A Facebook prank landed an East Texas man in county jail after he allegedly opened a gallon of Blue Bell ice cream, licked it, and returned it to the shelf. While he accomplished his goal of a viral video, the prank has cost him criminal charges and his job.
A Facebook video earlier this week shows a man opening a gallon of Blue Bell ice cream, licking the ice cream, closing it up, and placing it back on the shelf. Police began investigating and identified the Walmart store in Port Arthur, Texas, as the incident location.

Young people today are fixated on Face Book. They pull stupid stunts like this that will affect their lives (possibly forever) in order to get "likes". I am sad that they are so addicted that they don't go outside and make friends with real in the flesh people. We are raising a whole generation of socially dysfunctional citizens unable to interact with each other in person all due to social media. As far as I am concerned it all is harmful trash.

This reminds me of the mindset that would work in food service and spit on customer's food.
He needs serious jail time as a deterrent to further copycats Why is it always Walmart and Blue Bunny?

Port Arthur is not really in East Texas, or even Deep East Texas (you native Texans here will understand the term). We would call it Southeast Texas. There is a big difference to all of this. Port Arthur is on the Gulf Coast. One of the posters below the original article commented that he doesn't look like someone from Port Arthur. Another agreed, saying that he had California stamped all over him. I agree with both. He's a visitor, not a good ole boy from Port Arthur. Having said all that, I opine that this sort of goings on demonstrates the rationale for segregation. Sue me, shoot me----it's a thought that occasionally blindsides me.

Well, you heard what his father said, "Anderson’s father told the Associated Press his son was just trying to get Facebook likes. " Repeat, "was just trying to get Facebook likes". I bet his father thought the son done good. Thus the cycle of moral corruption. My son would be limping to work and never taste ice cream while dwelling under my roof.

Well, this is disheartening. On the other hand, having seen the picture, I'm relieved to see that Prince lives!

This person is 24 years old. He isn’t married and devoting his time to a family - he’s on Facebook showing off for strangers. He isn’t responsible for his decisions - daddy makes excuses for him and life’s just a joke. He is grinning in what appears to be a mug shot. He made an apology to an ice cream company explaining that he should be forgiven for contaminating merchandise and tainting their reputation because he loves their product. These are the actions of, perhaps, someone aged 14 or younger and even the age of 14 is stretching it. It isn’t possible to address a case of arrested development like this with a national policy or a local program or policy. This guy is too old to shame or to redirect. He might be slow or he might simply be a brat but he isn’t pathetic due to anyone but himself.

I hope he has to pay for the destroyed ice cream and the associated costs to Walmart (or its insurance company).
NO ice cream while serving time.
Now we will be getting more tamper-evident packaging on food. Prices will go up.

The fine should be set by the cost to Blue Bell. However much it cost them to destroy their product and replace it should be the fine to this Man! Yes Man! This is no "Boy". He should be responsible, not his parents! He should have to work off this fine until it's paid, maybe for the rest of his life! THAT would be a proper consequence. It certainly would be enough to make the next "BOY" think twice before doing something just to get of Facebook! I'm sure Daddy bailed out this "boy" and he will think the whole thing was a joke! Sad!

Oh dear! I worry for this fellow.
Can he dress himself? Button his own shirt? Use the bathroom unassisted?
I see in the article he's 24 years old, but the lack of brain is profound.
Maybe some time away from electronics, phones, Facebook and such, will allow enough brain cells to sprout in his cranial vacuum for him to "think twice" in the future.

Boy? A 24 year old licking ice cream at Wal Mart to get 'likes' on Facebook. Give me a freaking break. At 24 I had already been to war and returned home to work in the oilfield cutting my path through life not licking ice cream. Stop referring to young men as 'boys'. That wasn't 17 or 18 year old 'boys' that stormed the beaches on D-Day so stop it. This man deserves a stiff penalty and fine for what he did. A law suit by Wal Mart and Blue Bell ice cream should be his reward and maybe a down home asswhupping would get his attention.

This needs to be treated with a few days in public stocks. We could all go down and "thank" these creatures. Some rotten eggs, old tomatoes and maybe some other choice compost items bounced off his face might be instructional.

Blacks, always blacks. If some Buhweet pulls that little reaching over me stunt, I will be "startled" and turn; he will receive a exceedingly violent elbow to the face. Of course, I will apologize profusely and help him up off the floor when he regains consciousness. But what if he was just innocently reaching for the product and intended no malice? Oh, well, as the leftists are fond of saying, "You have to break some eggs to make an omelette". :oP

Check out the second video in the article. Reaching in front of employees stocking shelves and customers taking products. Rude and arrogant. Self-important little creep is used to selfies...giving his best smile.

This what you get when the teen age years are extended into the late twenties or early thirties. People who act like they're thirteen or fourteen years old with no concept of right or wrong.

Agree with #6 and #14 regarding how to handle this.
These people are after public approval and street creds. That's why jail is not the answer. In some communities, being an excon would be another form of public approval and street creds. The public needs to be able to show their disapproval of these actions. Even then, not sure it would help. These are acts of defiance against society, and the perps might still be defiant even after punishment.

No Fear. Not afraid of being arrested or going to jail. After all, many of them have family and friends in jail. He said he was sorry. Worked with mom, why not you? Sooner or later someone will see a jerk licking ice cream and shove their face in it. That being said, I got very sick from ice cream recently.
