When asked if he could have beaten Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election, former vice president Joe Biden told the New York Times, "I don't know.""Everybody says that," he continued. "But look, I don't know. You've got to be in the game. I thought Hillary would have made a good president." Biden considered running in 2016, but ultimately decided not to get into the race as his son Beau was dying of cancer at the time. According to close friends, Biden would have run in 2016 if Beau had not died.

He didnt have the baggage then that Hillary has. He has, however aquired new baggage since then.
Had he run, the campaigns would have been entirely different.
He would have had a better chance in 2016 than he will in 2020.

Gropey Joe Biden is old, tired, and stupid, but if you overlook all that he's got a darn good chance.

Don't think Biden ever got 1% of the primary vote. The only thing he has going for him is he was Obama's VP which is really faint praise. He was picked so he wouldn't be noticeable. If any of the other contenders catch on, Biden is toast.

Do you really think Biden's dying son kept him from running? And, he being a member of the party of death? Psssstttttt... get outta here!

Joe the Groper gets half a clue. I'm still waiting for him to figure out he can't beat Trump either.

Guess you weren't doing enough pushups back then Joe.
I agree. Hillary was despised so even though Trump was a bit of a unproven hope, the choice was easy.
Now, while I would never have voted for a dem, there are a lot of people that were on the edge who would have considered Joe instead of Hillary. On the other hand the Trump Russian collusion thing was a Hillary dirty trick so Joe might have struggled without it helping him out. However, I am pretty sure Joe would never have gotten past Hillary to begin with. It was her turn, after all.

Beau Biden died in My of 2015. Old Jo is pretty quick in the grieving process - he didn't miss any Senate duties after wife #1 (Or perhaps I should call her Draft Deferment #6) had that fatal auto accident, hitting a truck.
The truth is that Barack didn't want Old Jo to run in 2016, and apparently doesn't want him to run in 2020.
I am reminded of President Eisenhower's answer when a reporter asked him, in 1960, if Ike could name one accomplishment of Nixon's, as VP.
Ike replied, 'give me a week and I'll think of something.'
(That was especially nasty, given the fact that Nixon had to run a shadow presidency because Ike was often incapacitated, suffering heart attacks and strokes while president. And there was no constitutional amendment, at the time, giving that authority to the VP during a president's inability to perform his functions.)

That's not the most self-serving thing I've ever heard but it's up there. Get real, Biden! You couldn't beat an egg!

I believe that if Biden had run in 2016, he would have won.
My dad is a lifelong democrat. He has always voted democrat. He did not vote for a presidential candidate in 2016. He refused to vote for Hillary and wouldn’t vote for a republican. I think there was enough people like him that would have voted for Biden. Biden would have been more palatable for the voters on the edge than Hillary. He would have won.
Joe’s greatest accomplishment ??? He helped elect Donald Trump.
