Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke said he was recently given documents showing that both he and his wife are descendants of people who owned slaves. In a post Sunday night for the website Medium, the former Texas congressman wrote that the documents showed that one of his paternal great-great-great grandfathers owned two women, named Rose and Eliza, in the 1850s. He said records also showed that one ancestor of his wife, Amy, owned slaves while another was part of the Confederate Army.(Staff) 'For example, there is 10 times the wealth in white America than there is in black America.

By admitting his white guilt, Beto might think he is cooler and more likable. I think it makes him look more desperate and willing to say whatever he needs to say to capture any votes. Beto is losing a lot more than votes by being a squishy white liberal willing to be a chameleon and change into whatever he needs to in order to get a vote. I am tired of people having to apologize for being white and not feeling guilty about it.

I think this would be a great time to revive the scapegoat as originally practiced in Judaism - all of the whites' sins are placed on Beto who is then sent out into the wilderness. In return all other whites are know forgiven all their past sins, blacks and whites can come together based on a clean slate, reparations are no longer required and we would be rid of the silliest white dude God ever placed on planet Earth. Heck, I'm pretty sure Beto would volunteer for this duty.

I am not responsible for anything my dead ancestors did or did not do 150 plus years ago. Find me a slave and I will do something about his situation. Find me a slave owner and I will see that he gives reparations to the offended. Just shut up about this BS stupid nonsense. Slavery has been practiced since the beginning of time. Blacks whites, American Indians, every culture, everybody, everywhere has slavery in their past. Leave it in the past.

Well he better start writing checks to their descendants from his own, personal bank account. I owe nobody nothing since my family had no slaves nor were they in this country till the beginning of the 1900's, they came legally.

Apparently I owe #9. At any rate Bob, you pay for your family your way. My family paid up in full January 1863, trust me it wasn't pretty. But if any of Cromwells people are around I'll gladly accept a beer for sending my Great to the x Grandfather into slavery.

The insanity just gets worse. Quit while you're ahead, well at least while you aren't dead last in the field.
One thing we know is there Beto is wealth is a by-product of ambition, drive, and a strong work ethic.
In this country, we all have equal opportunity to pursue those things. There can never be an equal outcome. If anything since your family was a slave owner, then it's only fair that you look up the families of the slaves you owned and pay them whatever due reparations you feel are right. You owe the financial amends, not the US taxpayers.

Why the difference between blacks and whites on asset accumulation?
My father came to the United States at age 3 from Poland. He had an 8th grade education, then went to work, at age 14, as a blacksmith.
He married my mother, age 16, when he was 20. By then, he was the laborer in a factory.
He worked three jobs during the depression, and on the side, ran numbers. and in 1935, the purchased a house for 3000 dollars, cash. (My mother worked as a waitress, by the way.)
During my early lifetime, I had few toys, no books, and no electricity or running water. My family, like others, spent carefully, believing the depression was still happening.
White families are less likely to have children who own 100 pairs of sneakers, 'tenners' as they are called in the ghetto, nor do white families see the need to purchase 50 pairs of running suits. Whites are less likely to go clubbin' all night, sleep all day, or have a 75% illegitimacy rate. (the best predictor of poverty is unmarried motherhood.)
Citing a history of slavery as the reason for asset deficits between blacks and whites is bunk.
Behavior explains the deficit now - bad choices, and the unwillingness to defer gratification.
And as for the disparity in incarceration rates, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Then YOU and YOUR WIFE owe reparations and should pay them! My ancestors didn't have slaves and so I don't owe any.
Got that, sonny?

Just a crazy thought, but in addition to trying to get $$ out of us and pandering to the blacks, do you think the hidden goal might also be to get everyone's DNA on file for future use in some nefarious scheme?
Naaaaaahhhh! I'm sure I'm just being paranoid here! They'd never do such a thing (cough . . . cough)!

With the suction being applied to black rear-ends I'm amazed any of these yahoos can talk. I'm 99.9% sure my dad's side had slaves. Doesn't cause me a single iota (anything smaller?) of guilt. If the fake Hispanic wants to donate, have at it and maybe he can get rid of his white-privilege, self-hating, racial-pandering guilt.

Boy oh boy, now I am really torn. My paternal grandmother is the descendant of slave owners while my paternal grandfather's grandfather was a fierce abolitionist. My ancestors fought on both sides during the Civil War. I am so conflicted! As for Beto, he's just a yammering fool whose 15 minutes are up.

I've been researching my various family lines for more than 20 years and yes, since almost all of my forebears quickly ended up in the South, I had slaveowners in the bunch. If any person can prove to me that he or she is descended from one of my family's slaves, we'll discuss why and how I owe that person money. Until then, I don't much care what Robert Francis is groveling about.

Seeing as most white people in the U.S. are descendents of immigrants who came to this country after the Civil War was ended, a majority of citizens don't even have a dog in this fight. And Beto, nobody likes or respects a kiss-ass. Not even the one whose butt is being smooched.

Having totally lost whatever buzz his name had briefly enjoyed early in the campaign, O'Rourke is making a desperate effort to cultivate a new image as the candidate most personally committed to transforming America to a post-racist reality, by being seen as the one who is doing that for his racist ancestors. If I thought it had a chance of succeeding I'd be disgusted.

Funny my understanding was that we do not make people pay for the sins of their fathers. Now you are telling me that we should pay for the sins of someone else's great great grandfather who was here while my ancestors were being put under the yoke in Poland by both the Germans and then the Russians? I think not; you and your wife may pay whomever, whatever, whenever you choose. Give it all up if you really want to pay for your "sins". But as for me and mine I live in a free nation where people are judged by their own characters and actions not those of their relatives let alone those people who lived 150 yrs ago.

Beto please punch yourself in the face until you are really sorry for the bad things your ancestors did, but leave everyone out of it. Many were in on the solution and many others were not here at all, and in any case guilt does not pass down genetically, but if you are so sure you are wretched and rotten, can I say, you are in the wrong AGAIN by trying to get ordinary people, usually way poorer than you, to pay for your therapy and moral self-glorification. Go to the mirror, aim carefully, and Zowie.

Well, Beto-the-faux-Mexican, my family didn't come to this great nation until the beginning of the 20th century. We didn't own slaves, because it was already illegal when they got here. That, and my ancestors probably knew it wasn't very moral.
So you definitely need to pay out lots of reparations. But we are exempt. Works for me!!!
