Last week, the Wall Street Journal had a scoop of sorts; the headline read, “President Trump Eyes a New Real-Estate Purchase: Greenland: In conversations with aides, the president has — with varying degrees of seriousness — floated the idea of the U.S. buying the autonomous Danish territory.”
Greenland, of course, is a huge island in the Atlantic, most of it north of the Arctic Circle. As such, even though it boasts 836,000 square miles of territory — more than a quarter the size of the continental U.S. — it counts a population of just 55,000.
In other words, the great landmass is ripe for development, so it’s

Let's not forget that China is interested in Greenland to put a military base there.

The most important reason to buy Greenland is to prevent our enemies from obtaining it. The author should have emphasized that more. Instead he goes on and on with environmental twaddle, wholly accepting the global warming premise and demonstrationg his ignorance by mentioning penguins. That may have been satirical about greenies' lack of knowledge but, given his ignorance about the increasing evidence against manmade carbon dioxide's causing warming, I doubt it. If he were better informed he could have said -- as long as he believes in global waming -- that in an earlier warming period Greenland was able to grow crops and was more widely settled.

Re #2, can see Russia doing the same thing. Right now, doubt a sale to the US will happen. Also wouldn't be surprised if the Democrats would block it. Wonder if Denmark would considering selling Greenland to China or Russia.

Great idea but we are broke. No matter how much strategic moves should be the priority we have spent ourselves into a position where the very presence of our debt burden becomes a threat. If going deeper into debt to purchase Greenland can result in a positive net present value, then go for it. The Danes might have something to say however.

What #2 and #3 said -- also, it would be better than Guantanamo for cooling the heads of rabid Islamic terrorists.

Naysayers always pop up when something new and different is floated. However, the seed has been planted. We may not see it happen anytime soon, but never say never...

We gave Iran 150 Billion in cash in exchange for what? I call that pure stupidity and total abuse of taxpayer money. Funny how Obama never got excoriated by that in the press, only By Trump.
Acquiring Greenland has potential and also plants the seed that our President is open to other opportunities.

One thing is certain, if buying Greenland is good for America and will help Trump the left will be against it. That's just a fact of life.

I’m all for it as a hedge against Chinese or Russian encroachment. If global warming is a fact, then let’s wait for Greenland to go back to how the Vikings found it.

What a great idea. I hope it eventually comes about.
FYI, however, the article refers to penguins. No penguins anywhere near Greenland. Never have been. No penguins in the northern hemisphere except one species on the Galapagos Islands. Polar bears and seals, yes.

I say Trump should nix the Greenland plans and decide to invest in art instead. I know of a portrait he could buy of a man in a blue dress, which would add a festive air to the State Dining Room. Or possibly Trump could trade it for 33,000 emails.

Buying other people's territories is an idea out of 19th century colonialism. Has anyone asked the Greenlanders what they think of this?

We need Greenland to position missiles there to defend against and strike if necessary against Russia and China.

Well, shoot. If we could just warm up the planet a bit more, perhaps Greenland wouldn't be covered in glacier ice and it would be worth something. Glaciers aren't worth much, except for eco-tourists to gaze at. Yosemite Valley used to be covered by glaciers, but isn't it much nicer as it is? As far as I'm concerned, if you just want to look at it, take a picture. Nature is here for us to use, not to gaze upon. I'll bet Greenland has all kinds of resources and beautiful valleys under all that ice.
