The United States 2016 election, when President Donald Trump was voted into office, may have been tied to a rise in premature births among Latina women across the US, according to a new study. In the nine months beginning with November 2016, about 3.2% to 3.6% more preterm births to Latina women occurred above the levels of preterm births that would have been expected had the election not occurred, suggests the study, published in the medical journal JAMA Network Open on Friday.

Another reporter with too much time on her hands. or more likely a case of practicing job security. Gotta keep the editor happy! This is almost as bad as the Times story, also written by a woman, that the Russians really won the Space Race because they had more diversity in their program than we did. But it didn't stop us from getting to the moon first. But I digress. If Latina women were really stressed out by Trump winning, then they must be illegals. Send them back to where they came!

More anti-science BS.
The article starts out by saying they only noticed a correlation and that it does not imply causation, then they spend the rest of the article talking about causation, totally without evidence. And from what I read in the CNN article, there is no mention of the rates for white, black and Asian women (and transgender men :)) for the same time period by comparison.
This is a case of having a conclusion, then trying to find data to support it. Scientists do the same thing, but they also try to show that the phenomenon doesn't apply to other groups. They say "more study is needed", but they were looking at the records for all groups at the time and only picked out the Hispanic ones; they ignored the other groups. How did it get published?

#6 brings up a point I heard not too long ago. All great advances by mankind were brought about by engineering, NOT science.

These 'writers' are the descendents of the ones several centuries ago who wrote about mice spontaneously generating within rags wrapped around corn or wheat kernels and left in dark corners.

I couldn’t find any mention of the possibility of induced labor in this scholarly (gulp) article. If she were going through pregnancy in order to pop an anchor baby, that chica might have had someone around to help her make sure the anchor was cast before she was cast adrift again...

CNN, you guys keep mistaking the American public for people who care about problems illegal immigrants face while in the U.S. illegally. How about a report about how many more babies have been born to US citizens since Trump was elected and parents can afford them.

No matter WHAT happens, no matter how insane and far fetched, leave it to CNN to blame it on Trump.
There are really great reasons why nobody watches their trash anymore.

Let me tell you what else it Trump's fault. My investments have increased. My quality of living has inched up. My mortgage payment has inched down and my health care has gotten better. I need to shake that man's hand! How dare he keep me from being a victim or a statistic! Oh I almost forgot the darn gasoline prices! They have gone down also, in spite of all the crapola in the middle east. Now I don't even have THAT excuse.

I used to explain the difference between correlation and causation, by discussing the movie The Jerk.
Steve Martin, working at a gas station, is randomly selected by a nutcase, to be his target.
The nutcase positions himself up a hill, across from the gas station, and begins shooting at Steve Martin. Martin sees that oil cans, stacked up between the pumps, are being hit by bullets.
Martin rushes to remove the oil cans, believing that the oil cans are causing the bullets to fly.
This 'study' could be used by a Statistics professor to demonstrate bad research analysis.
One more example - there is a direct positive relationship between ice cream consumption and rape. But eliminating ice cream would not stop rape.
Ice cream consumption goes up in the summer, women are dressed for the warm weather, and they consume more ice cream. The combination of variables, including being out in public, buying ice cream, cause the increase in rape.
Think about Steve Martin and the oil cans.

#11 Exactly. The only remedy would be to return all of them back to the other side of the border.
In this area, almost all of these women are walking around with several small children and pregnant. Imagine the luxury of American hospitals.
