HONG KONG - Every night at 10 p.m., Hong Kong neighborhoods and university dorms echo with pro-democracy and anti-government chants, the latest form of protest in the Chinese-ruled city where a civil disobedience movement has been going on for more than 12 weeks. What started as a protest against a now-suspended bill that would have allowed criminal suspects to be extradited to mainland China for trial, has evolved into a broad, increasingly violent, and creative, struggle for greater democracy.

Haunting because they haven't gotten a prayer. And yet, yet... Man, I hope they overthrow the Chicoms and free all China. They can hook up with Taiwan afterward. Those brave Hongkongers. And I think their city is the most beautiful city in the world.

Make NO mistake, the ChiComs are Mafia-esque THUGS. They are not disposed to show ANY weakness and I doubt that the people of Hong Kong have much of a chance now that China has decided to renege on the 2037 date. The same way that they reneged on the "deal" that they negotiated with Trump. The same way they've violated previous deals. Sooner or later they'll invade Taiwan if Taiwan doesn't just knuckle under to them. Sooner or later they'll restrict shipping and peaceful passage in the South China Sea with their artificial islands designed to stymie any Pacific American presence. And WHERE is the UN in all of this? ... oh I forgot, they're busy, busy, busy ... condemning ... Israel.

OP, I must agree... Hong Kong is also the most incredible city in the world. While there I was told by a resident, "Don't talk politics in public," and it was because China's influence is creeping in as Communism does. This is now approaching the tipping point. If China gives in they lose face with their slaves, or if China crushes the HK dissidents, China loses the Pearl of the Orient.

The Hong Kong dollar is pegged to the U$S. They are close to collapse and then the Chinese Communist Party will be in a big problem. The price of real estate in Hong Kong may bring the house of cards of CCP paper tiger down.

Dems Aim To Win Back Working

There’s been a spate of articles in recent days about how Democrats need to win back working-class voters who defected to President Donald Trump in 2016 if they want to regain the White House. Right in the middle of this discussion, Sen. Bernie Sanders provided yet another reminder of how incredibly, unbelievably out of touch the Democratic Party is with those voters. An AP story this week talked about how Democrats face an “identity crisis” as they try to answer the question, “How can they peel back Trump’s support with white working-class voters while boosting turnout with minorities and suburban women?”

When you can sort out what Beto O'Rourke is saying through his foul language, what he's saying in the wake of the Odessa-Midland mass shooting is pretty awful: Expropriate law-abiding citizens' guns, by force. According to Fox News: Beto O’Rourke repeated his pledge to initiate a mandatory buyback of assault weapons if he is elected president. O’Rourke was asked Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia, how he would address the fears of some Americans that the government would take away their assault weapons.

When natural disasters threaten, governments are quick to roll out anti-price gouging laws. Josh Stein, the Democratic attorney general in North Carolina, which might take a hit from Hurricane Dorian, has already warned business that if they take “advantage of this storm” he will “hold them accountable.” He’ll be praised for protecting consumers when he should instead be held responsible for hurting them. Even the Republicans, who should know better, are all in on anti-price gouging laws. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has issued a warning similar to Stein’s, while Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has “enacted price gouging controls” in a dozen counties near the coast.

It was a quiet night in Platts Harbor, near Santa Cruz Island. Shirley Hansen and her husband, Bob, had spent the day on the water and anchored their fishing boat Grape Escape in the cove. They cooked a calico bass Shirley had caught and went to bed. Then, they were woken by a loud thumping noise on the side of their 60-foot vessel. “It was horrific, the pounding,” Shirley Hansen said. “Our boat is very well made. Having that sound come through [showed] they were very in need of help.”

How does one know what the voting public thinks? Once upon a time, long, long ago, public opinion polls may have reflected, however faintly, some generalization of public opinion. For a multitude of reasons, that is no longer true. To demonstrate that point, compare the August 29 Rasmussen poll showing President Trump’s approval rating of 47 percent with the Quinnipiac reported approval rating of 38 percent. Even more irrational are the Quinnipiac poll result that whatever is left of Joe Biden would beat Trump 54 percent to 38 percent in a general election and the Economist poll number that asserts that 55 percent of the public

He's got his eyes on the prize, knowing that it's his job to ensure that Britain can leave the European Union as British voters demanded. Like President Trump, he means to keep his promises. While Hurricane Dorian’s up-to 220 mph winds were battering the Bahamas, one brave soul there ventured forth to issue a dire message to the world: “Send beer.” A Nassau tourism web cam captured the moment the unidentified beach-comber ambled out onto the sand to scrawl the message at around 1:30 p.m. — around the same time the monster Category 5 was harrowing Great Abaco Island about 90 miles north after making landfall there around 12:40 p.m. The man appears to sign his handiwork “G7DAZ.” It might not be entirely out of character for Bahamians, who are known to be pretty mellow.

Chilling audio of a distress call from the captain of Monday’s doomed Santa Cruz boat includes him describing how all of his passengers are trapped below deck “with no escape hatch.” “There’s 33 people on board the vessel on fire. They can’t get off,” says the man, who later identifies himself as the captain of the Conception diving tour boat, to a US Coast Guard operator. The Coast Guard worker responds, “Roger. Are they locked inside the boat? Roger. Can you get back on board and unlock the doors so they can get off? Roger. You don’t have any firefighter gear at all, no fire extinguishers or anything?”

A 911 dispatcher in Arkansas scolded a woman stranded in floodwaters shortly before the woman drowned. The incident has led police in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to apologize and review their policies for emergency responses during storms. Debra Stevens, 47, was delivering newspapers at about 4:38 a.m. on Aug. 24 when her car was swept away by floodwaters and got stuck in a copse of trees off the roadway amid rising waters, Fort Smith police said. Her call to 911 was answered by then-dispatcher Donna Reneau, who was working her last shift as a 911 operator after she had presented her resignation earlier this month, NBC affiliate KARK reported.

Comey violated FBI policies regarding memos that helped spark the special counsel investigation. It was not immediately clear what Trump meant, but in May he shared a tweet by a supporter that said he should have two years added to his term as compensation for having endured the investigation of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III into possible coordination between Trump’s campaign and Russia. “The disastrous IG Report on James Comey shows, in the strongest of terms, how unfairly I,

Apparently, wearing red baseball caps is a triggering experience for Rebecca Makkai and she warned that it scares other people. Even baseball caps that aren’t political are not worth wearing because they trigger liberal America. I mean this is just weakness. And people wonder why the far left isn’t taken seriously and seen as antithetical to liberal democracy. According to them, you can’t say certain things—they have speech codes—and you can’t even wear certain things.

Instead of fixing America’s illegal-immigration crisis or addressing the deadly opioid epidemic, Nadler plans to launch another sham investigation — this time into Trump’s alleged role in paying “hush money” to silence Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal. Democrats claim that Trump’s then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, had paid hush money to Daniels and McDougal in 2016

In 15th-century Peru, we learned last week, children were sacrificed to propitiate to the Chimú gods, in an attempt to end natural disasters caused by the climatic phenomenon we now call, appropriately enough, El Niño. In our time, the roles have been reversed. Now children warning of an impending climate catastrophe are the ones that have to be propitiated. Now it is they who demand sacrifices. The arrival of Greta Thunberg in New York on Thursday was one of many recent events that illustrate how rapidly modern environmentalism is degenerating into a millenarian cult. Thunberg, 16, is in New York at the invitation of the United Nations,
