Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was greeted at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport by more than a hundred supporters -- constituents, organizers and well-wishers, carrying homemade "stand with Ilhan" signs welcoming her back to Minneapolis after a week of racist attacks from President Donald Trump, who told four Democratic congresswomen of color to "go back " to where they came from, and supporters at a campaign rally, who chanted "send her back" on Wednesday night. (Snip) Omar was defiant, criticizing Trump’s "fascist" policies, and promised to continue standing up for her beliefs, pointing to her Medicare-for-All town hall this evening.

It’s a mystery that’s lasted for 50 years and lingers still: What happened on the summer night in 1969 when a car driven by Sen. Ted Kennedy plunged off the Dike Bridge into the waters off of Martha’s Vineyard, killing his 28-year-old passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne? On July 18, 1969, Kopechne, who had worked on Sen. Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 presidential bid, attended a reunion party with five of her fellow campaign workers, known as the “Boiler Room girls,” so named for their windowless office. The party, held at a rental cottage on the island of Chappaquiddick in Massachusetts

Republican strategist Karl Rove is lamenting the political polarization in Washington, saying he worries that both parties are "broken."
“I think a lot of Republicans sink themselves for liking what he’s doing, but not how he is doing it," Rove said of the party's relationship with President Trump. "The parties are so broken. If the leader of the party is attacked, everyone rallies around."

The Jeffrey Epstein case is an asteroid poised to strike the elite world in which he moved. No one can yet say precisely how large it is. But as the number of women who’ve accused the financier (at least, that’s what he claimed to be) of sexual assault grows to grotesque levels—there are said to be more than 50 women who are potential victims—a wave of panic is rippling through Manhattan, DC, and Palm Beach, as Epstein’s former friends and associates rush to distance themselves, while gossiping about who might be ensnared. Donald Trump’s labor secretary, Alexander Acosta, architect of the original 2007 non-prosecution agreement that let Epstein off

The mood of left-wing Democrats might be neatly summarized by the media coverage of last weekend’s Netroots Nation conference. The progressive left seems poised to consign former President Barack Obama to the dustbin of history. Moreover, supposedly woke agitators do not seem to care how their exercise might affect black voters who comprise a crucial part of their 2020 electoral strategy.
According to Vox, “Progressive activists know their enemy in the 2020 Democratic primary: Joe Biden.” As Vox notes, “Some activists at Netroots conceded they would support Biden in a general election if they had no other choice.”

Rep. Elijah Cummings, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, shouted down acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan over conditions in migrant camps during a hearing on Thursday."We’re doing our level best in a challenging —," McAleenan said before being cut off by Cummings, who went on a two minute rant about border conditions. "What does that mean? What does that mean when a child is sitting in their own feces, can’t take a shower? Come on, man," Cummings said to McAleenan. "None of us would have our children in that position. They are human beings."

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has ordered tall buildings to lay off the air conditioning in the face of an oncoming heatwave, in an attempt to preserve electricity in the city. In an emergency order issued on Thursday, de Blasio directed the owners of office buildings 100 feet or taller to keep the AC to 78F from Friday morning to Sunday evening. More than 200 million people in the eastern and central US are bracing for a dangerously warm weekend, with temperatures soaring as high as 110F.

At a Tuesday night city council meeting, Berkeley became the first city in America to ban the use of natural gas piping in new construction. But that was not the only utility-related issue they saw fit to attend to. No, there was another matter on deck: Eliminating the gendered connotations of words like "manhole" in the city municipal code. (Snip) "Manpower" will be referred to as "human effort," and "man-made" objects will be described with terms like "human-made," "artificial," "manufactured," "machine made" or "synthetic." Gendered professional terms like "fireman," "firewoman" and "craftsman" will be swapped out for gender-neutral substitutes like "firefighter"

“Yes, yes! Speak truth to power!” Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) enthusiastically agreed when left-wing activist David Hogg declared that rich people are “the problem” in America, but are using “racism and xenophobia to convince poor people” that they’re not. On Tuesday, Hogg tweeted his accusation about the rich: “For hundreds of years rich people have used racism and xenophobia to convince poor people that rich people are not the problem.”Later that evening, Rep. Tlaib chimed in on Twitter, exclaiming her agreement and posting a bullhorn emoji suggesting

Fired FBI Director James Comey came for Trump supporters on Thursday and said it’s time to send Trump’s “mob back to their dark corner.” Comey’s tweet Thursday attacking Trump supporters is in response to chants of “send her back” heard at Trump’s North Carolina rally Wednesday evening after the president brought up Dem Rep. Ilhan Omar. Ilhan Omar, a Somali-born Democrat Congresswoman in Minnesota married her own brother to defraud US immigration, filed fraudulent tax returns and perjured herself many times according to documents and reports. Representative Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) will introduce a resolution this week declaring support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to elevate the Palestinian negotiating position vis-a-vis Israel through an international pressure campaign.
“We are introducing a resolution . . . to really speak about the American values that support and believe in our ability to exercise our first amendment rights in regard to boycotting,” Omar told Al-Monitor. “And it is an opportunity for us to explain why it is we support a nonviolent movement, which is the BDS movement.”
The announcement comes on the same day that the House Foreign Affairs Committee,
