The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office on Thursday subpoenaed the Trump Organization over hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 presidential elections.
Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr.’s office picked up the probe just weeks after federal prosecutors announced they’d completed their investigation into the payments, made by former-Trump fixer Michael Cohen.
“This is a political hit job,” Marc Mukasey, a lawyer for the organization, told The Post in an email.
“Its just harassment of the President, his family, and his business, using subpoenas and leaks as weapons. We will respond as appropriate.”

"Hush money payments" makes it sound illicit. In fact, NDAs are frequently exchanged for monetary payments. News flash, people sign NDAs because they want something that is of value to them in exchange, money, a job, or access to a person or organization. A lot of lawyers will be put out of business if this is illegal.

Those are the very types who likely will spend every day on the nursing home hallway bench, yelling the same invectives for hours.

Everything I read indicated that Donald Trump did not sign those papers. Was Michael Cohen paid to put something out there that would look incriminating for Donald Trump? After all, Stormy Daniels has to pay Donald Trump's lawyer fees. I am certain of one thing. This was all brought about to embarrass the President.

Democrats are such hypocrites. The democrats in congress should be investigated over the hush money (taxpayer funded!) they paid to cover up their sexual dalliances! I want a refund!

President Trump surely thought that his “be nice to James Comey policy” announced yesterday would please the SDNY prosecutors, which includes Maurene Comey, Comey’s vulgar hat wearing daughter who is an assistant U.S. Attorney in that office. But Trump’s turn the other cheek policy for James Comey won’t stop Comey’s daughter from pursuing the President, despite the conflict of interest.
The irony is that while Trump and his associates have been subject to incredible legal harassment by Democrats in the DoJ, Trump’s appeasement policy for Obama regime law breakers hasn’t worked. Time to equally enforce our laws rather than waive them for Democrat elites.

Referencing a previous post, it’s a scandal there is a fund to pay off sexual abusers who are elected officials. I guarantee they are all dems.

Grudge suit from a good little lefty lawyer. He must have all other criminal activity under control. Not a quality person.

We need to start a petition for President Trump to run for a third term. The GDrats have certainly tried their best to derail him on his first term. Can you imagine what could have been achieved if he hadn't been sidetracked by all this russia, russia, russia nonsense and now the obstruction of justice charges? Since he's been found not guilty of anything, how could he be guilty of obstructing anything?

Another day, another headline of bad behavior...drip...drip...drip...all through the summer months. Don't want to waste the "new material" until people pay attention. This is just a reminder...

Keeping hope alive while grasping at straws only to get a hand full of empty air. But this is a manufactured pseudo-news event designed to get continued 24 hr a day coverage and sensationalized on CNN perpetuating the lie that these hush-money payments were illegal illicit and worthy of impeachment. Perhaps a simple explanation of the legality and routine use of Non-Dosclosure Agreements and once signed by both parties become a legal document in court with the payment and receipt of the check the final step in closing the process. But why tell the truth? Perpetuate the lie and feel good about yourselves.

I suspect that a judge will quash that subpoena. Paying hush money is not a crime, unless there was tax evasion, or use of taxpayer money. Neither case is applicable here. This is just another political harassment that will pass. If anything, they could find that Stormy didn't pay taxes on the money.
I agree with #1. Hush money is a pejorative term for a NDA. Most of us in business have signed such agreements, to keep any (legal) dirty laundry from competitors.

Use a different court to get around double jeopardy restrictions. If they can do it to Trump, they can do it to anyone. This is tyranny pure and simple. How do you remove these people from office? They are abusing their positions of power.

The Deep State federal prosecutors twisted a completely legal NDA into a federal crime, ludicrously arguing that the money spent was a campaign finance law violation. They had Atty. Cohen dead to rights on a variety of serious crimes and dangled a plea bargain conditioned on him pleading guilty to the spurious campaign law charge.
What New York law are these state prosecutors saying the NDA violated?

In raw terms it is not illegal for a person using their own money to payoff a shakedown artist. But in contrast it is illegal for a shakedown artist to extort money from an individual or entity. Since extorting over $100,000 from an individual would be a felony, it looks like the NY authorities are targeting the wrong person.
In this case it looks like Cohen and the other party’s lawyers are who actually reached that monitory deal. Cohen is, or was a lawyer, who had the ethical and legal duty to tell his client Donald Trump, a non-lawyer, if such a deal would be illegal, and not to arrange such a deal himself if it was illegal. In the past a telephone conversation between Cohen and Trump was made public in which it did not appear that Trump knew much about the particulars of the deal, including the amount of money involved, and instructed Cohen to make sure that there was financial documentation evidencing the deal, Cohen agreed. You would not think that Trump would want a record of the deal kept in the Trump Organization records if he thought the deal was illegal, after all keeping arrangements like that legal is whyTrump would hire a lawyer in the first place. By all accounts Cohen then went ahead with the deal. So it looks like Cohen himself would have more future legal exposure than his client from what we know.
Obviously this is another attempt by the NY Democrats to embarrass and harass President Trump.
