"The power to tax is the power to destroy." -John Marshall, 4th Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential contender Liz Warren wants to tax us gun owners back to the Stone Age, as a part of her radical gun control agenda, revealed this weekend. If elected, Warren promises to raise taxes on firearms and ammo purchases by 30% and 50%, respectively. That's on top of her plan for federal licensing for gun ownership -- presumably with a federal database of who owns what -- expanded background checks, and a renewed ban on "assault-style" weapons.

Every time a Democrat calls for gun control, someone in the US is inspired to buy one. Obama was responsible for thousands of legitimate sales in his two terms. Warren will never get elected anyway.

This is bigger than it seems and part of how we got ourselves into a swamp. Our founders didn't establish three branches of government with a balance of powers and the legislative process, only to see the tax code used as the real mechanism for defining what we are allowed to do. I have always challenged people when they call for the legalization of something, gambling, weed, ect. with the quick retort, "then tax the hell out of it." Wrong! Taxing cigarettes into oblivion for instance isn't consistent with our constitution and some day allowing the perversion of taxation will bite us in the backside. Social engineering via the tax code is dead wrong. And the net result of her approach, only the criminals via the blackmarket will be armed and the very wealthy. Way to stand for the middle class and little guy there you lying sack of manure.

#2, unfortunately, it wouldn't be an infringement except those who aren't able to afford the higher prices, which would be lower-income people, who then may end up being forced into the black market to make purchases. Remember, it's legal to own a gun in Mexico, but it's EXTREMELY hard to get that permit, yet there is no shortage of guns in Mexico.

That's certainly going to help Trump and the NRA. How about taxing stupidity at 100%? you would be broke in a second. Never mind what the mechanical operating system of a gun is. All guns sold today are pretty much all semi-automatic, pull the trigger and it fires a single round. Militaristic looking plastic stock weapons are not ässault weapons. This is a fake name made up to sensationalize and hype up the issue. Real fully auto military assault weapons were outlawed in the 1930s, so banning assault-style weapons is a fake political diversion from their real goal of shredding the 2nd Amendment and grabbing everyone's legal guns.

We have got to stop predicting a civil war if the communists do this or that. They do all those things all the time with complete impunity, and the only people doing any shooting are their side. Our side does not want a war because we have something to lose. So we sit around and take it. If a war is started, they will do it and our side will merely defend. Or not.

NBC News is reporting that Democratic presidential candidate and former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke is looking to "reset" his campaign as he attempts to revive his political fortunes. (Snip) O'Rourke received desperately needed national attention after the El Paso massacre by calling Trump a "white supremacist" and Trump voters "racists." His frantic efforts to get attention -- much like a two-year-old throwing a tantrum -- included the outrageous statement that Trump was "inciting violence." Al Sharpton might be thinking about entering the race. “I never rule anything out,” said Sharpton, adding that he isn’t currently exploring a run for the nomination. (Snip) I, for one, would welcome Al Sharpton's entrance to the 2020 Democratic primary. Sharpton's has made a career out of race-baiting, which has now become mainstream in the Democratic Party. If Joe Biden can be the frontrunner, despite his inappropriate behavior with women and young girls, Sharpton's controversial past is certainly not

This is why the grand jury declined to indict Wilson for murder or manslaughter, and it was also the conclusion of the Obama administration’s Department of Justice. “Every police officer in America should be offended by Sen. Mass murder is not a gun control problem. In 2003, Kim Dae-han, a middle-aged taxi driver, killed 192 people and left 151 others wounded, by setting a South Korean subway train on fire using paint cans filled with gasoline. In 2016, Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a Muslim terrorist, killed 86 people and wounded 458 others by ramming a truck into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in France. In 2001, Muslim terrorists killed 2,977 people and injured 6,000 more, by using box cutters to hijack airplanes and fly them into buildings. Guns are a tool. There are a whole lot of other devastating ways to kill lots of people. American mass killers often use guns

In trying to measure the effects of guns on society -- not just the Americans -- it pays to be careful about what we are describing. The Washington Post explains that there is no direct relation between the number of firearms in circulation and the number of ordinary gun-related murders. (Snip) Ordinary murder is apparently driven by more than the weapon. An observed reduction in the propensity of Americans to shoot each other offset the greater availability of weapons. The federal assault weapons ban and its subsequent removal without detectable effect showed how weak a factor it was by itself.

Of course, no one ever wants to be in a situation where they have to, but the peace of mind is a gift.
