A nine-year-old girl visiting Yellowstone National Park has been struck and thrown into the air by a charging bison. The girl, from Odessa, Florida, was in a group of roughly 50 people who were standing near the bison for about 20 minutes in the Old Faithful Geyser area on Monday before it charged, Yellowstone officials said in a written statement. Wild video shows the large beast grazing before it begins pacing toward the girl and two adults.
Looks like the parents were able to outrun the Bison... Stupid prizes for all involved!

That's OK, honey- When we get back to Florida, we'll take you to the Disney World hotel ponds for a nice swim

Well there goes their shot at parents of the year, and they were so close. Bison aren't simply cows with big heads. Every time I ponder these magnificent beasts I can't help but be utterly amazed that people took them down with sharp rocks launched on wooden sticks.

What part of wild animal didn’t they understand? She’s going to some wild dreams from this.

Poor kid. The parents run away leaving her to fend for herself, while others pause to take pictures. Imagine if the 2,000 pound beast had stepped on her.

Irresponsible people letting their foolish kids go into harm's way.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
This is not a petting zoo, people. Use your head for something other than a hat rack.

I understand people wanting to get up close and personal with "Nature," but there are too many stupid people in this world who should stay home instead and watch documentaries on our national parks and forests rather than visit in person. And nine times out of ten, the animal suffers because of stupid people.

From the Yellowstone Officials' written statement, "According to witnesses, a group of approximately 50 people were within 5-10 feet of the bison for at least 20 minutes before eventually causing the bison to charge the group."
The rules state: "Stay 25 yards (23 m) away from all large animals - bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes and at least 100 yards (91 m) away from bears and wolves. If need be, turn around and go the other way to avoid interacting with a wild animal in close proximity."
That little girl is damned lucky she wasn't killed and/or stomped. Shame on her parents!

The theory" All you need to be able to do is outrun the slowest member of the group" has been proven again. At no time were visitors to Yellowstone told that it was a petting zoo.

Maybe, just maybe, the parents learned the truthfulness in the old saying: "You mess with the bull, you get the horns."
But I seriously doubt it!

With all the social media, one would think that people would have seen others being charged by bison in Yellowstone, and the warnings rangers give to tourists. Apparently not. All those signs posted in the park about staying away from park animals are there for someone else to read. And they call the animals dumb.

I live near a bison area in Land Between the Lakes. Those animals are huge and they are very, very fast. You can't believe how fast and agile such a big animal is. They are not sweet and gentle at all. I have a healthy respect for them and would never dream of getting close to one. I'm content to look at a distance.

If the parents are loony-leftists their lawyer has already been in contact with the Bison's attorney, advising of the charges they plan to file... Of course, since Bison don't have much money, they'll add the entire Federal Government to the list of Plaintiffs thereby adding some "deeper pockets" to this blatant "act of unfairness" visited upon this little girl who was singled-out by Mr. Bison for "size-shaming" and discriminated against for being a small girl.

Btw #3, the Indians were also really good at steering hordes of Bison/Buffalo into a stampeding herd, running them over a cliff, killing them in huge numbers to get a few pounds of meat and skins to get them by for the winter.

There should be ZERO lawsuits allowed here unless it's a prosecution of these foolish adults. Idiots like this are going to ruin EVERYTHING for the rest of us who love nature and can follow simple rules.

Yellowstone is one of our favorite National Parks and we'll be visiting in August. After vacations there in 2012 and 2014, the only negative, stressful experiences we had were encounters with ''Tourons'' (Tourist-Morons). We saw behavior from which we would quickly walk or drive away, not wanting to witness possible carnage and tragedy. The advent of social media and selfies has made people take insane risks and has sometimes cost them their lives, sadly.

I feel bad for the little girl. The greater Tampa area and Yellowstone are worlds apart and that little girl was not fully aware of the dangers posed by such iconic American animals. I pray the outcome for her is no more serious than having a good show-and-tell story for school.

The little girl (and presumably her parents) were way too close to the bison.
