WASHINGTON — In the summer of 2016, Russian intelligence agents secretly planted a fake report claiming that Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was gunned down by a squad of assassins working for Hillary Clinton, giving rise to a notorious conspiracy theory that captivated conservative activists and was later promoted from inside President Trump’s White House, a Yahoo News investigation has found. Russia’s foreign intelligence service, known as the SVR, first circulated a phony “bulletin” — disguised to read as a real intelligence report —about the alleged murder of the former DNC staffer on July 13, 2016, according to the U.S. federal

I couldn’t agree more PP. a great deal of effort has been expended in debunking any suggestion of political motivation for his murder. Maybe because the facts suggest just that.

Why would Isikoff resurrect a dead story except to throw Russkies against the wall to see what sticks?
Some sort of preemptive smoke and mirrors? When Michael Isikoff talks, who listens?

Did Isikoff ever apologize for his outrageously false koran flushing story that killed 15 people?

Being shot in the back is not "alleged murder" unless Rich was really flexible.

Perhaps I have grown cynical but this smells like getting out in front of something real about to break. What's the point? Nothing has materialized from any conspiracy theory right or is it about to? And since when has Assange ever spouted false information? His problem has been spouting truth obtained by questionable means. He'd risk his entire schtick with a fabrication?

Michael Isikoff - the princely purveyor of fake news!
The Rich family has behaved oddly throughout the murder of their son.
When that black former detective talked about the case, the family shouted him down.
I really hate to be a conspiracy guy, but, check their bank account. Was Seth on his way to talk with the FBI? Who can trust the FBI, circa 2016, with Coward Comey in charge???
Remember Dead Ted Kennedy's killing of Mary Jo Kopechne? Her parents went silent, quickly. How much did Dead Ted pay them for their silence???
My head hurts.

More nonsense on the order of Trump-Epstein and Trump rape...keeps the pot simmering through the summer...then the real fun begins, either way.

I wonder if it might have anything to do with the article that follows this on Lucianne.. That Hillary might be behind the new charges against Epstein. Getting ahead of the possible rumors of ties to her, such as we had with the dossier. There is just a TOO perfect storm. This is from the southern district of New York, who was tasked with finishing the Trump Russian collusion thing. The FBI, who we saw was a hotbed of Trump hatred. Again the FBI, who has to get their reputation back. I have felt all along that if *the 99% of the FBI* that is good wanted to, somehow they could have leaked the truth. They had shown themselves quite adept at leaking.
I’m sorry. Hillary has NOT gotten over losing. There are way too many folk saying that Trump has become *Presidential* and the country is doing too well. More and more are saying he will win in 2020. She has no choice but to cheat.

Perhaps it's a bit of tinfoil hat speculation to surmise that Mr. Rich was offed by DNC operatives for a supposed role in the "hacking." I really don't know. But there is something that stinks about the whole thing -- the circumstances of the murder, no motive of robbery, credible theories that the DNC hacking was an inside job (as was other Wikileaks jobs). Mr-to-Ms Manning walked out of his office with a flash drive and turned it over to the guy in the basement of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London; why wouldn't the same m.o. be in order. Some experts speculate that the speed and size of the download point to it being done on site, not a true remote hacking. And it looks like a lot of weird things happened when it came to political intrigue by the Obama Regime in support of Queen Hillary the Wicked that a murder or two wouldn't be out of the question. And the young man's parents seem to be very, very satisfied in the stories they've been told. So was Mary Jo Kopence's folks.

You explain to the parents. "You now have a million dollars in an offshore account. Be happy with that and don't force us to do the same thing to you that we did to your son."
Suddenly, they are VERY cooperative and VERY certain that their son wasn't murdered.
And terrified for the rest of their lives.

This is a joke right? The so called journalist who was used by the DNC and Michael Steele to get the dossier out there in the ether is now telling us what a complete conspiracy the Seth Rich murder is? You can't make this stuff up. Michael, Michael you should be off somewhere writing novels because the truth could hit you in the head and you wouldn't see it. I wonder where you are getting you info now? How is that DNC hot line working for you? Perhaps if you really want to do some reporting you could talk to Assange and find out if Rich was his source. SInce he offered a reward for info leading to an arrest you might find that curious, but no you want to debunk a conspiracy theory with another conspiracy theory. WHat are we to believe? Were you used to spread the lies of the dossier then? Or are you being used to spread the lies of a Seth Rich murder now? What are you saying a government aid gets killed with no robbery on the streets of DC and you reporters tell us we are crazy to be curious about it. Thanks Michael for your in depth analysis.

Just because Russian news agencies were the only ones reporting on it doesn't mean it's not true or newsworthy.

Tremendous amount of time spent debunking various theories about Seth's death. But (apparently) little time spent actually solving the case.
