The White House is reportedly planning an executive order that would give the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) a role in determining what gets censored on big tech platforms.
According to CNN, which obtained a draft copy of the order, the White House will ask the FCC to develop regulations aimed at clarifying the laws determining how social media companies are allowed to police speech on their platforms. The existence of the draft order was first revealed by Politico earlier this week.
The draft executive order is currently titled “Protecting Americans from Online Censorship.”

Why is this any different than the bias the alphabet media has been spewing for decades? Not sure how I feel about it. Google, Facebook, etc. are private companies. Don't we want free market? The real problem is the addled fools who believe everything they see and read. You can't make an Executive Order against that...

Yes they are private companies. But what if there is actual, real life "collusion" amongst these to skew and manipulate information made available to the public. Is that not a conspiracy to deny the right of free speech to certain citizens?

Here we go again. WHERE did CNN get a draft copy? Did someone at the White House Leak it? Better weed them out if if that's the case!

That is true, #2. That is why I am conflicted about these kinds of rulings. Thanks for presenting the other side of the coin.

They are private companies but they are using the public airways. They should not be pursuing a political agenda.

I do not understand why there cannot be competition to Facebook and Google and Twitter. There must be plenty of extremely wealthy people - whose politics are conservative - who could start up companies that could compete with these three Masters of the Universe.
I would guess that the giant technocrat companies contribute heavily to our fine politicians and that is why they get away with so much.

Also, the alphabet networks and their cable counterparts don’t have a monopoly on speech like a platform like Twitter does.

Can I just ask an honest question here? Why would the President go after these Companies for stopping free speech, then turn around and enact Red Flag Laws that would canvas the Social Media to find people the Government could strip of their Constitutional Rights? Wake Up America . It certainly looks like we are being played like so many cheap Fiddles to this old Man.

The issue is whether or not free speech is being violated while using federal or state assets.
Just as one cannot start an airline and decide to start flying planes through the sky without FAA approval, or start a train company and start using train tracks without authorization, the belief is that large social media companies are using assets that do not belong to them without any regulation.
The impetus for all this, I believe, is this experts thoughts on how future elections can be mismanaged:

It was my understanding that any law or regulation that specifically violated the constitution made the whole thing invalid and illegal. That regulation quoted specifically states the companies can ignore constitutional protections.
It is therefore COMPLETELY invalid and illegal. Technically, the media giants have no right to censor ANYTHING based on the regulations as they are currently existing.

The problem here is that there arent realistic alternatives to any of these platforms and they are used by just about everybody. All of these platforms publicly declare that they are unbiased, but behind the scenes are anything but. Yes, they are private companies engaged in deceptive practices and fraudulent advertising.
If they enacted a set of rules and applied them across the board, I wouldnt have a problem with it. But the truth is that they are supressing speech that they dont agree with while claiming something else.

Are there any anti-trust violations committed by the social media?

"According to CNN"
Among the least credible news sources in the media and possibly one of the top three fakenews leaders, but for this we'll forget about that. Next we'll start citing polls to bolster our confidence in 2020... oh, wait, we've been doing that for over a year. Yeesh.

This should have been taken are of already- way back when Rinos under Ryan controlled the House. Be that as it may, late is better than never, except when it is too late to stop in this new election cycle. Trump is way behind the curve on this one. I wish him luck. He truly is a miracle worker and he'll need a miracle for this one.

Imagine if your telephone carrier actively filtered the content of your conversations and blocked any conservative statements. Social media is filtering out conservative thoughs and, regretably, requires government oversight to ensure all viewpoints are allowed in the public forum.

Both sides make a good argument but if the FCC regulates anything won't they have to monitor that carrier to some degree?
Perhaps you say something in private that the FCC says 'you've hit a Red Flag'?
I'm conflicted.
