A convicted child sex abuser was drowned in the toilet by a fellow prisoner as the result of a 'revenge killing', said police. David Oseas Ramirez, 56, who had been serving a life sentence for molesting an 11-year-old girl in 2013, was found dead in his prison cell at Duval County Jail in Jacksonville, Florida, on Tuesday morning. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced in a statement on social media that a fight broke out between Ramirez and convicted murderer Paul Dixon, 43, who was later arrested over the incident.

From what I've read, child molesters and child killers are at the bottom of the pecking order in prisons. Many of them end up in solitary for their own protection.

A fallen veteran received an emotional homecoming as travelers at a Texas airport gave an impromptu welcome honoring the return of his remains. Col. Roy Knight’s body was recently recovered and identified after being shot down over Vietnam in 1967. He was being returned home to Dallas at the same airport where he waved goodbye to his five-year-old son 52 years ago when he was deployed. [ video] The homecoming was reported by Jackson Proskow, Washington bureau chief for Canada’s Global News, who chronicled the moment in a now-viral Twitter thread that he shared while traveling home to Washington, D.C.

Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX) told President Donald Trump he was not “welcome” to visit El Paso, TX, following the shooting by someone who reportedly posted a manifesto online railing against immigrants. Escobar said it is “probably unfair” to say the Trump rally held in El Paso in February is the cause of the attack, but said the president needs to “do a little self-reflection” on his rhetoric and actions at his rallies. “It is shocking to me that [Trump] is so utterly self-aware,” Escobar lamented. “And this is why from my perspective, he is not welcome here. He should not come here while we are in mourning.”

On behalf of our millions of members, we salute the courage of the first responders and others offering their services during this time.” Arulanandam added: “The NRA is committed to the safe and lawful use of firearms by those exercising their Second Amendment freedoms.

Several media outlets are reporting that the gunman who killed 20 people and wounded 26 at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas claimed in a manifesto that his white supremacist views had nothing to do with President Donald Trump. The Washington Post reported Sunday: “Authorities believe … [the shooter] wrote the document, though they are still gathering evidence.” It also noted that the author “stresses that he has maintained his white supremacist ideology for many years, predating President Trump and his 2016 campaign, which he says did not influence his reasons for carrying out the attack.”

Australia is in talks with the United States to buy millions of barrels of oil to boost dangerously low levels of fuel held on domestic soil. The Morrison government is negotiating with the Trump administration to access the oil from America's own fuel reserve, as Australia hunts for a way to address dwindling local supply. Australia has enough petrol and crude oil to last 28 days, well below the 90 days mandated by an international agreement.

While Betts did not have a history of violent crime, new details have emerged indicating that there were early warnings signs of a troubled mind. Here are a few things I know firsthand about being in jail. First and foremost, you have virtually no control over your life and surroundings. You can’t get so much as an aspirin without authorization. In most jails, you can’t wear a belt, or shoelaces, or keep a razor in your cell. You have no privacy, no sense of dignity, and no rights. And in a well-run jail, high-profile prisoners have virtually no chance of killing themselves. So the alleged suicide of Jeffrey Epstein, the 66-year-old financier with powerful American and foreign friends who was about to stand trial for allegedly sexually abusing dozens of girls, many of them underage,
