San Francisco: wealthy opponents
of new shelter claim homeless
are bad for environment

Original Article

The wealthy San Francisco residents who launched a crowdfunding campaign to block construction of a new homeless shelter in their waterfront neighborhood are employing a new tactic: arguing that homeless people are bad for the environment. In a lawsuit filed against the city of San Francisco and the California State Lands Commission, the residents called for the project to undergo an environmental review before breaking ground. “This project will have a significant effect on the environment due to these unusual circumstances, including by attracting additional homeless persons, open drug and alcohol use, crime, daily emergency calls, public urination and defecation, and other nuisances,”

Comments:

Brilliant ploy. As far as leftists go, however, quality of life for normal humans matters not one jot.

Umm. I would suggest that if you want to change things in San Francisco you should stop supporting you elected officials and get new ones.

The homeless are going to remain homeless no matter where they are so I don't see how a shelter will have any more adverse impact on the environment than a homeless camp or a poor guy in a cardboard box on the street. Makes no sense, but of course it's Kalifornia.

Listening to KSFO yesterday, hosts Brian Sussman and Katie Green took calls from ex-addicts in SF who said that the gov't of CA encourages and promotes homelessness and drug-addiction, that they make it more than easy to remain drug addicts and homeless. What is the Democrats' end game here, because they ALWAYS have an end game that in some way harms conservatives, Christians and Republicans. Why are CA and OR promoting homelessness, drug-addiction, lawlessness and victimhood?

SF can thank all the democrats for this. Nut cases roaming everywhere and urinating and defecating of the streets. It's been more than 20 years ago since I have been to SF. It loks best from across the Golden State Bridge. Downtown was filthy. Even the Costco near downtown was dinghy. Tony Bennett must have been losing his mine when he left his heart in SF.

It's always fun to see the elites get their panties in a bunch when they might actually have to live with the threat of nastiness like the rest of the little people. Free health care, free this, free that, tent cities, open bathrooms it's all okay as long as it is not around me or my neighborhood.

It’s easy to commiserate with people who don’t want bums housed en masse in their neighborhood - even if those people are rich libs. But, those rich people have disproportionately more influence in what goes on than middle class schlubs like me who just want law, order and opportunity. Maybe if self-congratulating San Francisco elites have to live with the consequences of their demands and decisions they’ll do more thinking in the future and less feeling.

Shortages of gas for heating have hit the nation’s most important city: New York. Following moves by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy to nix a pipeline that could deliver vital gas supplies to the city and Long Island, National Grid can no longer offer new gas hookups or additional service for current customers. “If you’re looking to expand your natural gas service in Brooklyn, Queens or Long Island, we will not be able to meet your request,” unless both states reverse their decisions and OK the pipeline, the utility warns. Con Ed may have to turn away customers, too.

Customs spokesman Steve Bansbach said Tuesday that the man declared the 32 pounds of meat on June 26 when his flight arrived from the Ivory Coast. The meat was confiscated and destroyed. Bansbach says the man did not face a fine and continued on his journey because he was forthcoming about what he was bringing into the country. He says customs officials prohibit the entry of African meats to prevent the spread of African swine fever.
