Health officials in Illinois believe a patient's recent death may be the first vaping-related one in the U.S., according to the Associated Press. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced last Friday that an adult patient died after contracting a severe lung disease. The person's name, age and date of death were not released, although the state was notified of the individual's passing last Thursday, said Dr. Jennifer Layden, the agency's chief medical officer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also noted last week that at least 193 people across 22 states have suffered from respiratory illnesses

I just don't understand all the people against vaping. It's tremendously safer than cigarettes. Yet my work place has totally banned it so all the smokers have changed back to cigarettes. How is that safer?

Re #2: Several reasons to limit vaping:
(1) The cutesy "candy" flavors the e-cig companies are putting into their products make them attractive to children. Kids commonly see vaping as "cool" and try it. Nicotine in vaping products is just as viciously addictive as nicotine in tobacco -- another generation of addicts created by a "safe" product.
(2) Exhaled steam from vaping products is free of tar, but it's still full of nicotine.
(3) Most of the legal prohibitions are against vaping indoors in bars, restaurants, and other public facilities or against vaping in crowded outdoor spaces.
(4) Personally, I'd like to see vaping products regulated by the FDA as a drug delivery system -- which they are. But limiting use of e-cigs in crowded public spaces is a good first step.

I smoked for 50 years and tried multiple times to quit without success. When I discovered electronic cigarettes, I was able to stop and have not smoked since. Of course, e-cigarettes are different than vaping. People who vape might have any kind of substances in the liquid, with no way to know. My e-cigarette cartridges are quality controlled.
The County recently banned vaping within 50 feet of the building, and the idiot County Commissioners were asking if one could get second-hand smoke from vaping. First of all, it isn't smoke. It's vapor. That's why they call it "vaping." I don't know how much nicotine is in the vapor, but I doubt that it is enough to hurt you, snowflake.

To counter the phrase, "I'll have what he's smoking", it needs to be, I'll NOT have what he's smoking!
Calling Darwin Awards...Smoke bad stuff and die!

More chicken little from the tobacco industry which has long had its claws into government.
Vaping has been pretty widespread for over a decade and obvious medical problems are yet to be truly established. Popcorn lung, exploding batteries, etc. -- scare stories with little basis in fact. Abusing anything can cause problems, vapers can push limits.
Nicotine is a mild stimulant, certainly addictive and a problem in massive doses. I love my nic, I'll take it over caffeine.
Two packs a day pushing forty years, I feel almost guilty how easy vaping made giving up cigs. Five years now, lung function measurably better, BP meds cut in half, clearly I am healthier. I mix my own unflavored e-juice, zero odor and no problem for anyone else except for busybodies. I'll guess I spend 2-3$ a week now, at most.
I had no chance of quitting with methods available, I prayed. I found a vape on the golf course, the guy came back looking for it, he told me about a local shop. I was intrigued by the hardware, checked it out and the rest is history. I consider it a Godsend, change my mind.

Vaping is a great way to get off cigarettes. I have family that have done just that and I am thankful they are much healthier now. But then, they use their e-cigs correctly. You know, they follow the instructions. Kind of like how gun safety is important.. you know following the rules. But then there are the idiots that spoil everything. So just because some careless fool dies vapes incorrectly and dangerously, I guess those against vaping now would prefer cigarettes and the lung cancer back?
I mean smokers were and are treated like lepers. Then they finally find a healthier alternative that could even help them quit and the snowflake brigade starts whining and demanding the government "DO SOMETHING!!" Sound familiar.
If you so against stimulants, ban Folgers.. then get back to me.
