, Gillette loses tons of money by running insulting commercials. The Democrats sell ideas that simply won't work at all - there is not enough money in the world to fund them and a normal person is called names. I am living in bizarro world.

Wall Mart really makes it hard to want to do business with it. The sporting goods dude was always hard to find and seemed to grudgingly take a few minutes of his time to help me. I can find ammo cheaper, and in better variety elsewhere. My Walmart never sold handguns either, just shotguns and rifles.

Oh please don't burn all Walmart stores to the ground yet. My grandkids work there, working their way through college. It is good money and in the little towns where they live, it is good money. Yes, I know that Walmart buried many Mom & Pop stores in the last century, and that was a shame. I don't know what to do with that. In the early 1950's we felt the same way about K-Mart and Woolco when they did the same.

I haven’t set foot in a Walmart in a couple of decades. They refused to exchange an item for me even though I met all of the criteria posted above their customer service desk and the manager called me a liar. I moved to my new home in SC almost 2 years ago and I have no idea where the local Walmart is. Don’t go to Target either.

McMillon, you are very short-sighted, bro. Nothing, absolutely nothing will stop the next mentally ill lefty from entering your stores armed to the hilt and ready to kill anybody. They will buy or steal their guns and ammo from elsewhere. Even if you post no weapons allowed signs, you assume wrongly that these vermin are law-abiding criminals. There's an oxymoron for you.

Could Walmart be any dumber? This move may placate the leftists who think all Walmart shoppers smell but it won't stop a deranged person bent on mass murder from coming into a Walmart to do his dirty work. This is what's wrong with the left, they're all about the appearance of doing something while not actually providing any real solutions.

Though I'm disappointed, Walmart has the right to sell (or not sell) what they want. No different than a baker that doesn't want to decorate a cake in a way they find offensive.
As to the restriction of open carry, I'm with Walmart on this one. There have been many open-carry advocates that make a nuisance of themselves just to make a dubious point. The internet is full of videos of jerks who are looking for attention just hoping for a reaction for a video they can post. I blame their abuse of the privilege to open carry on private property for the Walmart policy.

The Left hates Walmart because the company makes it possible for people to have a better standard of living. The Left wants us dissatisfied and angry. I do not understand this latest position by the CEO, but it does not ban concealed carry, so I will continue to shop at my favorite store. I will no longer go there if it becomes gun-free, since that just invites the kooks who shoot people.

I never go to Walmart unarmed. I read it as they want to restrict open carry, not concealed. Doesn't matter as I'll always carry anyway.

Walmart's new position is like an open invitation to crazies to come and shoot up their store. Won't be going there for quite awhile.

I carry concealed, and will admit that open carry sometimes bothers me. I've never seen anyone open carry a black rifle, mostly handguns. In a shooting situation, the open carry guy is going to be the 1st one shot by the armed mass shooter, in order to protect himself. As for not selling ammunition, what problem will that solve? I've never heard of a mass shooter going into a store, buying ammunition and then loading up. They usually come prepared.

I thought they had just asked people to stop carrying openly. Did I miss something? And considering what a couple of morons have done in that respect after the shooting last month it is difficult to fault them on it.
But stopping selling guns and ammo? Now that is uncalled for. Purely caving to pressure from the gun-grabbers. Perhaps a letter writing and phone call campaign to WalMart might clue them into the fact that while the gun-grabbers are loud and their voices are amplified by the "news" media, they do NOT represent the majority opinion of normal Americans.

Walmart could shut down the gun/ammo department for all I care. Meager selection and real weapon stores are only a few miles in any direction.

Then nascar turned left...
Now Wal-Mart too?
OY!
But there are MANY better gun and ammo stores than that giant outlet.

I haven't been in any Walmart in years. The closest one to is is 15 miles. To far to go to that dump. I heard they remodeled, but I still won't go. Also, many of their prices aren't that great an many items. Is Sam Walton was still living, I think, even he, would be disappointed in what has happened to his stores.

Are the WalMart Clowns going to stop selling auto parts/tires because car accidents kill far more people than guns? If that stupidity keeps up you'll be selling nothing but broccoli...cancel that, broccoli stinks so bad it kills!
