You’ve probably heard a lot about President Trump backing down on trying to get a citizenship question on the census questionnaire next year. Perhaps you too were surprised that this president who takes on even meaningless slights or disagreements on Twitter would give up so easily. He didn’t. The rest of the day’s story is somewhat different: Trump says he’s devised another path to the same information, which isn’t certain to be tied up for months with

I think the good outcome for Republicans would be if illegals are too scared to fill out the census. The argument over the citizenship question being on the census may achieve this end. If the government had the will to find and deport illegals it would not need self-reporting on their part to achieve this. It might be to the advantage of Republicans to encourage this fear on the part of illegals.

Not having the question on the census will inflate the population number used for apportioning Congressional districts in states with high illegal populations thus increasing their power. Getting the actual count for illegals might help him get increased funding for CBE and DHS to enforce our laws but it will not solve the original problem of miscounting legal citizens of the country with the right to vote. Only if Trump manages to require some form of voter id based on citizenship can the illegal dilution of the legitimate vote be prevented.

Andrew. President Trump does not give up. He may fade back a bit, but only to retrench and return from a different angle.
Also, Andrew, if you really want more than a bunch of #NeverTrumper readers, give up the digs, innuendo, gratuitous advice. President Trump has withstood assaults that guys like you will never ever encounter. He fights back. His prerogative. Want readers? Knock off your petty criticisms and pay attention to the big picture.

It would be very welcoming if the word 'foreigner' was used instead of the popular euphemisms "non-citizen (i.e. "foreigner", undocumented immigrant (they are not immigrants because immigrants need to go through the immigration process). The left appropriates language to create euphemisms for their underhanded dealings. Why not fight back by insisting on a proper use of language. We should never accept their vocabulary. We need to translate it to the underlying references they are using. For example, "social justice" is a euphemism for transferring money from the producers to the non-producers. So if someone says to you they are a SJW then you should respond, "so you are in favour of abusing innocent hard-working people by confiscating money from them to create a gift to parasites".

The census figures would not give an accurate count of the number of US citizens, and aliens both legal immigrants and illegal aliens who are in the USA, as millions of illegal aliens would make false claims to US citizenship on the census form, as they do daily as they go about their business, and did on a government form signed by them in conjunction to getting hired to a US job and when they fraudulently apply for government social welfare benefits.
President Trump yesterday made a tactical withdrawal yesterday after he figured out that activist liberal federal judges would have kept court cases filed by leftist and liberal activist groups tied up in court indefinitely that would have kept the citizenship question off the census anyway, and might have even interfered with a timely start to the census with the Democrats then simply blaming Trump.
By doing that the Democrats and their activist liberal judges handed Trump a huge strategic political issue for Trump to exploit during the 2020 election, as very few legitimate US citizens have any problem verifying on the census that they are US citizens, unless they are leftist and liberal Democrat activists or politicians who are trying to hide the true number of illegal aliens now in the USA from the American public. That very high percentage of US citizens who have no problem with the citizenship question being on the census are also the same people who will vote in the 2020 election!

The problem with Trump caving--and make no mistake, this was a major cave--is that he allows the other branches to diminish the power of the executive branch. The president has every right to place the "Citizen" question on the Census (if a president can take it off, certainly a president can put it back, where it had been for years). Trump abandoning the fight is demoralizing.
